What was the tide level in Aberdeen at the time they were last seen ? was it high tide ? (I can't find a table that goes back in time)

According to that site:

Low - 00:21 - 1.07 meters
High - 06:53 - 3.70 meters
Low - 12:35 - 1.61 meters
High - 18:55 - 3.96 meters

Still have a gut feeling they have disappeared voluntarily. The police won’t I imagine offer a reward for information leading to finding them though as they believe they are in the river?
I think that's correct. The police seem very assured about that belief. It's very sad, these women seem to have lived low-key, self-contained lives and yet find themselves the objects of a scrutiny that is very much at odds with that.

The brother of two missing sisters from Aberdeen has said that the pair “never mentioned” a plan to move out of their flat prior to their disappearance.

Their brother described them as cautious people, who always talked decisions through with each other and their mother, with whom they were very close and spoke to at least weekly, if not daily.

In their statement, the family of the missing sisters said: “This has been a very worrying and upsetting time for our family. “We are really worried about Eliza and Henrietta and all we want is for them to be found. “If you think you might have any information which could help the police with finding Eliza and Henrietta then please pass this on as quickly as you can.

“We appreciate all the support our family has been given over the past few days and we would like our privacy to be respected at this time.”

Yes and I feel some guilt for the intrusion. Talking about it here I mean .

The police have information that is not in the public domain and they appear to be pretty certain that the twins are in the river.
In other cases where the police have stated that they believe someone is in the river they have proven to be correct.
However much we would like a scenario where the two women are found alive it does not align with the information the police obviously have.

The tide was at a similar level as it is in these photos. Seeing that there is CCTV at the right hand boat houses, I don’t think they made it that far round. Having looked at the area, to get into the water at 1.7-2m tide would actively require you to go into the water, not a slip or a fall. Even in slippy snowy/icy conditions. The water edge is some what away from the path.

Yep, I think a slip or fall can be ruled out. Is it likely they have gone into the river in the area near the first stairs?

It does seem there are spots that would have been a bit riskier in that weather. The answer is likely in whatever was found in that living space and I hope whatever it was gives enough confidence to the family to find some kind of peace in knowing what happened without any what ifs left behind.

Their landlord shared concerns after finding many of the twins personal possessions inside the property. The twins also took only one of their phones out with them and left the other in the flat when they disappeared. Their brother Jozsef told the BBC that the family were completely unaware about them leaving one phone behind and added everything appeared normal.

"We don't understand this whole thing," he said. "That they wrote a message to their landlady, that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn't have any information about that. So that's the strange thing, that the girls didn't tell us anything about that."

He said the sisters, who were two of triplets, did not share any financial issues with the family and had, in fact, been saving up to buy their own property. The sister's other triplet Edit Huszti said she spoke to her sisters on New Year's Eve and that they appeared in good spirit.

That’s with the tide totally in. It is quite a bit away from the edge when it is out, like it pretty much was at 2-3am.

In answer to your question- we really do not know that they were actual homebodies. Their family members in another country far away thought they were. That doesn’t mean they didn’t regularly stay out late or go out late at night on occasion.
Obviously they did go out late on the fateful night they went missing.
There may have been other weeknights when they took late strolls or went out for a late night snack. Maybe they did this regularly or maybe only a couple of times a year.
Aberdeen is considered a safe city. Europeans/ ladies alone or with friends (depending on the city) often walk late at night with no fear - unlike cities in the US.

Along the next bridge over (Wellington Road) there are several “all night” places open including a coffee shop and an all night grocery/ sundry store. (Londis & Wild Bean Cafe)
Another poster mentioned her late night searches for chocolate and such- it was a great post.
They could well have gone out for a late night stroll to get a snack or something one of the sisters was craving.
I think that this was an innocent adventure that ended up with some confusion on the parts of the girls and a tragic accident after they took a wrong turn and one of them took a fall and the second sister was unable to rescue the first.
Maybe they had been drinking before they went out. Maybe they simply were confused as to which area they were in after they were walking and talking for a while. They apparently only had one phone with them but maybe they didn’t pull it out to navigate the streets.
I just think that a tragic accident happened.
They may have been confused after crossing the Victoria Road bridge when they were intending to be one bridge over in the Wellington Road area for their snack/ errand.
All imho
As a local I can assure you no one would go that way looking for a snack. They live in the City Centre and will be aware of what's open all hours IN THE CITY. Crossing the Victoria Bridge in to Torry is not the City Centre. This is where local knowledge is essential because some theories are beyond wild.

I understand. The ground is very unstable there with one or two wrong steps. The water wouldn’t have been right there, I follow.
