They will have the phone records, with the pings between phone masts to a fairly accurate area, as well as the pings when text was sent if sent via traditional text not WhatsApp/iMessage which is encrypted message wise, although they would still show be able to see who the message was to with either of those. So they wouldn't need to see on CCTV to confirm one of the sisters at the Bridge/Water location sent the message.
I was responding to someone suggesting the message could have been sent by the landlady, to herself. And others just above our comments are talking of coercion regarding the texts. My point was that given we know the police saw the sisters on the CCTV at the exact time the message was sent to the landlord, they would likely be able to see that one or both of them are on their phone as they are on the bridge, corroborating the fact it was them that sent the message, and not anyone else either by having access to the phone, or that they were being forced to send it.

Unless people thing they were coerced, not physically in person.....but not sure how that works and relates to the disappearance.

There is a trafficking problem in the area and coercion can take all sorts of shapes and forms. I'm not saying this is what happened to the sisters, but it does happen and has been happening in Aberdeen.

Understood. I am sure however, since the police have said from the start that there was no criminal elements to this case. They have the CCTV of the ladies on the bridge, right at the time the text message was sent.
I'm certain they can match up the action of someone sending a text, and that they were doing it without anyone else being there in-person forcing them to do it or them handing the phone over to someone else.
Whether they were being coerced by some other means, I suppose could be a possibility.

Sure. Its a live police investigation so anything is still possible at this stage.

If they didn’t send the text message, is it possible that it was sent from a car that was driving over the bridge or nearby?

I think we could all agree that there appears to be elements of planning that have gone into their disappearance, we just don't know what that plan was and if there was only the two of them involved.
I also wonder if police are sure that the phone moved with the sisters from their flat to the bridge area. Does anyone know how accurate the pings would be at tracing an exact route of travel?

I was always under the impression that based on cell towers that they could get a rough estimate of location, rather than anything too exact.
I'm sure I read that the message was traced to have been sent "from the bridge", but whether that was supposed to be more "the area of the bridge", then it's possible they actually sent it when they were down on the path, which it what I would actually expect. When they come to a resting stop rather than actually walking, especially given it was icy that night.

In Scotland, there are an average of 29 water suicides a year. That's roughly one every week and a half.

Out of almost 800 suicides per year, so about 3.5% of suicides in Scotland.

*Our results also confirm that certain individuals who commit suicide by drowning use weights to facilitate the process

*could weights of some sort be contained in their bags?

...re: the text message and the landlady. the only red flag I've seen is because I can't find any article giving us the complete text in quotes. The text has been paraphrased in all I've seen.

I doubt they'd release the exact wording. It might say something they don't think needs to be released.

This isn't being treated as a crime and it was a private text so it really doesn't seem necessary to reveal everything. JMO.

The imaging from their previous visit looks like they have walked back over the bridge from the Torry side or they have emerged from the embankment up onto the pavement on the side nearest the City Centre. It is interesting that they have used the CCTV image from this side rather than the Torry side. I wonder if they had been somewhere else in Torry and not along the side of the river on the path that leads to the boat club.
