Trump was able to drill down to a huge sense of inferiority in his maga followers and expand their fear and shame into unbridled aggression against "others".

Keeping them poor and unhealthy probably helps.

If Trump told his voters before the election that Canada was an enemy, would anyone take him seriously?

His people would absolutely not care. They didn't care about the most basic decent things a President should have. He did not the first time and a billion times worse the 2nd, as he vowed he would.

Great question! US marshals are responsible for seeing that court decisions are enforced.

And US marshals serve under...the Executive Branch.

We are doomed. There is nothing to hold Trump to account.
it us not that clear cut:

and there is the Q of who/what the military does and who controls it

The degree of vulgar and frankly racist abuse and degradation used by the current administration is horrible.

We need to demand standards of civility, of respect, and of reasonable debate, and of developing shared goals by legal means.
Trump has always been rude and offensive, but that appeals to rednecks. That's their language. They feel like bigshots when the president resorts to name-calling and insults of political opponents and foreign leaders. They have a "get 'em" mentality.

It's been a slow slide. Each time Trump supporters accepted, cheered and imitated his bullying, it escalated a notch. Biden and Trudeau have been Trump's favourite targets for years.

Trump cannot respond to other people's ideas, so he gets rude fast. Look at the meeting with Zelenskyy - he tried to explain that Russia cannot be trusted, Putin violates agreements, and Ukraine needs a security guarantee. Trump responded with shouting, anger and insults. If he had been able to respond to Zelenskyy's concerns and ideas, he would have. He was unable, so he resorted to what he knows best: bullying, ridicule, rudeness.

The rudeness has escalated to the point where Trump's anger at Canada's supply management dairy system resulted in Trump repeatedly using profanity. What that tells us is that Trump does not understand the purpose and value of supply and demand. Rather than reveal weakness and request clarification, he swears.

"A senior government official told CBC News that Trump used profanity more than once while discussing dairy products on Wednesday's call, a longtime trade irritant for the U.S. Trudeau did not use profanity, the official said."

5th paragraph. If you can stomach reading it up until then. I really like President Zelensky, he comes across as a genuine person who truly wants to do what's right for his country and the people who live there. I don't like how his thanks is being portrayed in this, can't explain it but reads off and wrong.
Anyways, 5th paragraph - Trump's price for the support/assistance

Well, being Canadian, we have an unelected guy calling the shots and NO parliament to steer the ship.

Seems like North America is wide open for all dictators to just walk in. Ugh

I'm not sure if you're inferring Carney is or will be a dictator, but he gained his position through a proper democratic process - that being a leadership race with a record turn out. There's nothing below-board about it.

We elect the party, not the individual PM.

National populism.

Victims of political wokism
Victims of migrants destroying way of life
Victims of job loss through cheap foreign labour
Victims of dealignment when chosen political party changes values

"The left has always struggled to make sense of national populism which seeks to prioritise the culture and interests of the nation, and promises to give voice to a people who feel that they have been neglected, even held in contempt, by distant and sometimes corrupt or self-serving elites.
...

National populism is revolving around four deep-rooted societal shifts: the “four Ds”. First, there are high levels of political distrust, which are being exacerbated by populist leaders who paint themselves and their followers as victims of a political system that has become less representative of key groups. Second, many people have strong and entrenched fears about the perceived destruction of national cultures, ways of life and values, amid unprecedented and rapid rates of immigration and ethnic change. Accompanying this distrust and fear are anxieties related to deprivation and the loss of jobs and income, along with a strong sense that they and their ethnic and social group are being left behind relative to others in society.

Finally, many political systems in the west are having to grapple with a new era of dealignment, in which bonds between voters and traditional parties are breaking down, and hence the path for new political challengers is much more open."

It's an odd comment. Ukraine is capable of running those plants - they've been doing it since they were built. The USA wants to own pieces of Ukraine, Russia wants to won other pieces. Is that what Putin and Trump discussed during their 2 hour phone call - who gets what part of Ukraine?

"President Trump also discussed Ukraine’s electrical supply and nuclear power plants. He said that the United States could be very helpful in running those plants with its electricity and utility expertise. American ownership of those plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for Ukrainian energy infrastructure."

I think how to divide Ukraine is EXACTLY what Putin and Trump talked about.

Trump is so one-sided blind to money, land, and metals. He cares nothing at all about any human values. If he says so, it's a sham or a very cynical ploy.

The more I see from Trump and Putin, the more I truly admire Zelensky. He is the only one not interested in getting rich from the assault on The Ukraine.

The government needs to respond to this oil and pipeline request to map new corridors to export Western Canada's natural resources. This is Carney's opportunity to tell Western Canada what his government will do for them. If Carney has nothing to say, Poilievre will say what needs to be said.

"In an open letter to the political leaders published Wednesday, the CEOs of 10 of the largest oil and natural gas companies and the four largest pipeline companies outlined their plan to strengthen Canadian economic sovereignty. The executives called for a simplification of regulations and a commitment to firm, six-month deadlines for project approvals.

They also want an elimination of the federal government's cap on emissions, the repeal of the federal carbon levy on large emitters and loan guarantees to help Indigenous co-investment opportunities.

"We are at a turning point in Canada's history and national interest," the corporate leaders wrote to the Liberal, Conservative, NDP and Bloc Québécois leaders as an election call looms. "There is increasing public support to urgently grow our energy sector and build energy infrastructure, including new oil and natural gas pipelines and LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminals, to expand Canada's energy exports."

Was thinking maybe it was something Putin wanted and this was the only way Donald and Vladimir could think of to get what he wanted, pretend it's for America but really it will be given to Russia? IdK
Doesn't America have an electrical company already managing some of Ukraine’s power plants? Convinced I've seen that somewhere. Ownership and managing are 2 different things though I guess.

Like the nasty people we are. Oopsie.
What wording! "Canada snuck past USA".

Is that really what happened, or is the USA angry-complaining that Canada has options that exclude the USA. The USA assumption seems to be that Canadians are not allowed do anything without USA control and consent - can't change the price of electricity, can't govern northern waters, can't govern agriculture industry. So arrogant and entitled!

The USA spent months talking about, Carney took action in days. What's the problem. The USA had months to take action but they did not.

"For months, senior officials have been discussing exporting Australia's world-leading radar technology JORN to the United States, but after Donald Trump's return to the White House, Canada saw an opportunity and leapt."

Sounds just like a mob boss. "It would be a shame if you didn't agree that our interests are in your best interests."

Snipped: Tariffs, for example, are justified by the USA government based on false claims that Canada presents a security risk due to a very small amount of fentanyl entering the USA from Canada. The gov't needed a "security risk' to justify tariffs. Many USA people cheered that Canada would be forced to take responsibility for the USA mental-health fentanyl problem. USA victims were taking back their country.

Why is it Canada's responsibility to stop fentanyl from entering the US? Why is it not US responsibility to stop fentanyl from entering the US? In my limited travel across US, Canadian and Mexican borders, seems to me, no one really cared about the people leaving. They were concerned about the people coming in.

If the US doesn't want fentanyl coming in across our borders, then we need to stop it from happening. Or do we not really care about that?
not only is this not a massive gaslighting of the citizens...but when you have speeding car that if the police catch up with you good luck for your health:(...i figure people on fentanyl and that trank are racing like mad to get away (have you seen on youtube how lovely they look) well if the police cant stop people standing still what the heck are they doing??? blame Canada yep...jat

If Carney is half the finance man he's told us he is, he knows we'll have to pay for his new defense spending somehow.

It is massive gaslighting, especially repeatedly telling USA people that the USA subsidizes Canada with payments of $200 billion per year. That is completely untrue. The USA does not subsidize Canada for even one dollar. Canada is a sovereign, not subsidized, country.

The USA buys oil from Canada. Oil costs money. The USA buys more from Canada (oil) than the other way around. It's simple commerce, but Trump has his supporters believing something very different ... and they believe it. They don't care what Canada says, or what anyone says. If Trump says it, they want to believe it because it means their redneck souls can emerge to bully Canadians.

Just as the Pentagon removed the website for the Memorials for the Navajo Code Talkers and the DEI marines who were in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

However, strangely enough, I can still find the webpage about the Navajo Code Talkers on the State Dept Embassy of Mongolia website. So weird. (Please don't tell Secretary Hegsbeth or the Dept of Defense). I can see it by googling Navajo Code Talkers, but it imports as "Technical Difficulties.

And now this...

Jackie Robinson’s Army career wiped from military website in DEI purge
