I think I need one of these. I wish it came in green or blue. I am very uncomfortable wearing a red hat.

Editor-in-chief: Can create a better basis for cooperation for the US

1 hour ago Kassaaluk Kristensen
J. D. Vance, his wife and the rest of the American delegation have decided to drop the plans in Nuuk and Sisimiut, and instead choose to travel to Pituffik Space Base on Friday.

This is what director and editor-in-chief of Sermitsiaq, Masaana Egede, points to:

- I think it is good for the United States, if they want a future collaboration, that they choose to go to Pituffik Space Base, because we know what it is and understand the function of the base. And that they choose not to go to Nuuk during a coalition negotiation, and choose not to go to Sisimiut for such a proud race, I think is a relief for a lot of people, says Masaana Egede.

Although changes to the travel plans may seem more harmless and less invasive, it should still be kept in mind that the United States' interest in Greenland has not diminished:

"Despite the fact that it seems positive, we must be fully aware that this is still a very clear signal to Denmark, Greenland and NATO that they still want Greenland," says Masaana Egede.

( bit of a win for the doggies , ... bit of a face palm for the missus, and the mister.. .... I suspect the Danes said nix, to the dog stuff and parading round Nuuk, but we'll let you visit your rental , under supervision, then it's byebye.. )

The Danes do this kind of thing so well.. centuries of practice, I guess.... .

That's a good start - they were not invited. They have no business parading around Greenland communities in their 4 armoured USA cars, with their security to keep locals away from tourists.

I'm curious what the Danish sniffer dogs will do - sniff around for gun-toting USA tourists?

The Danish sniffer dogs are there to lend an air of menace to the jolly visage of Danish coppers.. they look so harmless that it needs a dog or two to create a sense of drama. I think they are mainly to give well rehearsed snarls at the 4 car loads of USA 'security'.... The Greenlanders themselves are exepected to make their feelings known, in the Greenlander way, that is, by standing still and shouting.. :p

Copenhagen sent in 100 of them, with dogs, ... everyone in Copenhagen is on their best behavior today, until they return... in the meantime, little kids are getting themselves off to school, directing the traffic, without the local constable's escort.

The tariff and USA gov't chaos is hitting the markets! USA recession is on the way.

"The Expectations Index—based on consumers' short-term outlook for income, business, and labor market conditions—dropped 9.6 points to 65.2, the lowest level in 12 years and well below the threshold of 80 that usually signals a recession ahead. The cutoff date for preliminary results was March 19, 2025."

Uh oh.

It's Biden's fault.
It's Obama's fault
It's Hilary's fault.

It's Jeffrey Goldberg's fault

“Consumers are rattled,” said Carl Weinberg, chief economist at High Frequency Economics. “At great personal risk, we will opine that the chaos in Washington has something to do with this. The decline in consumer sentiment since the November election can no longer be written off as a coincidence.”

“Consumers’ optimism about future income ... largely vanished, suggesting worries about the economy and labor market have started to spread into consumers’ assessments of their personal situations,” said Stephanie Guichard, senior economist, global indicators, at the Conference Board.

"The survey’s expectations index, based on consumers’ short-term outlook for income, business and labor market conditions, dropped 9.6 points to 65.2 – the lowest level since March 2013 and well below the threshold of 80 that usually signals a recession ahead. The share of consumers anticipating a recession over the next 12 months held steady at a nine-month high.

'On a six-month moving average basis, purchasing plans for both homes and cars declined. Surprisingly, given the anxiety about the future, intentions to buy big-ticket items—including appliances and electronics—ticked up, which may reflect plans to buy before impending tariffs lead to price increases. Consumers’ overall intentions to purchase additional services in the months ahead were little changed, but their priorities shifted. Fewer consumers planned to spend more on movies and live entertainment or sports, and more planned to spend on outdoor activities and travel. Vacation plans also increased."

So the outlook for houseing and auto purchases is not good but people are spooked enough to buy appliances and electronics in advance of tariffs. That is not good for the economy that Tariff Man is planning for us.
The Liberation Day celebrations may be a bit muted. In words Trump will understand, his new USA show is bombing, badly.

The moment JD Vance said. he didn't want his wife to have all the fun, that he was going to accompany her , that's when Nuuk and Copenhagen said, gloves off, soon as they land and hand you their itinerary, take it, fold it in half and rip it up and give them the Nuuk version of their itinerary, no dogs, no parade, no nuffin, just the base, and that under Greenland police supervision. They can take it or leave it.

Vance has absolutely no idea of how to run the business of getting what you want with diplomacy. None. He is a complete ning nong in all the areas requiring positive results. Everything he does results in the negative.

Every night on MSNBC Rachell Maddow shows protests all over the US. Some are against DOGE/Musk, Tariffs, Veterans Administration and social security messes, privatizing the Post Office, Ukraine, Tesla, etc etc. It’s interesting to me as a senior citizen that the vast majority of demonstrators seem to be seniors. The same at town halls. It will be interesting to see what is going to happen when the government turns on these protesters. It didn’t stop the Vietnam War protests (also my generation), so I have a feeling it won’t stop the old folks now. :)
We did it before we'll do it now! IMO

This is REAL, folks. Google H.R. 1161 It was introduced to the US House of Representatives on Feb 10, 2025

H.R. 1161 — A bill to authorize the President to enter into negotiations to acquire Greenland and to rename Greenland as ‘‘Red, White, and Blueland’’; to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and in addition to the Committee on Natural Resources, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.

By Mr. CARTER of Georgia, H613 [10FE]

As far as I can tell, there are no House Bills, yet, to invade or "aquire" Canada or rename it. o_O
Red White and Blueland?!! Ludacris! Surely this bill will never fly in the House. Right? Right?

Are Republicans foolish enough to vote for this? This is no longer a situation of soothing Trump's ego and keeping him happy. This is war using military force against a sovereign country.

Will the Republicans look at Greenland's wealth and decide that it is more important than respecting borders?

There is no security risk to Greenland. That is propaganda. China is no where near Greenland, Russia is not threatening Greenland. The country is protected by Canada, Denmark and the EU.
It hasn't been sent to the House yet and hopefully never will. It has to be voted on by both the House and the Senate and both are Republican controlled. Maybe the recent security fiasco (read stupidity) will be the catalyst for some Republicans to say enough is enough. Hoping.

Not all bills go through the voting process. Some just fade away.

No one outside the USA can do anything about what's going on with the USA government. The big question is: when is someone in the USA going to do something about their government?

The world is watching in horror as privacy is erased, individual rights are wiped out, due process is ridiculed as "out of control", Venezuelans are persecuted, Canadians and Europeans are detained and imprisoned without a hearing or lawyer, war plans are cheerfully debated and communicated via vulnerable text messaging systems, social infrastructure is eliminated, scientists are silenced ... it's shocking. The end result is predictable. Now is the time for people in the USA to do something. If they wait until they are the victims of their new world order, it will be far too late.

That sounds dramatic, but I don't think it's unrealistic. We've heard this week that students have fled to Canada to avoid USA government persecution. That belongs in a Sci Fi movie, not the news. There may be many more people like that who have had no opportunity to share what is happening to them.

You have made a very good list of some of the horrors going on here in the US. @otto. Usually an authoritarian takeover happens gradually, not in six weeks. Americans are gobsmacked. What is happening here is unprecedented. And you encourage Americans to “do something.”

We are now faced with a president, a vice president and Elon Musk who don’t care about the constitution and laws, a congress who won’t stand up to him (not that it would do any good), and courts who cannot enforce their decisions and are being threatened, as are law firms. We are now living in an authoritarian country and it will get worse. Unfortunately, many Americans do not watch the news and have no idea what is going on. Some never watch it and some don’t want to know what is going on now.

As you know, American people are holding large demonstrations all over the country. But Trump doesn’t care. The minute one of these demonstrations turns violent he will use it as an excuse to take away constitutional rights (see Reichstag Fire 1933). He is an evil man, surrounded by evil assistants and an evil cabinet IMO.

So, I ask you…What do you suggest we do? That is a sincere question.

The USA now wants to protect the entire world with Trump resort in Gaza, Energy Czar in Ukraine, Land owner of Canada, full annexation of Greenland ... what nonsense!

Many countries have threatened Greenland? Like who? USA and ... no one.

Greenland and Denmark are mad!

"Vance: "On behalf of Donald Trump, I would like to say that we will revive the security of the Greenlandic people because we believe it is important to protect the security of the entire world.

Vance: "As you know, many countries have threatened Greenland, and threatened to use Greenland's territory and sea areas to threaten the United States, threaten Canada and of course to threaten the people of Greenland.
...

Member of Parliament and Greenland spokesperson for the Conservative Party, Rasmus Jarlov, writes on X that the US consulate in Nuuk should be closed immediately due to the American intentions to gain control and ownership of Greenland:

- The American consulate in Nuuk must be closed as soon as possible.
...

Fifty Danish officers have now landed in Nuuk, a couple of Hercules C-130 transport planes from The National Guard have landed from Washington with four bulletproof cars, and when I came down from breakfast today, all the conference rooms on the second floor of the city's largest hotel - Hotel Hans Egede - were occupied by "The White House staff office", writes Martin Breum on Facebook and continues

None of this can be happening. Bad movie, beyond bad script from vance.

Interesting that you mention a “bad script from Vance.” Many felt that his words to Zelenskyy in the Oval Office were scripted. Personally, I’m inclined to think that Putin is the script writer.

I don't know much about USA politics, but it sounds like Congress is the only group that can stop Trump. That is where protests need to happen. Peaceful, un-armed, protesters need to get the attention of Congress all day every day and force them to stop the runaway train.

Media blitz is another option. Forget Fox - that is owned by the Whitehouse. CNN is ignored as Democrat. Use twitter and instagram - that's the language of people under age 40. Make noise as loud as Hamas did to gain USA student support for Gaza - that was an organized, structure, targeted social media attack aimed at students. Use the same methods.
