Remains belonging to missing French boy found in the Alps

Ramblers discovered the bones of two-year-old Émile Soleil close to the isolated family home from here he went missing last year.

A statement released by public prosecutors in Aix-en-Provence on Sunday said 'genetic analysis identifies' the bones as belonging to Èmile.

It added that 'criminalistic analysis' was also underway, and that gendarmes were carrying out 'additional research' in the area where they were found.

The search site is two miles as the crow flies from the house in Haut-Vernet, a hamlet south of Grenoble, where Émile was last seen with his grandfather, Philippe Vedovini, 58.

He was two and a half but yes, there have been cases here where toddlers walked even further.

Tragic update on missing Emile as remains found months after he vanished

From the link above, “a walker alerted police during a hike”.

Could simply be that Emile wandered off, though you’d think with the scale of the searches that took place, any areas the boy could have wandered would have been scoured previously.

Also, being that the village is quite isolated, would a hiker be more likely to be someone from the area? Or maybe a vacationer, in which case they may have been hiking more ‘off the beaten path’ so to speak, could explain why Emile wasn’t found earlier.

According to the mayor of Vernet, François Balique, the area where Emile's bones were found had "been thoroughly searched by the gendarmes", he told Le Figaro. “It’s a place where hunters and their dogs and residents pass daily and where forestry work was carried out in the fall,” he said, suggesting that if the body had been there from the beginning, it would inevitably have been discovered before."

I'm pretty sure his bones were moved not so long ago. It's not possible, after all the time and with all those resources that they had, that they didn't find him earlier.
No way he could have just ondered off and he was there since july. NO WAY.

I don't suppose any authorities would want to admit that the area where little Emile was found was not searched because they thought he couldn't have walked that far.

I would have thought the authorities would also be searching areas where someone else could have taken Emile.

They did so much to find him, I can't believe they didn't check that particular place. I can't remember the exact perimeter around which they looked for him, but I think they went kinda far.

There have been a few cases in Australia, one was a child where the child was found further than LE said they could possibly be so they had not searched that far.

Could they have checked the area well, but he was hidden, under a bush/foliage/etc?
(Thinking of the recent case, Ashley T. An adult, the woods near her car were well-searched, but she was there the whole time. Likely hidden by snow during earlier searches.) JMO.

No link with the reconstruction carried out on Thursday.

The discovery did not take place during the simulation organized two days earlier, a source close to the matter told franceinfo. Thursday, 17 members of the child's family, as well as neighbors and witnesses, were gathered in Haut-Vernet to retrace the day of the disappearance.

What a terrible shame after the tremendous search efforts they all put in..

animals could have moved him.. shame there are only partial remains..

Wondering if his remains were dragged or moved there by wildlife — especially since only partial remains were found.

Would this be consistent with him actually died somewhere else and wildlife had move it? I would imagine it being quite easy for a large bird of prey to grab his little body and take it who knows where.
