Interesting that you mention a “bad script from Vance.” Many felt that his words to Zelenskyy in the Oval Office were scripted. Personally, I’m inclined to think that Putin is the script writer.

Makes sense. Def not from t. A mix of m and p and the rest of the '25' group. It is horrifically bizarre and we know p has t's ear filling it with ways to be all powerful and keep the world safe, Greenland for one. (insane to even put that out there to Greenland, talk about arrogance and NOT READING THE ROOOOM of the sane countries. )

Sorry Elon.
Payments for Teslas under Canada’s electric vehicle rebate program have been frozen pending a government investigation into whether they’re valid.

Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland said in a statement Tuesday that eligibility criteria for future incentive programs for zero-emission vehicles will be changed to ensure Tesla will not be eligible “so long as the illegitimate and illegal U.S. tariffs are imposed against Canada.”

Canada freezes Tesla rebate payments, excludes company from future programs

ETA: Chrystia Freeland was not shy on taking on Putin. She will definitely not be shy taking on Elon.

Def JG's fault for this and his 'failing magazine'. He must be sick of saying Biden by now, has a newbie now.

It is a very nice contrast, as an observer , to watch the subtle ways the Danish /Greenlanders are dealing with American politics that are interfering in their world.... Carney is going about his business in a very subtle way, too, the quiet statements, the rational responses, the firm yet fair claims, his understated trip to Brussels, and his calm smooth progress on his election campaign... the contrast between him and DJT is like a Grand Canyon, Trumps blithering and muttering and whinging and lying and 5th grade vocabulary, ( everything is 'bad' or 'beautiful'..)

Mette Fredrikson, of Denmark , a seasoned politician , Prime Minister of Denmark, is simply not engaging with Trump on his level, knowing his contempt for women in general. She goes about it in a different way, yet sublimely subtle as well. States her case, turns around and walks away.... Joly of Canada is using that tactic, too, it's very effective.

The Panamanian President is biding his time, he has that factor on his side, he just is not going to get down and dirty with Trump until he's good and ready...

Australia has decided to pony up with funds to counteract Trump's nonsense, 100 million to Indo Pacific region in response to Trumps pulling out of the funding.. not saying much, just keeping an eye on folks that might get left behind.. sort of subtle, 100 million is about as subtle as we can cough up, with a Federal election on the horizon..

PS, I meant to add, Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, graceful, clear, concise and unhurried, her manner of dealing with this Trumpian nonsense is fabulous to watch, also

I'm glad to see the contrast between elected leadership who can behave to playground taunts, threats, and aggressions with civil and polite brief talk in a calm manner, without engaging the clown.

I don't know much about USA politics, but it sounds like Congress is the only group that can stop Trump. That is where protests need to happen. Peaceful, un-armed, protesters need to get the attention of Congress all day every day and force them to stop the runaway train.

Media blitz is another option. Forget Fox - that is owned by the Whitehouse. CNN is ignored as Democrat. Use twitter and instagram - that's the language of people under age 40. Make noise as loud as Hamas did to gain USA student support for Gaza - that was an organized, structure, targeted social media attack aimed at students. Use the same methods.
Thanks so much for replying @otto. I’m afraid I’m going to sound pretty defeated.

The Republicans (Trump’s party) have the majority in both the House and Senate. They won’t defy Trump because they are (rightly) afraid of him and/or agree with him. They won’t even meet with their angry demonstrating constituents. The next congressional election is in 2026 (if there is one) and it will be too late. We’ll see if the demonstrations on April 5 at the capitols of all 50 states have any effect.

I think the media is afraid too. There is no coverage of the demonstrations that I can see except on liberal MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show. Trump has the billionaires like Bezos (Amazon and the Washington Post), and Zuckerberg (Facebook and Instagram) in his pocket. He goes after newspapers and TV stations that have stories he doesn’t like. Musk owns Twitter/X and routinely scrubs uncomplimentary posts.

I don’t mean to sound unappreciative of your suggestions, @otto. Normally, they would have an effect. But we are dealing with a President and government that is trampling the Constitution and laws with no fear of consequences. Trump promised retribution (for what was “done” to him) and he’s succeeding. Court cases that go against him are appealed and will end up at the Supreme Court, where he has a majority of the judges on his side. Even if they rule against him, the courts have no power to enforce their opinions. In the past, Presidents would comply. But Trump will do what he wants.

There are a lot of very smart people in this country. I read their comments on various substacks I follow and they are all asking “What can we do?” If there was something to do, I’m sure they’d be doing it. I’m afraid it’s too late, even for many of the suggestions in Timothy Snyder’s “On Tyranny.”

"Vance: "On behalf of Donald Trump, I would like to say that we will revive the security of the Greenlandic people because we believe it is important to protect the security of the entire world.

Ironic really. Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that Vance was texting ...... “I just hate bailing Europe out again”?

Why it matters

Trump's approval rating is a key indicator of his political strength as he navigates his second presidential term and prepares for future policy battles.

A shift in his numbers could influence support from Republican lawmakers, affect his ability to push through his agenda and shape the political landscape heading into the midterm election cycle.

What To Know

Rasmussen's daily poll tracker shows that Trump's approval rating has increased by 1 point since yesterday, from 50 percent to 51 percent. Meanwhile, his disapproval rating has decreased by 1 point, from 48 to 47 percent. That gives him a net approval rating of +4 points.

According to the Reuters poll, which is the more accurate, quite a lot of folks think the sky is falling..

Republican lawmakers would be ill advised to rely on just one poll to support their belief in pushing thru the Trump agenda..

but , hey ho... not my problem. Thankgod almighty. I am , by the grace of god, 10.000miles away from it!!

24 March 2025 (and before the disaster of learning about inviting a journalist into a Yemen attack text conversation, complete with infantile emojis)

And if you read the whole article, you will see that the tariffs and govt dismantling is a significant vulnerability for Trump. What voters wanted was a stable economy and a lower cost of living, not what tariffs will bring them.

"At this point in a president’s term, polling typically shows at least a majority of voters approving.

Indeed, as NBC’s Steve Kornacki pointed out, Trump’s 47 percent approval is lower than former presidents Obama (62 percent), Bush (58 percent), Biden (54 percent) and Clinton (53 percent) at the same time in their terms.

So, while Trump may be at his own high watermark, the data suggest that less than half of Americans are responding positively to what he is doing.

To that end, on every issue aside from immigration, Trump’s approval rating is negative."

New polling data underscores Trump’s vulnerabilities

It’s very close.

IMO, it’s in splitting hairs territory with these polls.

The only poll that counted was on Election Day, as usual.

Curious as to why you feel Reuters is more accurate?

It surveys a bigger contingent. some of those polls quoted had about 700 participants, Reuters has around 6000, and often 10,000 or more. Reuters track record is solid, too, and in my opinion, it is less compromised by the selection of criteria for participants. This is open to personal viewpoint, but that is my viewpoint, they are less compromised historically, and over time more accurate than other poll Orgs..

To set the scene from this view point, in my country, the polls from various sources re political challengers and incumbents usually rock along at about 49 to 51...this is right up to election day, rarely would I see such figures as displayed in these Trump polls in my national polls.... when I see scores of 44 to 52, I see a huge gap but that may be from my pre-learned viewpoint, would you agree?? It's just a differing viewpoint, it isn't a rigid claim.

Rasmussen is a biased, pro-Trump poll. Totally unreliable.

If people don’t think the sky is falling because this has become an authoritarian nation, and think Trump is doing a great job, they either haven’t been paying close attention or they figure the unconstitutional and illegal actions he is taking are just fine as long as they happen to other people. But it’s really too bad they don’t care enough about the Constitution and other people to be very concerned. I will say JMO, but being freaked out about the President violating the constitution is not just a matter of “oh well, that’s just my opinion.”

I must admit to a sense of utter terror to think that there are actually Americans seeing what is happening to them and not thinking the sky is falling in. That has to take some kind of cognitive dissonance of a degree immeasurable.. . or .. a big bucket of fentanyl daily. That would be Mexican fentanyl, probably, not Canadian, according to the latest report from Border Patrol..

Absolutely agree. It is terrifying.

I confess to wondering at times how the Germans allowed Hitler to gain power in 1933, but now I see how. Some ignored news and didn’t have a clue. Some knew what was happening but didn’t understand the ramifications. And some, like me, knew exactly what was happening but didn’t see a way to stop it.

I have friends who don’t pay attention to news for various reasons. Most don’t like negativity, so I don’t inform them. I just tell them they really need to pay attention. They won’t know what’s happening when their Social Security check doesn’t arrive and they can’t reach the Social Security office. Or worse.
