I don't think people in other countries hate the American people.

It's Trump and what he and his gang are doing that they don't like.
I know on the west coast we really do support Point Roberts they are more like Canadians then American but the rest I dunno . hatred of the USA is there but not quite hatred of American people . Trump is making it so much worse with his 51st state drama Canada is united in the it's not gunna happen at all we will fight back. One thing I have noticed is people starting to want a better trade with China over USA now. We may not like the Chinese politics but we do like their products. Jmvho

“I really don’t want cars from Canada,” Trump said. “So when I put tariffs on Canada, they’re paying 25 per cent, but that could go up in terms of cars. When we put tariffs on, all we’re doing is we’re saying, `We don’t want your cars, in all due respect.”’

Respect is a word he doesn't know the meaning of.

"In all due respect" is an incorrect phrase. It's "with all due respect"

"US Out, China In.

Xi Announces Birth of China-Africa Community.

1745498430229.webp

Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Kenyan President William Ruto
announced on Thursday
that bilateral ties were being raised to a 'new level'
and pledged to create
a 'comprehensive China-Africa community'.

Xi Jinping said China and Kenya agreed to

'lead the development of China-Africa relations
and the unity and cooperation of the Global South.'

The decision was made
'in the face of the turbulent international situation',
Xi said.

Africa is a key part of Xi Jinping's
Belt and Road Initiative,
which aims to expand China's geopolitical and economic influence by developing global infrastructure.

China's actions in Africa contrast with US President Donald Trump's decision
to close an agency that invests billions mainly in Africa."

I did read about his 100 days rating compared to other Presidents but I didn't expect it on Fox news.

Trump won't like this...

From banning tech to ending sister-city ties, US states have at least 240 anti-China proposals

State lawmakers across the U.S. have introduced at least 240 anti-China proposals this year, aiming to ensure public funds don't buy Chinese technology or even T-shirts, coffee mugs and key chains for tourists. They're also targeting sister-city relationships between American and Chinese communities.

There's so much anger towards the USA now, I never thought I'd see the day where China is a more stable trade partner then the USA. Even if trump stopped the tariffs I can't see us Canadians wanting to deal with them. Trump hasn't stopped the 51st state B's and that just adds more hatred towards the USA. alot have switched their anger from being angry at trump to hating the USA just my opinion
I think that depends on the election. I received a Conservative Party mail-out yesterday. One of the key points states: "Accelerate renegotiation of the Canada-US-Mexico agreement." I'm worried that a Conservative government will continue to view the USA as the best trade partner going forward, which means sacrifices. The Liberal government has already put in place pathways to negotiate new international trade deals that reduce the existing trade dependence on the USA.

"Carney said the relationship Canada has had with the United States for the past 40 years has fundamentally changed because of Trump’s tariffs. Trump’s trade war and threats to make Canada the 51st state have infuriated Canadians and led to a surge in Canadian nationalism that has bolstered Liberal Party poll numbers."

Trump said the same thing about China - that he doesn't need anything from China, and China needs many things from the USA. Today, China is withholding critical devices that the USA needs for military, drones, planes and cars and there's nothing the USA can do about it at this time. Trump was fibbing.

When Trump says he doesn't need anything from Canada, and mentions the North American automotive industry, he means that after the USA establishes local automotive manufacturing and trains automotive engineers, then the USA will not need anything from Canada. That will take years. Trump is fibbing.

Trump so easily omits that Canada supplies hydro electricity to many USA states, and that the USA buys subsidized oil from Canada. Yes, Canada oil prices are reduced/subsidized for the USA. Without Canadian oil, the USA would have to rely on the Middle East and Venezuela for oil. Trump is fibbing again.

Maybe ol' Rupert is turning on him. They actually showed this graphic on Fox News. Ouch.

Frankly, I'm shocked it's as high as 44%.

I'd like to see a poll taken after the tariffs begin and grocery and regular home items, clothing, and shoes start to show significant price increases.

Throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

None of these are going to induce China to sign a 50% tariff agreement. None of this are the least bit of good negotiating tactics or diplomacy. Laughable, really, and I'm sure China interprets them as further signs of chaos and further pathetic leadership from Trump.

He simply just doesn't want to try to understand the goals or methods of others that make a contract a win-win situtation.

Trump is also showing no consistency of ACTION, just somewhat demented repetition of short catch-phrases like "51st state".

So there is no way for any nation, far less the US's most valued and trusted neighbor to the north to have any faith that what is said today will be signed tomorrow, or will not change the next week.

You couldn't run a candy store like this. He certainly can't run a nation or world-wide trade agreements like this.

In my opinion, the veil has been lifted about trust in the US and every other once-favored nation has good cause to see stability and security through alliances with other countries. I agree with Carney that the US relationship with Canada has fundamentally changed for the worse and it unlikely to improve in the next 3 years and 8 months of Trumps term.

It will be even harder for the US to win back the relationship with Canada.

I think Trump has also surrounded himself with ultra-loyal YES men who are not going to contradict him. Peter Navarro as an economic advisor has been a major disaster, as has Musk. Secretary of the Treasury Bessent is the fixer trying to patch up the wall of economic stability Trump keeps tearing apart every night. Secretary of Commerce Lutkin is just a babbling imp of sycophancy and shows no steady leadership insight that other nations might have faith in.

Remember, it was only 2 months ago with pathetic Musk came out on stage with a chain saw. Two months that seem like 2 years ago already and there still is no clarity and no solid basis for US or international business and finance to hold fast to.

"A clear signal to Trump?

Important EU declaration on US gas.

1745514845940.webp

'The European Union
has not forgotten how the United States immediately stepped in with LNG when Europe needed it'
- said the President of the European Commission
at the Energy Summit in London.

Ursula von der Leyen assured that the energy partnership with the US is strategic for Europe.

She stressed that the European Commission
will present a plan on May 6 to completely abandon Russian raw materials.
The Union is to become independent from the hostile power in the field of energy.

'When it comes to gas supplies,
we have not forgotten how the United States immediately stepped in with LNG

(liquefied natural gas - editor's note)
when we needed it during the crisis',
the head of the European Commission said on Thursday,
referring to what happened after the Russian attack on Ukraine in 2022.

Von der Leyen said
she remembered when gas flowed through additional pipelines from Norway
and how
'countries further afield, such as Japan and the Republic of Korea worked closely'
with the EU on global markets to ensure
Europe's energy security."

I doubt it is that high, honestly! I'm sure Fox padded those numbers a bit.

It's not about which cars Trump wants.

The American consumer should be able to make choices that are appropriate for their needs, considering their families, their jobs, their driving patterns, their brand prefernces, and their choices of models.
