@otto and anyone else who is interested. I scoured the Internet for live feeds of the nationwide protests tomorrow. I only found one. It’s for Washington DC.

However, here are the other cities and towns where there will be protests in addition to the 50 state capitols. In this case, Google is your friend. 😊

They have something(s) additional to protest about @Lilibet.

Civil rights
Voting
Fairness in housing

The justice department’s civil rights division is shifting its focus away from its longstanding work protecting the rights of marginalized groups and will instead pivot towards Donald Trump’s priorities ... protecting white people from discrimination

The mission statement for the voting section, for example, barely mentions the Voting Rights Act and instead says the section will focus on preventing voter fraud – which is exceedingly rare – and helping states find for noncitizens on their voter rolls (non-citizen voting is also exceedingly rare).

The guidance for the Housing and Civil Enforcement section does not make a single mention of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark 1968 civil rights law that has long been a central part of the department’s work.

As I mentioned earlier, tomorrow is the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution, which makes the protests tomorrow appropriate. Tonight is the anniversary of the famed Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, letting the militia know that “The British are coming.”

I posted some more history on the “Exportation” thread about this event which started at the Old North Church in Boston. Here is a link, which includes some really neat photos from last night. Enjoy.

Just wait, those behind the messages on the church will become a target of Trump and Co.

April 18 (Reuters) - Ford Motor said on Friday it has halted shipments of its SUVs, pick-up trucks and sports cars to China, as it starts to face the heat from retaliatory tariffs that have seen vehicles face taxes as high as 150%.
"We have adjusted exports from the U.S. to China in light of the current tariffs," Ford said in a statement.

The company this week halted shipments of its F-150 Raptors, Mustangs and Michigan-built Bronco SUVs as well as Kentucky-made Lincoln Navigators to China.

( No one in China is concerned.. they have Great Wall, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Geely.... mostly electric ... oh well. )

((edit) Ford sold 2000 to 4000 vehicles in China in 2024. .... now.. that looks to me like a bad year for sales... maybe Ford has pulled the plug for multiple reasons, if they could only sell 4000, as the top figure, they'd be really pushing it to sell a car that is now 125% dearer.. !! )

Good God Almighty, Vance at the Vatican, what could go wrong?? Sure , he's there to tell the Holy Father how to run his parish, how to organise the priests, and whip the Cardinals into shape, and probably a few pointed personal remarks, you're looking fat and frail, Father, what's with the funny hat, and all this kind of stuff. Vance, the paragon of the puerile.

Who's dumb idea was this?

I don't know, Troops. But it sounds as if they were likely to give Vance a polite tongue-lashing.
I wonder if it has something to do with US visuals in buttering up the Italian Prime Minister for a trade deal. They seem pretty unlucky in gaining any significant trade deals, so far.

Vance, a Catholic who has clashed with Pope Francis over US President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, arrived at the Vatican on Saturday for meetings with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's secretary of state, and deputies.

The Pope, Parolin and other Vatican officials have criticised several Trump administration policies, including Trump's plans to deport millions of migrants in the US and his widespread cuts to foreign aid and domestic welfare programs.

Francis has called the Trump administration's immigration crackdown a "disgrace".

The Pope rebutted the theological concept Vance used to defend the crackdown in an unusual open letter to the US Catholic bishops about the Trump administration in February, and called Trump's plan a "major crisis" for the US.

Maybe a photo like this one, minus the Pope. Oh and minus Trump.

Well, we have heard the Australian version of what is happening between the Vatican and Vance. Will be interesting to hear what Vance's version is. Probably totally different. "We had a productive talk". (my words)

If that's the hope, it is a forlorn one. Individual member states within the EU have no power to negotiate trade deals. That is a reserved power of the EU's centralised bureaucracy.

From my country's MSM

" 'For the Chinese,
the US is a new country that fights too much with the sword,
and they have a tactic of responding with the same thing they are attacked with' -
says Magda, a Pole living in Chengdu.

How will the 'war' between these countries affect citizens?
Will the Chinese feel the tariffs?

'The attitude of the Chinese is as follows:
China has existed for five thousand years,
the Chinese are not too worried about the increasing sanctions on a daily basis,
because they have their own domestic brands that provide them with what they need.
Besides,
when it comes to luxury goods,
the European market is much more desirable',
says Magda.

'The Chinese market is dominated by domestic brands.
Even if the prices of American products increased dramatically,
it is not difficult to find substitutes quickly.
Instead of an iPhone,
you can buy Huawei or Xiaomi'.

According to another Pole - Ola,
the Chinese are calm and know that they are in a better position than the Americans.

'Chinese society has vast experience in dealing with crises.
People are used to saving money,
they are able to wait out difficult times and adjust their lifestyle.

For many Chinese,
the priority is not immediate comfort,
but long-term stability and development',
Ola emphasizes.

'If they can no longer import American products because of the prices,
they will start looking for substitutes locally or in other Asian countries.

No one is wringing their hands,
no one is complaining -
they will simply act.

The Chinese mentality
has such an ingrained patience and readiness to make sacrifices in the name of future success.
And this translates into the entire society',
Ola points out.

How does an expert see the situation related to the tariff war between China and the United States?

The professor at the University of Economics in Krakow,
notes that 'further tariff increases by the Americans no longer have any significance'.

'With the constantly developing Chinese economy,
which, despite American tariffs of 140 percent,
is expected to grow by 1.6 percent in 2025 -
further tariff increases no longer have any significance.

The Chinese authorities have been trying for many years to boost the domestic consumer market,
which is the main priority of the Chinese authorities',
he explains."

He wants a cut of the plate collection from St Peters...... money is all to them. Trump probably said, 'don't come back without a planeload of lira. Or else '

Maybe he wants a bagful of Indulgences, and Penitentiary Excuses, .. it is possible that the Whitehouse is selling this kind of stuff , along with the gold shoes, and the 5 mill gold card, and the bitcoins, and oh there was something else. I forget, .. but these kind of pre Martin Luther things could be a hot market, you never know. MAGA"s buy anything.

Maybe the Vatican invited (summoned) Vance for a meeting. The Vatican seems really concerned about what is going on in the US.
And Vance is there with his family for the Easter weekend - no doubt on US taxpayer dollars - having earlier met with the Italian PM.

Vance apparently became Catholic in 2019. The Vatican might want to straighten out Vance's interpretation of Catholicism.

Vance, who became Catholic in 2019, has cited medieval-era Catholic teaching to justify the immigration crackdown.

Well, he hasn't said "It was a productive meeting" yet. That was me saying that, because the Trump administration seems to say that about everything.

I will edit my previous post to clarify.
