Isn't one of the options labeled Maple MAGA?
You can label politicians all you want, which is expected during election campaigns, but Pierre Poilievre's leadership cuts across such simple labels, although many people will not see beyond such labels. That's a shame, because he would make a great leader for Canada going forward.

For decades the Columbia River has benefited both the U.S. and Canada with little worry. Then Trump took office

A river that runs between the U.S. and Canada has now run itself right into the middle of the fight between the two allies.

President Donald Trump’s administration has now stopped negotiations to re-up a decades-old U.S.-Canada treaty that controls the flow of the Columbia River between British Columbia after claiming it could play a role in solving California water shortages.

Other than economic blackmail, another tactic would be to install a Trump-leaning government that would then proclaim giving in to his demands a national interest. Just a friendly "territorial takeover".

<modsnip: Quoted post removed due to no link>

Who to believe??? USA federal government propaganda, or scientists?

He was denied entry to the USA for an opinion about Trump silencing scientists, or he had a document that violated a non-disclosure agreement. When was the non-disclosure implemented - before or after he had the document? Scientists were silenced last month. When did he receive the document?

How did he get the document from inside the USA if he was denied entry to the USA? OR maybe there was no non-disclosure agreement when he was given the document?

"A French scientist was also recently denied entry into the United States for a conference, under disputed circumstances.

"I learned with concern that a French researcher on assignment for the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) who was travelling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled," Minister for Higher Education and Research Philippe Baptiste said in a statement to Agence France-Presse.

The measure was apparently taken because the scientist had expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration's research policy, he added, but did not elaborate.

A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection said privacy restrictions barred the agency from discussing specific cases, but a spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security vehemently denied the allegation.

Spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said on social media that "the French researcher in question was in possession of confidential information on his electronic device from Los Alamos National Laboratory — in violation of a non-disclosure agreement — something he admitted to taking without permission and attempted to conceal."

So then he would be depriving a large swath of the west coast and northwest US of some of the hydroelectric power derived from Colombia River hydroelectric dams farther downstream, between Oregon and Washington. The snow that feeds the Columbia largely comes from British Columbia, Canada.

The droughts are already threatening that.

In this 2014 article, it notes that the Columbia River Basin supplies 40% of the hyroelectric power in the US.

"Hydroelectric power, generated through the Columbia River System from dams like Grand Coulee, is supplied to Washington, Oregon, Idaho and parts of Montana, California, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Canada."

Poor Pierre...... every word Trump utters digs Pierre a little deeper into a hole. Same with RW opposition right across the globe.. France's RW, Jordan Bardella, recently elevated to Marie Le Pen's former position, in the faint hope that the French will forget Marie's terrible devotion to Trump politics , is barely scraping by,... Kemi Badenoch, in Britain is merely filling in time, no one takes her seriously, and her party of Conservatives probably won't be taken seriously for about 50 years.

The AU opposition , a conglomerate of clowns, formerly rabid Trumpites, have been reduced to scrabbling for a policy to take to an election, any time soon.

NZ went Right Wing with Luxton and is regretting it deeply and sincerely.. Luxton will be lucky to finish out his term..

The Netherlands, Sweden,Norway, Denmark, Spain, .. ditto. Even Italy is wobbling badly under Meloni ./things have gone a bit awry, mainly because Trumpish 'economics' for want of a better word, just don't cut it in the 21st century.

Canadians are not dumb about elections, they are a well read and educated peoples, interested in stuff outside their suburb, they know all this, they can measure trends and cycles. And , of course, Trump , in his utter meglomania has united Canadians, like never before, .. whoda thunk it , eh?

This is one of the strangest things I've read about the USA. Apparently individual states need federal government oversight before they respect the rights of all. The concern in closing the Federal Department of Education is that states will deny education to persons with disabilities.

What kind of dysfunctional society is this - where people around the country need force to educate all? Which states will deny education to persons with disabilities. They need to be named and shamed!

As long as the USA society refuses to respect the rights of their own citizens, they will never respect the rights of Canadians, Greenlanders, Panamanians, South Africans, Australians, New Zealanders, Ukrainians, and more.

"Trump signed an executive order on Thursday that aims to shut down the Department of Education, the federal agency that ensures states provide all children with equal access to schooling and oversees the $1.6 trillion US college student loan program.
While states have primary jurisdiction over the school systems in the U.S., including over curriculum, the federal department enforces compliance with laws that prohibit discrimination in education and administers funding aimed at boosting educational achievement.
...
Without federal enforcement of educational access laws, states will be free to decide that "kids who are blind, who are deaf, who have Down's syndrome, who have autism are too expensive to teach," said Keri Rodrigues, founding president of the National Parents Union."

You nailed it!

President Donald Trump’s administration has now stopped negotiations to re-up a decades-old U.S.-Canada treaty that controls the flow of the Columbia River between British Columbia after claiming it could play a role in solving California water shortages.

He has already foolishly wasted a significant northern California reservoir storage that was reserved for summer agricultural needs because of his impulsive and extremely STUPID executive order. The system was not set up to supply southern California needs at all and was not needed at the time he made the EO.

He acted foolishly, impulsively and without the advisement of the established State Water Resources Control Board , and California Department of Water Resources who would never have advised this action.

He wanted to show his power over Governor Newsom in a big noisy way and all agencies agree that the water was not needed in Southern California when he made the EO, and his demand to have it done immediately was not possible due to the routing and process that water is routed from major reserves. There is no one big pipeline of water from northern to southern California.

The CDWP at least was able to reroute some of the released water into aquifers to try to reserve it for when it is critically needed for north and central California farms, orchards, and fields in the summer months.

It was really reprehensible how stupid and inept this show-off move was.

Joseph Goebbels would be very envious of this propaganda piece.
It's every day too.
Phrases like "hostile foreigner"
Words like "savage" "violent"

It's horrible - what is wrong with these people?

And yes, he would be!!

Everyone’s definition of a friend is different.

“Personal friends” of politicians is a topic of its own.

Going through history in terms of “famous politicians with friends”, I think Trump is more like Napoleon - no close friends; instead, there is the family.
isn't the saying no friends in politics or business partnerships...and the there is His family well now can we talk....jat

Did you notice that if you click on the "On overreach by activist judges:" link within your White House link that it takes you to an X post showing Pam Bondi speaking on Fox News?

And the referenced X account is Rapid Response47 .... "Official Rapid Response account of the Trump 47 White House. Supporting @POTUS's America First agenda and holding the Fake News accountable. MAGA!"

It is not only the crapola they are spouting, the delivery of the crapola is very low-end.

The White House feels the need to reference a TV appearance on a station that paid $787.5M for lying to the US public, via an "America First .... Fake News ... MAGA!" X account. And they apparently use this as a 'credible' source.

Classy.

imo

If Trump has a problem with the decades long agreement with Canada about the Columbia River, I hope Canada will just dig a trench to the Pacific Ocean and let the water flow there. Clearly the US doesn't need it (we don't need anything from Canada, remember).

The big problem that no one in the USA, at Fox news, or at the Whitehouse mentions is that there was no due process. Being Venezuelan, and being picked up in the USA, does not equal gang. Due process is no longer a right in the USA, and everyone seems okay with that. The only person who had the guts to stand up for due process is described by USA gov't as "out of control"

Is this a USA gov't test to see what people will accept. Next time, will it be a gang of people born in the USA, and they'll be on a plane to El Salvador without due process? Who will be next - "out of control" judges?
