When I first typed my post, that was my thought. But then I thought of attacks against African Americans in our lifetimes, bombings of houses of worship, assassinations of leaders like MLK. Attacks on LGBTQ is nothing new.

Something about the mean-spirited atmosphere does feel new. I guess we were taught, true or not, that Americans valued the "mixed pot" of different people agreeing to respect democracy, and now it seems like the message is "other Americans are the enemy."

I am concerned about D.A. Willis and staff in Fulton County and I am VERY concerned that people will decline from pursuing careers in pubic service and we'll be left with the dregs.

I have never seen, heard nor read about so much hatred for others in my life. People are all on edge it seems 24/7 and even the common courtesies are few and far between.
Everybody's exhausted from the constant barrage of unnecessary conflict and vitriol coming from all directions.
We are all just people longing for a sense of community and safety to raise our children and live our lives.

I follow the wise credo of never discussing religion, politics or money with family or friends.

However, I cannot tell you how many times in the last 7 years I have bitten my tongue and refused to be baited by people whom I love who are full-on MAGA and have no filters when ridiculing me for being vaccinated or voting blue.

I don’t put political stickers on my car or signs outside my house because I have a very real fear of vandalism. (I live in the reddest of red) Holidays with family have become unbearable.

My husband and I may stay home this Christmas-it’s that bad.

And then there’s Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, a strongly principled adult. Not involved in this case, but a heartening contrast to Trump.

A once normal thing like getting a flu shot which I mentioned at a local hobby group was met with pitying eyes and a lecture on "falling for what I've been told" and finding my information from the "wrong" place.

By that they meant the ABC, our national broadcaster.

By the way according to them, Covid is a hoax.
Out of the blue on another day, someone whispered to me that climate change is a hoax.

And yes it seems the worst of them are Trump fans.
They have really hard hearted views on everything.

Hugs to you all, and thank you for standing strong. I have had similar experiences with being instantly flooded with hate for "simple" things such as getting vaccinated against Covid or standing with my loved ones who are LGBTQ+. It's exhausting but it's good to be reminded that others are out there standing for truth, love, justice and peace. It makes me feel like there may just be hope yet. IMO

I am also so sorry to hear that Ms. Willis and others are continuing to face threats, for simply doing their jobs. MOO

This, exactly. If you ask any of my friends within the LGBTQ community, specifically my trans friends, they can tell you just how violent and mean-spirited other Americans can be, unfortunately. MOO
This is just that feeling but on a wider scale.
