GM's defense attorney was so offensive with her victim-blaming. I didn't expect any of the defense attorneys to be any more offensive than I'd thought Gough would be, but she definitely won the award for uncalled-for and completely non-relevant commentary today. Goodness knows I rarely wear socks with my shoes when I am outside exercising (too darned hot in NE FL / SE GA most of the time), I don't get pedicures, and one could often call my toenails long, and dirty, too (the nature of sandal-wearing in the South). That doesn't make me a lesser person, and it didn't make AA one either. How scummy GM's attorney turned out to be!

She has toe jam, too. Don't let her fool you.

I can't even. Who wants to endure such disgusting commentary? And in a court of law. The audacity. JMO.

have to agree. I never in a million years would have imagined that Laura Hogue could possibly be more offensive that Kevin Gough, but she managed to do so. Some of what came out of her mouth was reprehensible.

Hogue called Arbery a "recurring nighttime intruder," alleging he had been to the house at least four times before.

"Ahmaud Arbery was not an innocent victim plundering through Larry English's house on February 23" or the other occasions he visited the home, Hogue said.

[snip]

"(Arbery) died because for whatever inexplicable, illogical reason -- instead of staying where he was -- whatever overwhelming reason he had to avoid being captured that day and arrested by the police, he chose to fight," Hogue said.

Ahmaud Arbery killing trial: Attorneys deliver closing arguments in case of jogger's shooting - CNN

"We don't know what went wrong in his young life to bring #AhmaudArbery in his khaki shorts, with no socks to cover his long, dirty toenails."

the BBM is direct quote that I cannot unhear. What a dreadful, disgusting approximation of a human Ms. Hogue is for this comment.

How did she know that he had long dirty toenails? Did they take his shoes off?

@SamBrockNBC

“That was just beyond rude. Regardless of what kind of toenails he had, what size legs he had, that was still my son. And my son was actually running for his life.” Wanda Cooper-Jones…#AhmaudArbery’s Mom, reacts to comments made in court today by defense atty.
@NBCNightlyNews

I hope this comment puts the nail in the coffin of her client: she is truly despicable.

During the ME testimony, one of the defense attorneys brought it up to the ME.

Why are TM’s attorneys doing an interview now on CourtTV…before closings are even finished.

The toe nail comment...was beyond disgusting. They are trying to throw out the human being, make him somehow not worthy of living─to condone murder.

Wait. He said RB was being guided by "God or some other entity."

Uhm, Satan maybe? Just saying...

Lady Justice may wear white tinted glasses among the living in the USA, but Satan does not discriminate based on skin color; all of the damned are welcome to rot in Hell for eternity.

Hi all . I haven’t followed any of this trial at all so only know the background story & not the facts . Are you all at a unanimous decision on a verdict in here ?
Thanks

Maybe they (was it more than one person?) were trying to indirectly refute the jogger narrative. jmo

eta: reading the whole quote, I'm personally sure that's what she was doing. jmo

"Turning Ahmaud Arbery into a victim after the choices that he made, does not reflect the reality of what brought Ahmaud Arbery to Satilla Shores in his khaki shorts, with no socks to cover his long, dirty toenails," Hogue said.

Do you have to have well manicured toenails to be a jogger? IMO, she was trying to dehumanise him.

That's what I think also. And I'd like to see these toenails because, for one, maybe he just missed a week of clipping. Two, maybe what's long to her might not be long to some, and three, like you said, long toenails -- and certainly not dirty toenails -- have nothing to do with jogging.

I have seen some men with some raggedy feet, let me tell you, but that didn't mean they weren't running 5Ks. Well, actually, and women for that matter. And I will say that right now -- today -- I could NOT be considered a victim, I guess, because I have not been to the nail shop for like a month.

She was/is trying to paint him as unstable and pathological. They couldn't get his mental health history in.....this was her best effort to do more than dehumanize him. She wanted to paint him as odd, strange, and scary.

Not wearing socks and a child molester running him into a ditch might have contributed to dirt under his toenails.

I have long thin feet with long thin toes. A friend of mine tells me that my toenails are long if you can see any growth at all. My toenails, especially my big toes grow right to the end of my toe. She has squat, wide feet with short toes and almost half her toe is not covered by nail.

Who is the child molester?
