Oh no.!!!!! not the Smithsonian!!!! the Smithsonian, and the US Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corp are the only things in the USA worth a crumpet!!!!!! HANDS OFF THE SMITHSONIAN>>>

'''''President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a sweeping plan to reshape the Smithsonian Institution, signing an executive order aimed at cutting funding to programs he claims promote "divisive narratives" and "improper ideology."

Trump said a "concerted and widespread" effort over the past decade has sought to rewrite American history by replacing "objective facts" with ideologically driven distortions.

The order places Vice President JD Vance in charge of leading the effort to eliminate what the administration deems "improper ideology" across all branches of the Smithsonian, including its museums, research centers, educational initiatives and even the National Zoo.''''''

PS... ( Maybe the Met in New York might be on the worthy list.... ) Santa Barbara station, ok.. it can be on the list.. The Guggenheim...I might think of other bits.. bits of Savannah... bits of Vermont.. thats it.

Of course, the irony is that neither Trump nor Vance has ever read any of the wonderful articles from The Smithsonian

Take your fat orange short vulgarian fingers off of MY Smithsonian.

Improper ideology? FIRST AMENDMENT

First amendment under fire, folks

Ireland taking a bit of a bashing re tariffs.... pharmaceutical products particularly.. god knows what insulin is going to cost in the USA soon.. epipens, panadol, etc... hard times for USA citizens, ... learning how to cope with pain unmedicated.. good lord. Because these tariffs imposed on Ireland will raise the price of medicinal products, scripted and over the counter, by at least 40%... the tariff is 25 % but the handling costs will have to be borne by the consumer, on top of the tariff..

Jeebua. You would think the FDA might want to do something about stabilizing the supply of insulin.

I guess the DHHS boss will just tell diabetics to take Vitamin A.

BTW< Pediatricians in Texas are starting to note signs of vitamin A toxicity in children. Unvaccinated children. Some neurologic changes, some abnormal liver function tests. Vitamin A can cause irreversible and fatal liver disease. This is just outrageous

Gallup poll shows Americans disapprove of what Trump is doing in all categories almost all categories.

The March poll also asked Americans to assess how Trump is handling eight different policy issues. Consistent with Trump’s 53% overall job disapproval rating in March, majorities of Americans disapprove of his performance on all but one of the issues — energy policy — for which just under half, 47%, disapprove, while 45% approve.

Trump receives a 39% approval rating for his management of relations with Russia, 41% each for the economy, foreign affairs, the environment and the situation in Ukraine, 43% for the federal budget, and 44% for relations with the news media.

They may disapprove, but they haven't made enough noise to their Representatives and Senators to get anyone of them to budge from their galley-slave obeisance to Trump.

Are you kidding me???!!!
The Smithsonian is all about science and facts and tested theories.

But the Trump admin claims there are 'divisive narratives" and "improper ideology"? There's no ideology in science. SMH.

It's just like the false "Canada is a major supplier of fentanyl therefore we must use false loopholes to impose tariffs" stance. It's shameful. Anyone who stands for this must speak up as to why this bully is allowed to do what he is doing.

It is the museums....https://hyperallergic.com/987131/museums-scramble-to-grasp-impact-of-trump-dei-mandate/

But what people outside the US should appreciate is that not so very long ago, these places were compelled by law to have DEI initiatives and now they are being punished for having them. The whipsaw is brutal... I can imagine some stodgy old people on boards 4 yrs ago saying "we have to do what? Okay, Okay, whatever.." and now they are being told: "get rid of this program yesterday; why did you ever put it in place?"

I'm sure it might be frustrating but they were originally told to represent all of America. And now they are being punished if they actually represent all of America.
I don't feel sorry for them. History is history. And I'm not talking about white-washed history.

Why are people afraid of the facts? There is nothing wrong with telling the truth. And if your government is telling you not to tell the truth, then the problem lies with the government.

eta: I have to add that I'm not sure why a museum board would have to be told what to do. They should just promote the facts. I don't feel sorry for these board members. You either believe in history or you don't. It seems that the US admin doesn't want them to tell a truthful, full history.

Trump's government, under Hegseth also doesn't want America to be able to honor the men and women who served in their military forces and are buried in Arlington National Cemetary.

They removed the pages that highlighted the efforts and achievements of national heroes that were black, women, hispanic or of other non-white origin.

with all due respect, museums have a lot of choice in what they put in shows- the Smithsonian has tons of art and artifacts and historical and "science" items in its collections- lots never on display. (look up the movie: "Hidden Figures." When were we going to find out about them?) So if you have to, you will surely find some art and science connected to women or minorities or the indigenous... but you might also just display very generic items and it might all hinge on who is on the Board or who is hired as curatorial staff, what gets promoted and displayed, IMO. And the more generic stuff might still all be educational or uplifting or beautiful, just not particularly diverse.

To me, that is the ultimate description of fascism.
The US government wants to erase history. And they promote the hatred of "others".
They grab people off the street and put them in detention with no due process.

It's just like the lies they tell about Canada and other trade partners in order to justify their actions.

Jeebus. I was going to mention the shocking costs of new cars, but this little tidbit made me stop and think.

File this under: When Security is Not Really Secure for the National Security Advisor

National Security Adviser Michael Waltz's Venmo account was left open and exposed the names /contacts of 328 of his personal and professional contact

WHOA Amaterur Hour at the offices of the National Security Advisor.

This is unforgiveable.

"A Venmo account under the name “Michael Waltz,” carrying a profile photo of the national security adviser and connected to accounts bearing the names of people closely associated with him, was left open to the public until Wednesday afternoon. A WIRED analysis shows that the account revealed the names of hundreds of Waltz’s personal and professional associates, including journalists, military officers, lobbyists, and others—information a foreign intelligence service or other actors could exploit for any number of ends, experts say.

Among the accounts linked to “Michael Waltz” are ones that appear to belong to Susie Wiles, the White House chief of staff, and Walker Barrett, a staffer on the United States National Security Council. Both were fellow participants in a now-infamous Signal group chat called “Houthi PC small group"

"A WIRED review of public data exposed on Venmo accounts associated with senior administration officials suggests that the Signal group chat was not an isolated mistake, but part of a broader pattern of what national security experts describe as reckless behavior by some of the most powerful people in the US government.

The Venmo account under Waltz’s name includes a 328-person friend list. Among them are accounts sharing the names of people closely associated with Waltz, such as Barrett, formerly Waltz’s deputy chief of staff when Waltz was a member of the House of Representatives, and Micah Thomas Ketchel, former chief of staff to Waltz and currently a senior adviser to Waltz and President Donald Trump."

With all due respect back, why wouldn't the displays represent a mixture of everyone? A balance?
It definitely feels like there is an agenda here, particularly when the board is told not to display certain items.

ETA: Vance and gang said there was 'improper ideology' and 'divisive narratives'. What is improper or divisive about what the museum posted? Calling it 'improper'?? I interpret that as meaning not to support black history. JMO.

You've got my total support. I would love to believe there is another view, but I can't find it.

I'm curious. Why is the US admin trying to take over Canada (and is being more aggressive to Canada, their closest ally), but not Mexico? What is the difference between the two countries? Is it resources? Is it race? I'm not sure, but I'm definitely curious.

I think population size: at 40 million, Canada is similar to California's population. Whereas there are 130 million Mexicans.

There are 56,000 Greenlanders.

The US is not the only country with a sordid history. We have one, too. But we are owning it, and trying to rectify it.
(Eg: National Museum Australia - Repatriation and Thousands of Aboriginal ancestral remains to be returned to communities )

And I think the reason that not everything that a museum owns is on display is because they have too much stuff. They have to rotate it. Put some out in exhibitions, then take that down and put other stuff out. It also keeps people interested in visiting the museum on multiple occasions to view the things that were previously stored.

The US seems to not only be involved in newly formed trade wars, but is now also at war with its own history. Which is not particularly enlightening for the youngsters who are growing up with no knowledge of the mistakes of the past, so those mistakes are not made again.

imo

If Canada needed anything extra in it's choice of PM, it needed one that was a realist. Carney has had to look at things with a cold eye and remove all sentiment and nostalgia from his perspective, no easy task.

You can tell it's taking a toll on him, but facing reality is the absolute necessity currently. There is no point in looking backwards of how things used to be, those days are gone, and this new program has to be dealt with realistically and promptly...

..... not a lot of room for error, even small ones have large consequences.. And the pressure on Canada, as it is on Greenland/Denmark is intense and relentless, illmannered, bombastic, repellent and vile, but there it is, and it has to be countered.

I find myself admiring Carney's method, along with Mette Frederickson's ,, it is such a contrast to the bluster and boofheadedness emanating from the USA , with no grounds but sheer greed and thievery displayed..

Danielle Smith is a very stupid woman.
