Canada is only "broken", if that is the correct word, since Stephen Harper was replaced. At that time, Putin was angry that Canada was so strong. Ten year later, under Trudeau, Putin is looking at Canada as Ukraine 2.0.

Carney, in his first act as prime minister, dropped the consumer carbon tax ... but the carbon tax is not gone. Carbon tax rebates are gone. The tax remains, but it will have a new name. Carney must think that Conservatives having nothing more to offer than to remove the tax, so getting rid of carbon tax means Conservatives will now vote Liberal?

Carney's first responsible act should have been calling an election. Carney is not elected. He should not be running the country any longer than is necessary.

To be fair, Carney doesn't call the election, but he might have mentioned that he will be trotting off to visit the Governor General with the intention of asking Parliament to be dissolved. I don't think* that he is required to call an election until ... when ... August?

Is it in the best interest of Canada to call an election right now? I don't have an opinion on that, but recognize that there may be good reasons to keep parliament running as long as possible.

Very interesting and educational article. Thanks for posting!
I think the colour of the egg, white vs brownish, is down to the breed of the chicken though, not whether it is washed or unwashed. I kind of missed out that part!

oh here we go,. the first of many , .......little Marco is in a snit..

Marco Rubio says South Africa’s ambassador to US is ‘no longer welcome’

US secretary of state accuses Ebrahim Rasool of being a ‘race-baiting politician who hates America’ and Donald Trump

The United States is in effect expelling South Africa’s ambassador to Washington, with secretary of state Marco Rubio accusing the envoy of hating the country and President Donald Trump.

“South Africa’s ambassador to the United States is no longer welcome in our great country,” Rubio posted on X on Friday.

Rasool is a former anti-apartheid campaigner who served time in prison for his activism and went on to become a politician in the African National Congress, the party of Nelson Mandela, the country’s first post-apartheid president.

South Africa was ruled by white Afrikaner leaders during apartheid, which violently repressed the country’s black majority, including forcing them to live in segregated townships and rural “homelands”. Afrikaners are descended mainly from the Dutch, who began colonising South Africa in 1652, as well as French Huguenot refugees sponsored by the Dutch.
Musk and the USA government object to governance and policy in South Africa and have been trying to assert authority in the country to benefit those whom they endorse. The USA government is using trade war threats to force South Africa to do as they want.

Take Sobeys Inc., Canada's second-largest national food retailer with approximately 1,600 stores across ten provinces. A spokesperson of its parent company, Empire Company Limited, told Business Insider that over the past year, around 12% of their sales came from products sourced in the US, but given their work to "find alternatives to US sources over the past 30 days, that number is expected to decrease."
Customers have also started turning products upside down on the shelves to let other customers know they are made in the US.

Rumor has it that Trump has begged Turkyie for eggs, 400 million of them.. thats a long way for an egg to travel.. I don't know how happy Turkish hens are , either, they might be forced to lay to fulfill this order.. unhappy chooks...

That's only one egg per American. And of course they will all have to be flown in because they can't linger en route for weeks. Who knows how long they will get stuck in customs while the USFDA tests them for all the diseases that are tested when importing from countries that don't have the same FDA standards.

The U.S. government objects to South Africa's land expropriation laws, it's anti-Israel stance, and its alliance with Hamas and Iran. Their policies undermine U.S. foreign policy and put our security at risk. And then their ambassador to the U.S. starts agitating with regard to his narrative about the U.S. So now PERSONA NON GRATA is out.

According to the response by South African leadership, they regret the removal of their Ambassador but they don't seem to be too concerned. Hopefully, they will appoint a new ambassador who will be less hostile to his/her host country.

I was really surprised how quickly alot of American products were replaced in stores, it only took two weeks at my local produce store to replace all USA produce. This really opened us up to trades with other countries .I don't think alot of these places would go back to American products. The longer the tariffs go on the more American products get replaced. Like Chapman's Ice cream was getting nuts from the USA they are now looking at Italy because the nuts are a better quality and with the tariffs it's cheaper. We also are selling more and promoting more products to other countries which means less products to sell to Americans . I think once we sell more oil and minerals overseas we will become a lot more stable. There is life after the USA . Kinda like a bad break up . Jmoo

From the article ... this helps me understand the sudden interest in S.Africa.

"Musk, who was born in Pretoria, has been trying to license his Starlink telecommunications business in South Africa.

"But under the country's Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policy telecom firms are required to have 30% ownership by black people. Musk called BEE "racist". Currently, only 3% of the country's top companies are controlled by black South Africans."

It's a dreadful shame that this is happening though. Many Canadians were concerned about the mileage behind their grocery items. I would buy Ontario apples but if there were none, then I'd pick up US apples because they've been grown just across the border and don't have thousands of transportation miles behind them. Now everything that isn't produced in my province has thousands of miles on it.

Honestly, given the language currently used against Canada and Greenland, I don't think the US cares a rat's a$$ about land expropriation in S. Africa.

He sounded just like the tone during the meeting with Ukraine ... Canada has not said thankyou for the tariff war. Rude.

Rude? you are being kind-- I could use many other words to describe DJT behavior towards our good friend Canada, but I will demure for now.

Musk responded on social media by calling the move "crazy", retweeting a post that suggested he should cut off Canadian access to SpaceX and Starlink in retaliation.

Musk's high-profile association with the Trump administration has aligned with a global decline in Tesla sales.
It doesn't help with this now deleted re-tweet:

Be careful to look for Made in Canada versus Product of Canada. There's a big difference. Product of Canada is a Canadian product. Made in Canada is not.

"Under the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, a "Product of Canada" label means at least 98 per cent of the total direct costs of producing the item were incurred in Canada. Essentially, it was made in Canada by Canadians, with negligible imported elements.

If a product is 100 per cent Canadian, the label can say exactly that.

"Made in Canada," meanwhile, means it was more than half of the total direct costs — at least 51 per cent"

Exactly. Musk wants to control policy in South Africa, so the USA federal government is using trade war tactics to coerce South Africa to give Musk what he wants.

He was born and raised in Canada. The big question is: why does he have two other passports?
he went to harvard and oxford and and and maybe he has three???

I think it's foolish to call an election this early. Even though Canada has fairly restrictive regulations as to how long you can actively campaign before an election, Carney needs to illustrate his own agenda and not one tied to the Trudeau leader ship. Poilievre hasn't exactly been campaigning but his higher profile in the government making his talking points and pivoting his beliefs to adjust to the mercurial nature of Trump, could be considered a form of campaigning allowing voters to understand his points. Carney should be allowed to illustrate his. By meeting with other countries, forming alliances along the way, and testing the waters by listening to voters and responding to polls. We all remember the Kamala Harris situation.
