Europe is seeking our "Western" oil. So is Atlantic Canada.

We're still waiting 10 years (3 Liberal governments) on. IMO.

-
There's no question that Liberal's have handicapped trade diversification for 10 years, thus leaving Canada vulnerable to the USA. Carney stated that carbon emission caps will remain in place, but he expects that carbon capture will offset the problem, thus opening cross-Canada and global markets. Alberta premier said that carbon emission caps means oil production caps - although that has not been backed up with data that includes carbon capture projects.

"Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently spoke at the Raisina Dialogue, India’s largest geopolitical conference, calling for Canada to immediately revive an eastern pipeline. “We need to build a pipeline in the east so we can supply our own country with energy,” Harper said.

Canada’s failure to develop eastward energy infrastructure has left it uniquely vulnerable to trade retaliation. While countries like Norway and Qatar have expanded their global energy markets, Canada remains tethered to the US, even as American trade policy grows more protectionist.

The MEI (Montreal Economic Institute) study concludes that Ottawa must make energy diversification a top priority, including simplifying regulatory hurdles, repealing the Impact Assessment Act and sending a clear message to investors that major infrastructure projects will not be blocked."

4) Leave Greenland alone!
RSBM.

Indeed as to point 4!!

For running on a platform of "AMERICA FIRST - USA, USA, USA"

He certainly seems to be overly preoccupied with Annexation threats of other sovereign nations! I missed that in his platform and campaign promises.

Thing is, we've heard these promises before about oil & trade & economic security from Carney's predecessor. I won't even count the promises made to Veterans not kept.

After 10 years, nyet. This is why it's hard to believe them ... and it's why PP has been bringing it up for years. Suddenly, now the Liberals are switching their platform up and utilizing talking points that PP himself raised long ago (yet some see him as the 'bad guy'). I'll give PP credit where it is due, he was calling for these things and border security etc long before Trump was re-elected.

If we are going to win a trade war with the US and look after ourselves, the time is now to get these things done. Promises made but not kept will not go over well for our future as an independant sovereign nation no matter who wins on 28 April.

IMO.

I understand, and agree. The Liberal gov't under Trudeau has been a very big problem for Western Canada, military, and more for too long. I want to see Carney as having a new and better vision. I don't like Poilievre's decision to eliminate CBC news, and I don't like the Trump slogans that he is using in Canada.

Can something be done today such that Carney announces increased salaries and better benefits for military before the election? Does he know that matters?

Carney has said that he wants increased military recruitment - that should include competitive salaries.

This CNN headline says it all:

"Stocks rally as Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ is looking like yet another tariff retreat"

Let's see, April 2 is still 9 days away and Trump has already started pivoting, backtracking, and more boasting about tariffs.

Looks like the finanical powers in the US aren't buying it.

Backing down on the automotive industry kind of defeats the purpose of tariffs. His big claim is to return manufacturing to the USA, but that's impossible with vehicle assembly.

His retaliatory tariffs will be equally ridiculous. He will focus on over-quota tariffs, not standard tariffs. Using standard tariff means he will have to admit that the tariff on Canadian dairy is 7.5%, not 270%. Is he will to correct lies he has told for years?

"For example, Trump said in February that he intended to impose auto tariffs "in the neighbourhood of 25 per cent" and similar duties on semiconductors and pharmaceutical imports, but he later agreed to delay some auto tariffs after a push by the three largest U.S. automakers for a waiver.

The new comment from the White House on Monday suggests that may not be the case after all."

It all looks more and more like a scheme to short the market.

Anger in Greenland over Usha Vance and Mike Waltz’s planned visit this week

Greenland’s prime minister says move is ‘demonstration of power’ and accuses US of interfering in its political affairs

Greenland’s prime minister, Múte B Egede, has called for the international community to step in after it was announced that Donald Trump’s national security adviser and the US second lady will visit the Arctic island, accusing Washington of “foreign interference”.

Mike Waltz and Usha Vance are scheduled to arrive in Greenland this week as part of a delegation that will also include the US energy secretary, Chris Wright. A spokesperson for the Danish police confirmed on Monday that they had sent extra personnel and sniffer dogs to Greenland as they step up security measures before the visit.

[...]

The most pro-Trump and pro-US party in the Greenland coalition talks – Naleraq, which came second in the vote – left the negotiations on Monday, according to the leader of the Greenland Democrats, Jens Frederik Nielsen.

[...]

Nielsen, who is expected to become the next prime minister, had earlier called for calm and said they would continue to take the time needed to reach a “solid and sustainable political agreement”. He accused the US of a “lack of respect” in planning the visit while coalition talks were still happening.

[...]

The Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, said on Sunday that the planned visit “cannot be seen independently of the public statements that have been made”. She added: “In the kingdom, we want to cooperate with the Americans. But it must be a cooperation that is based on the fundamental values of sovereignty and respect between countries and peoples …

“This is something we are looking at seriously. The dialogue with the US regarding Greenland will take place in close coordination between the Danish government and the future Greenlandic government.”

I guess it's too late for Carney to announce better salaries and benefits for military - missed opportunity.

Carney has said that before he will speak with Trump, Trump must state that Canada is a sovereign country. I don't think Trump will ever do that, so it's unlikely that Carney will speak with Trump even if he is elected.

"Now that campaigning has started, the government is bound by a so-called caretaker convention, which means it can engage in routine business but should avoid major policy decisions.

The election comes at a particularly sensitive time for Canada given the threat it faces from U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and remarks about annexing Canada, which Carney on Sunday called “the most significant crisis of our lifetimes.”
...

The Carney campaign says the Canadian embassy has reached out to the White House to arrange a call but has not received an answer.

Liberal campaign organizers say that every G7 leader has called directly or posted congratulations to Carney, except Trump. Campaign organizers say it’s customary for heads of state to congratulate newly elected leaders."

This is utterly despicable that Trump is trying to insert himself into Canadian politics

Thank you for posting this Betty.
But those of us in other countries that are being attacked by your admin are understandably concerned.
Of course we understand that there are many Americans that disagree with Trump and gang, but they are your official representatives.

I love that you are standing against him. That's what we need to hear.
Don't forget me!!
My congressional senators and house rep are either not responding, responding in a condescending letter misrepresenting the vote he cast or refusing to meet in town halls with constituents aka running scared .

I think they are expecting Elon to fund their reelection.

Trump Jr is by far the skeeviest and weakest of his children by Ivana. Well known for his nose candy use. A very bad imitation of his father.

He still wouldn't be able to find Greenland on a map.

Which reminds me, whatever happened to his ex-girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle. I wonder if she ever made it to Greece or got jettisoned somewhere over the Mediterranean. Current WH clearly wants nothing to do with her.

I'd cross the street to avoid walking near him.

Yes it is @Herat ….. and I yearn for a return to better diplomatic means and measures. When things it seemed were not done ‘online’ or in a widely publicized method. Rather perhaps held quietly in a diplomatic and professional manner.

Seems a return to the sanctity and wisdom of former President Theodore Roosevelt is needed. When words long the lines of ‘speak softly, but carry a big stick’ were invoked by him on September 2, 1901 at the 1901 Minnesota State Fair. See this KSTP 5 Eyewitness News news clip from ~1 year ago entitled ‘So Minnesota: Teddy Roosevelt's 'Speak softly and carry a big stick' Minnesota State Fair speech’:

Sadly, IMO it seems that now there is almost the exact polar opposite of this occurring. And on a world stage in full view. MOO

Did the Vances forget about how they were treated when they went to Vermont? Do they really think a trip to one of the countries they’re trying to take over is going to treat them differently?

No. It's a stunt for the press to cover while they do something worse. Probably make Greenland the oppresser. You know the same old cry about being disrespected and taken advantage of.

At least Melania stays out of it. She can hide in her gilded world and get her nails done.

Ha, yes. Imagine her reaction if they first approached her to go to Greenland!

So, taking a brief dive into Greenland politics, the majority just voted, essentially, for future independence from Denmark. So they are not loyal colonists, at all. Unfortunately, it is probably a fragile democracy, which is when foreign influence can be overly dominant.

It's not part of her contract. This time around she negotiated skipping most of the first lady's duties. Trump is busy with Elon and won't notice her absence.
