Ahhhh-Det. Lancaster met with bio mom and step-dad yesterday. He summed up step-dad's character with some of the same phrases you all are using:rolleyes:. He finds it very telling that step-dad is very unconcerned about the whole situation.

For some background-Tawni made it a practice to date and have friends outside of her race. Some of her family took issue with it-her step-father took it to a whole 'nother level. He was flat out bigoted apparently. If you are familiar with the area where he was from, you will understand it-very blue collar irish....very rigid in their belief system. And by all accounts, the man has a temper and is not afraid to express himself by any means at hand.

Unfortunately, if he had a hand in Tawni's desire to get out of the house because of him possibly abusing her, not much can be done about it now. From a prosecution perspective, anyway. Now, we can hate his guts all we want!!!

Mike spoke with Shaine for a while yesterday, and became completely unglued by Shaine's unvarnished account of Tawni's injuries. Mike has had a troubled life himself including a recent unsuccessful suicide attempt. Christine asked me to candidly post these facts and what we are doing for Mike so that we can develop a template for future cases...

I received a call from Mike this morning, and he was clearly still intoxicated. He expressed some thoughts and ideas that were disquieting so I contacted Det. Lancaster and asked him for the name of a victim's advocate to refer Mike to. The detective said he would take care of it and would give the info to Mike-he already set Tawni's mother up with someone.

Unfortunately, Tawni's mother has STILL not reached out to her son, and has not seen him in spite of being in Phoenix since Saturday. A big part of this is the step father, Brian. Brian has been making all of his terrible statements regarding Tawni to both Mike and Tawni's mother....I have heard from both.

WS's part in Tawni's case is limited to helping LE get what they need and seeing if we can help Tawni receive some justice. We do not advocate ourselves and of course there is a need here for professional help which is beyond the scope of what I can provide.

Thank you for sharing this information, believe. I'll go ahead and agree with everyone who has said it and say this step father probably drove a big wedge between Tawni's mother and her children. I understand what you mean in being limited on what we can do here, and you yourself have done so much for that family, thank you for assisting Mike with that. and thank you for serving to educate us so that we are all on the same page.

Jeez, this is an absolute mess. Do you think that Deb is an abused wife? Emotionally, obviously, but also perhaps physically. That's the only thing I can think of why he would have so much control over her.

I'm really disappointed about Deb and Mike not seeing each other. Normally, when such a tragedy occurs in the family, broken families willl unite. I hope that Deb and Mike realize that at least they can still have each other and that it's not too late...unless it is. Very, very sad.

Having worked with families in domestic violence situations, mom/brother may not have sought out Tawni because she/he was thankful (hopeful) that she "got away".

Another thing I had thought of for a long time is that if someone were sexually abusing her it would be in their best interest to not risk coming forward to identify her. If there were injuries (sexual or not) consistent with long term abuse, someone would be asking questions.

None of this may help in prosecution for WW &/or LDJ, but I would like to figure out how we might have reached someone who could have identified her sooner. Knowing more about her environment could only help us figure out who we could have been connecting with earlier.

More perspective, if you are not all burned out yet, lol:

Tammy, Deb's sister, was the one who reached out to WS initially when Mike called all of them to look at the ME website, 99-0305. Neither Tammy, or her brother Mark who is also a sibling of Deb's, have called Deb. And she has not spoken to them.

They are all on their own track-Tammy and company have been making funeral arrangements in Lynn, MA, Deb is having the body cremated to take Tawni home to GA and Mike has made plans to scatter Tawni's ashes over a Colorado mountain range that she loved. WTH???

According to LE, this is frequently the case-most of these families are divided which is why everyone loses track of one another and no one has the whole story.

Deb's family is estranged from her because of her husband Brian and they have never believed that she did everything that she could do to find Tawni.

Deb is estranged from her family, she says, because they are "too into their own drama and they never look outside of themselves. And OH MY GOD, my mother is a crazy person!" Grandma Jacobsen lives with Tammy and Mark in Lynn.

Mike is estranged from his mother because of Brian's interactions with Tawni and his father because the guy never had any interest in his children. The only family member Mike talks to is his Uncle Marky in Lynn, MA...Deb's brother.

Are you ready for the quiz yet???

Well, i guess never mind with the Cleaver family reunion....doesn't sound like it's going to happen. It doesn't sound like mom had much control over Tawni and I am wondering if she was glad that Tawni was gone. Please no one hate me for saying this as this is just another scenario I'm rehashing. The reason I say this is because growing up, my mother was always very jealous of me. For what reason, I have no idea. My mom had a boyfriend who did inappropriate things to me yet let him back in the house, however, I think she knew he was attracted to me (yuck). I moved out. I was 13. She used to pay my friends' parents to take care of me. My mom was quite okay with me not being there. She even went as far as marrying my ex-boyfriend...that's a whole other story though!
So what I'm saying is maybe step-dad had "feelings" for Tawni and mom sensed it or maybe it was even known. Maybe there was some inapproriateness going on (not on Tawni's part). Tawni was a beautiful girl. Maybe mom was happier with Tawni being gone. No competition anymore. When you told us what the sted-dad said about her "whoring" around, I immediately thought he's saying that because he could never have her. I'm assuming there was anger in his words as well. i don't know. I do know anything's possible but something just doesn't feel right to me. Maybe that's also why Tawni was attracted to guys of a different race. They weren't like her stepdad. Again, there's something else going on. IMHO.

This is just my speculation as to how it relates to the investigation...So, for those of you who know more about the family than I do, please say "no way" "maybe" "i thought that too" you get the point, right? I wonder if Brian arranged for her to be gone for good. Depending on who he knew and what he was capable of...kwim?

Are you saying that Mike wasn't close to his dad either? That big Mike (the dad) didn't have an interest in his children??

Yes-they had not seen each other for almost 20 years.

What friend??

The friend's house that Tawni had been at the night before, where she supposedly met Lindsey. The one Mom says she knew and knew the parents.

Oh believe, this just pains me for everyone involved more. Thank you so much for going above and beyond with requesting Det. L help members of Tawni's family. Boy what a mess. You have really been through a lot with this and I imagine it must be somewhat difficult to have the family leaning on you in so many ways other than our purpose here at WS. If there is anything I can do for you, please ask. You really need a breather. :blowkiss:

Mom has used two names with me-hopefully the police report from Scottsdale might have the actual name....the name mom has mentioned most frequently is Tawni's friend Shaniqua. (sp?)

FGS! I don't want to bash the family.....necessarily. BUT, there appear to be many reasons why Tawni was so rebellious. Not the least of which was her pig of a stepfather! I don't have the feeling that he was abusing her sexually. If he had been, I believe he would have searched to the ends of the earth to find her and bring her back. Sounds to me like he was happy to be rid of her and either forced her mom to feel the same or she felt the same way on her own. How many times on these boards have we read about children suffering directly because their mothers chose some [link removed] over her own babies? Every day.

I'm not going to cut Deb any slack at all. She let her own 17 Y/O daughter walk out the door and get into a car with COMPLETE strangers, then moved away and, evidently, never looked back. AND, she seems to have FAMILY she could to go if she needed to - who appear to care more about Tawni than she does! I'm disgusted by the entire story. Tawni - no matter her behavioral issues - was a child. At this point, it seems she was failed at every possible turn. Damn them all!:furious:

Oh man. I'm so sorry. It amazes me when young people are able to free themselves from such bad childhoods. Good for you :blowkiss:

And about the step-Dad's "whoring around" comment. I knew a f***ed up family one time that had 3 pretty girls and a controlling father. He was so bad that he would unhook things on the car so the Mom couldn't go anywhere. He drowned their cats kittens because he was jealous of the attention they got. He molested each girl, and when each one went through puberty and started menstruating, he called them 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and kicked them out. They were of no use to him anymore. They could get pregnant now.
Maybe that's what the "🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" comment was from step-dad. She was seeing guys and having boyfriends and he was jealous. He had to SHARE her. sick sick sick sick sick but possible.

~snip~ from Auburn -I wonder if Brian arranged for her to be gone for good. Depending on who he knew and what he was capable of...

I seriously would not be a bit surprised if step dad was a part of it. Not a bit surprised. It is just too out of the ordinary for Tawni to be missing, and a young girl is thrown from a window on the freeway. You know this story had to had to had to be splashed all over the t.v. and newspapers in Phoenix WHERE BRIAN AND DEB LIVED ! ! ! ! !!! And they conveniently move away. Huh? Maybe Mom was on it too. See Above scenario of Lucy'sMom. Maybe Deb wanted Tawni out of the way too. If anyone has an issue I'm sorry - Hey it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Adnoid quote; I will be in Denver next week on business 9/3 to 9/7 if for some reason he wants to meet in person. I have no idea why he would want to, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Oh that'd be great if he'd meet you. But I bet he doesn't have the balls.

And Fairy, I'm with you. They deserve NOOOOOOOOOO slack. Mom won't even see her own son, she hasn't seen in 20 years and she's just found out her daughter has been killed. How fecked is that! In just the tiny tidbit that we know about Tawni's homelife we understand why she ran away. And we only know a spec of it. Poor little Tawni Lee. Oh there's a special special place for alllllllll the people involved and the ones who are at fault BY DEFAULT TOO DEB AND MIKE SR. I am pissed beyond words.
