@schindy

Both Arbery parents just left courtroom
CORRECTION: Wanda Cooper Jones moved to a different seat, but she is still in the courtroom. Marcus Sr. left

I cannot believe they are using this self defense.

I don't know about GA (I'm a CA attorney), but you can only use self defense with the amount of force that is being used against you. AA didn't have a gun, so he now is using excessive force in self defense.

ETA: I'm screaming NO at the TV with this self defense BS.

Don't blame them whatsoever. I've stopped watching because it's intolerable to listen to this man smear AA & blame him for his own murder.

Objection by Prosecution. He is mounting a self defense defense. Justifiable force argument being made, Prosecution having none of it.

I stand corrected with the law they put on the screen. I guess GA is different.

Wait until you hear Gough, who almost certainly is going to say Roddy was terrified that AA was trying to carjack/assault him.

I know nothing about Gough, but you make it sound like its going to be a joke.

Oh no, definitely not a joke whatsoever. Rather, horrifying & vile.

Gough is quite the character. I might need a cocktail by the time he does his opening. This guy is bad enough. Gough very much enjoys hearing himself pontificate. Once he starts I anticipate things are going to get heated.

#AhmaudArbery - All defendants and attorneys are in the courtroom. No family members of Arbery yet. Gregory McMichael's wife in seated.

Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael & William "Roddie" Bryan sit at their counsel tables listening to the judge instruct the jurors. Opening statements about to begin.
Travis.jpg Greg.jpg Bryan.jpg

Judge ruled this morning that the jury can see the vanity plate on the McMichaels' truck.

Judge ruled this morning that Arbery's probation status will not be admissible in trial.

The 15 jurors are spreadout for social distancing. Some are in the jury box and some on one side of the gallery. Therefore, we'll have camera angles like this so the camera doesn't catch a juror.

Prosecutor Linda Dunikoski is delivering the opening statements for the state.

#LarryEnglish the owner of the property the defense will argue #AhmaudArbery robbed. Will not testify but his deposition, which was recorded will be played. English was concerned about kids inside the construction site so he set up cameras but nothing was every stolen there.

Correction. #English says things were stolen from his boat, where it was kept on his dock.

Prosecutor says that #LarryEnglish, the owner of the property called a few months (December 2019) before the death of #AhmaudArbery that a White couple caught a white couple that may have stolen from them

December 19, 2019 at 220 Satilla Drive #AhmaudArbery is seen on different camera angles walking in and out of the property not stealing or damaging anything. English calls an off duty cop to call the police, but before he does #AhmaudArbery jogs off.

January 1, 2020, #TravisMcMichael’s handgun is stolen from his unlocked car. Unsolved crime. No evidence that #AhmaudArbery did it

State opening: On Feb. 23, 2020 a witness saw Arbery in the English home that was under construction, there's video from across the street. When 911 asks the caller what Arbery is doing wrong, they repond, "running down the street".

Prosecutor refers to #GregoryMichael’s decisions as “driveway decisions”
#DriveDecision 1… he only sees #AhmaudArbery running down the street, not in the home. “Greg assumed the worse, he had no immediate knowledge Arbery was in the house”

Prosecutor drilling down on the fact that he asks #AhmaudArbery “Where are you — where you running from? What are you doing” suggesting he didn’t know what had happened

Prosecutor moves on to what #WilliamBryan did. Bryan has a “night owl system” that turns on when there is activity on the porch. Bryan is on the porch so it’s on… #Bryan sees #Arbery run from the #McMichaels and “he just joins in”

#AhmaudArbery's mother, Wanda Cooper Jones, crying as the state plays the video of Ahmaud being killed. Arbery's father walked out out of the courtroom and said, "I don't want to see that."

Gough is representing Mr. Bryan?

Wait until you hear Gough, who almost certainly is going to say Roddy was terrified that AA was trying to carjack/assault him.

I'm thinking he's going to try and paint Roddie out as some frail guy who's afraid of his own shadow.

  • #773
Gough has from the very beginning in court (probable cause hearing) & outside court (news conferences, etc) painted Roddy as, quote, a "patriot" who did what any real American would do in the same situation. And that for doing so he was victimized by AA, who Gough has already claimed in court, went after him & the truck, trying to carjack him.

I wonder what the Coast Guard manual says about guns being left in unlocked cars.

  • #778
Has anyone else ever watched a trial with multiple defendants AND multiple counsel? I haven't, and am really curious: what the jury makes of it, and how each defendant's interests are equally represented & defended, given at least several points of divergence. (Most notably, Roddy's accusation that Travis stood over AA as he lay dying in the street & called him the N word).

  • #779
Oh gosh, I realize who Gough is now.

  • #780
Because it makes perfect sense that AA's escape plan was to haul 🤬🤬🤬 further into the neighborhood, rather than to run the few hundreds of yards to his left to exit SShores.
