Normally I wouldn't even blink in the direction of Liberals, but the war has me trying to understand who is the best man to pivot away from the trade relationship with the USA. He has roughly 6-8 weeks to make a mark.

There are some very good sparkling wines produced in the Napa area. At least in the price range and palate that I work in. Althought I like having a few bottles of French champagne in cool storage for special occasions, I don't really drink enough alcoholic beverages to be much concerned about the tariffs. The liquor and wine markets in the US have softened substantially anyway.

The USA government would not put a 200% tariff on champagne if they didn't want to disrupt that market. That tariff is intended as a deterrent. It's like the Canadian tariff on USA dairy that exceeds the allowed 18% of the Canadian dairy market. The tariff jumps from 7.5% to 270% as a deterrent.

What could happen is that USA champagne customers buy European wine, and especially champagne, in Canada. It will be cheaper than buying in the USA. 200% tariffs are an invitation for black market industry.

Sparkling wine will never be champagne. Prosecco will never be champagne, but it tries.

This is just unacceptable.

There was some hope that Rubio would have a core of decency and not become Trump's parrot. I guess we've seen that Rubio has been told how to behave.

This Canada as the 51st state is just a cheap trash talk move to distract from what is really going on with Ukraine, Putin, and the EU, in my opinion.

I truly do wish for the statesman-diplomat model we used to have for US representatives and their President. George H. W. Bush was my model of a President and a diplomat. None of this street trash level talk would ever have been allowed.

But it appears someone is trying to destroy the US from within right now.

I watched this, as a Canadian I was grateful to see an American sticking up for Canada.

Not all of us are allowed to actually see our Republican congressional representatives in person to express our support for the sovereignty of Canada and the disapproval of the hidden and illegal methods being allowed to decimate the federal organizations that do support and protect our natural forests, our parks, our environment, our health, our health care and social security.

USAnians, remember how the cowardly GOP hid from their constituents in these tough and tougher times, and could not defend their shame in acting like jellyfish, while likely claiming benefits under the table from the secret GOP funds.
