He is the father of Bryer Schmegelsky. Very different than being a member of the public.

More than a little callous to suggest he just sit down and shut up for a couple weeks. He’s the father and IMO has a right to see the video. Unfortunately his ex-wife has decided to exclude him, which IMO is probably exactly how the whole divorce went down.

Well keep in mind that there have been criminal harassment proceedings against AS as recently as last year, and a restraining order only lasts one year, so he's have had to been making threats against his ex-wife for 10 years solid without remitting for there to have been an order against him all that time. I think that's how the divorce went down, and his ex has every right to exclude him from her life.

You behave badly, you have to pay the price. If AS wanted things to be different, it was within his power to behave differently. I really don't feel bad for a guy who has constantly threatening violence for a decade.

Just because he once was a father doesn't give him a free ticket to be an ***. And he's just kept it up with that book of his. Maybe he will learn a lesson from all this. I think he really needs some tough love at this point.

Here's a direct link to the video from the Globe and Mail article (for those behind a paywall). This case profoundly affected the good people of Gillam and Fox Lake. It's amazing to see how these communities pulled together and supported their people. It also seems like they were comforted and made nervous by the increased RCMP and military presence.

Looks like Gillam has a compassionate mayor who kept the people of his community as his priority. My heart broke for Mrs. Beardy, I didn't know she lost a child. Heartbreaking.

Let's hope that all these people are able to put this horrible episode behind them, move on and that their communities return to normal. They're victims too imo, especially the elders and the people who view the land, the river as sacred places. The healing ceremony will certainly help them.

Edit. IMO, this a short, but beautifully done mini-doc.

I think the healing ceremony is a very powerful message. I'm sure many of the people in Gillam have been following the details and background of this case very closely. In fact, who knows, maybe some are even reading here (if so, hi!) To go with my previous post, I think they're sending a very strong message of: "No. The cycle of hate, pain, and violence ends here, and we are only going to turn it into love, compassion, and positive action." From everything I've read Gillam sounds like a great community full of wonderful, big-hearted people.

I'd bet my lunch that if you've got a peace bond against someone you cannot (technically) contact them either.

In NYC you can't. In fact, you can be arrested if you contact someone who you have a restraining order against. I imagine it's probably the same in many municipalities.

I can’t see them releasing the cell phone to anyone but if they did I would assume the video would be deleted, and anything else they considered evidence.
I’d be surprised if anyone ever would get to see the video outside investigators and the allegedly already seen 30 seconds.

Post of the Day, IMO.

You are spot on, imo. I think it's important to rid the area of the bad vibes the two suspects brought with them, as well as helping everyone, including the spirits of the two suspects move on and find peace. They don't want that negativity hanging over the area, imo. It's their home and Northern Manitoba is a very spiritual place. You can feel it when you're there.

Edit. Manitoba is a Cree word, (from the Assiniboine languages group) referring to Manitu, which means Great Spirit.

Yeah it is odd. I was looking at pictures of them earlier today because of the conversation on here about their general aesthetics yesterday. Bryer's clothing is very plain, as a general rule. He seemed to wear a lot of plain sweatshirts/jackets when he wasn't in camo. I think I only saw one thing he was wearing with a logo, also a sweatshirt.

Fewer pictures of Kam to work with, but even when you can't see exactly what he is wearing, the neckline almost always looks like a T-shirt. The only time I remember seeing him in a jacket is the "butterfly" picture, and his plaid jacket--which, incidentally, I have one just like that--is utilitarian but by virtue of having a pattern is still less plain than most anything Bryer wears.

I actually think that plaid jacket--or one similar to it--might also be in the background of Bryer's Slav squat picture on Instagram. But I am not 100% sure. It did make me wonder if Kam was sitting behind him on the computer while he was demonstrating his Slav squatting/bottle holding skills.

Edited to add: Or maybe Kam draped his jacket over a chair behind Bryer, and he's the one who took the Slav squat pic.
I’ll have to go back to take a look at that... I hadn’t noticed the jacket. So then I wonder whose room that is.... It’s been said Bryer spent slot of time hanging out at Kam’s house, so I’m curious now.

The attorney doesn’t know how the media obtained the email (or letter) to her from the RCMP and she’s under the impression AS wants her to speak for him. I think this attorney/client relationship might be short lived.

“Leamon said Alan Schmegelsky is not willing to provide any statements or comments himself, asking instead to have her represent him to the media.”

“The letter goes on to show the RCMP saying they would appreciate the information to be kept private.
Schmegelsky told CHEK News Saturday that “I just want to lay flowers on my kids grave… I wasn’t invited to his funeral. I don’t even know where he is. Just another stab in my heart by authorities.”...”

He just doesn't strike me as a cologne wearing guy for some reason, not sure why... Out of all the things he could get from his dad for over $100, it's cologne? So odd indeed.
The cologne purchase gave me pause too... after reading the messages, I thought “wait, what?” Just another oddity in an already baffling case.

@Zella I'm always amazed at the tiny details you pick up on!

My guess is it was Kam's room if he was at the computer, since it would be his computer. Who knows.

To me it's one of the main things that indicates they didn't plan this. You would think if it was planned, he would ask for something more practical with the $100. Or just ask for the money. In fact I doubt even the trip north was planned at the time he asked for it, for that reason.

Yes, you're right about the random stuff that's always laying around in Bryer pictures. A foreshadowing of the garbage in the Rav4, I guess.

And Bryer's hair does always look very neatly trimmed--and is quite a bit shorter, really, than I see in a lot of teens around here. I think it's pretty common for hair to darken with age. Mine certainly did. Don't know what his hair looked like at birth, but I was born with jet black hair that as a child cycled through blonde, reddish brown, brown, and then finally settled on about as dark of a brown as you can be without it being black in my teens. And none of that was due to dye!

Kam's tousled hair is more similar to what I see around. His hair is always tousled in the exact same way, which makes me think he was trying to style it that way. I have actually wondered if he was always trying to cover the mole on his forehead. He usually seems to have it strategically placed to do so.
I’d wondered if Bryer colored his hair but it’s so hard to tell from the photos. I think Kam’s tousled hair is deliberate cause, even tousled, it’s still neat and stylish. His beard too!

I honestly cannot remember the pic of the garbage from the Rav4. I’ve searched without any luck so if anyone wants to give me nightmare fuel please feel free!

She could have easily arranged for somebody not on the order to contact him. The orders come with a list of circumstances in which a person can be contacted if needed and this would certainly have been one.

I wonder what Bryer's extended family thinks about not being allowed to visit his final resting place, or know any details of how his remains were disposed, much less anything else. AS mentioned family in Saskatchewan, which is where he is from.

SBM

Agreed. In his graduation picture, it's combed down, but it still has the same basic shape.

Using a 3rd party to pass along a message to someone is still contact.

And just like everyone else in his life, he just screwed his own lawyer by publicizing the email.

I do believe BS's mother and various court-appointed specialists when they say he suffers from mental illness. I hope he shuts up and finally accepts the help he has so sorely needed for years.
Having a mental illness or developmental disorder (unconfirmed) would mean he is extra vulnerable to homelessness, vulture news organisations and to being treated exactly the way he is being treated by his ex and the RCMP. I don't know if there is an ombudsman or commissioner to represent people with mental illness in Canada but hope that AS has somebody for personal support apart from a hired lawyer at the present time. His only son disappears, but he was not told until he saw he was missing in the media, sending messages to Bryer but getting no reply. Bryer and KM then resurface, charged as a fugitive murderers. An emotional and confused AS disclosed he had written a book and was made a fool of in the media, then hooked into participating in an awful tv interview (believing this would allow him to tell the world he did not believe his son could kill people until he had been given evidence (fair enough too!). This resulted in CD's heartbroken sister becoming very upset and attacking him in the media. His son's body is secretly released to his ex-wife and he sees in the news that there was a goodbye recording left but he was not told about it, later to find out his ex wife and possibly other family were allowed to see a portion of the recording, but he was not even told it existed. Anybody working in Psychiatry would have a good idea from seeing AS's video and pattern of behaviour and the reports of Bryer's behaviours what the diagnosis could be for them both.

There is a list of circumstances that allow this to happen, and I certainly believe that notifying your child's father about something like this would be covered under those circumstances!

But do we know if there even was any kind of memorial or funeral? I am kind of doubting that.
We don’t know, and I said the very same thing.... there may not have been anything at all until maybe a later date.
