This may be a case to keep an eye on. North Salem NY is almost a straight shot from Putnam County - get on I-20 and then I-95 (922 mi or 13+ hours). This happened in a wealthy area. This was home of elderly couple where husband (88) apparently was not home at time. No signs of forced entry, nothing missing except a small fire extinguisher.

The hilltop home at the 300-acre Windswept Farm in North Salem, N.Y., where Lois Colley, 83, was beaten to death this week.

Thanks for the heads-up on this case, watcher9. Wow -- I don't expect there to be any connection to the Dermond case, realistically, but when I first read that the husband in that case made his fortune through fast-food franchises, well ...it did make me sit up and take notice.

Someone over in the thread for Mrs. Colley posted something to the effect that he/she felt that it wouldn't take long to solve that crime. Likely that poster is correct...BUT I'm sure some had that feeling about the Dermond murders, too, to start off with ...and look where it stands today.

One thing the two cases certainly do have in common -- just a real sadness, that people in that season of life lost their lives to such violence.

Many of us are still following this extremely sad case. An elderly couple living in an upscale, gated community, would be at very low risk of being brutally murdered. I still maintain that the perp or perps had something to gain. Perhaps they were hired? Do we know if anything was stolen? :twocents:

Greene County Georgia Sheriff's Office
Government Organization

The Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a report of two police impersonators operating in Greene County. According to a citizen who lives on Walker Church Road, two plain clothed "Detectives" came to her house yesterday (Nov. 19th) to talk with her about recent burglaries in the area. The "Detectives" wore Polo shirts and blue jeans and quickly flashed a badge. They went on to tell her that 4 black males were wanted in connection with recent burglaries on her road. They asked her several times if she was home alone which made her uneasy, however, they left soon afterwards. The subjects were driving a gold Tahoe.

The two subjects were not employees of the Sheriff's Office.
Suspect 1: White male, 6'0, medium build with glasses. Red Polo shirt and light blue jeans.
Suspect 2: White male, 6'0, medium build with sandy blonde hair. White Polo with dark blue jeans.
The Sheriff's Office does have employees that at times investigate crimes while wearing plain clothes, but they will also be in possession of a Greene County Sheriff's Office identification card and will prominently display their badge. You have the right to ask to see these credentials from any of our employees that come to your home.

If you have any information concerning the identities of these two individuals or feel that you may have interacted with them in a similar situation, please call Sgt. Lee Stancill at 706-453-3351 x308 or at 706-523-6468.

Thanks for sharing.
Walker Church Rd is not far from the Dermonds' home. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this a break in the case.
Reminded me of your previous post, Foxfire. "They wouldn't (know if there were security cameras) unless they had visited the Dermond property on a reconnaissance mission before, imo. Imo, this was a very well planned and meticulously executed crime that began long before May 2, 2014.."

I wonder if there really had been any burglaries in the neighborhood?
Also, wonder what they would have done if they had found no one at home?
Is gold an unusual color for a Tahoe? Maybe they could trace them that way?

I agree here who had most to gain buy this couples death?
Esp for them BOTH to be killed.

Maybe Shirley was a witness and could identify the perp(s), therefore she was murdered as well?
The same with Russell, if she was taken first, maybe he was a witness and could identify the person(s)?
IMOO.

I think this person went there to murder both of them.

I agree. And it was planned to dump Shirley's body to throw off the investigation (they never intended for her to be found) and they knew they would behead Mr. D.

Every time I see this thread in 'Today's Posts', I'm so hopeful that the perp(s) has(have) been apprehended. So sad we have no closure in this case

Same here. Mr. & Mrs. Dermond are who brought me to WS and I will always be waiting to see the big ARREST at the top of their thread.

Aren't we all? This is one of those horrible, senseless, wicked crimes, that I want so much to be solved.

And an OT -- so glad that you've stuck around and helped out with other discussions.

Across the lake from the Dermonds, in the same county as her body was found.........wow, this sounds promising, I do believe you mentioned something of this nature in the past being a possiblity, given this had to be planned in advance what better way to case the joint........so they can't hang around GW as they may be ID'D, but these guys must be from 'round here......bet they've been fishing at the dam many many times by LS Boat ramp. Thanks for the update!

'If the motive for the murders of the Dermonds were for financial gain, it is unlikely that Mrs D, would have been transported miles away and dumped into lake oconee anchored down with cinder blocks. Although she was found a week and half later by unsuspecting fishermen. If she had snagged on a tree limb near the lake bottom, she may have never been located. This would have likely delayed
financial settlements for years, imo'..

Son of Putnam victims blames cult for mom’s disappearance...

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said his investigators are almost done processing the home of Russell and Shirley Dermond for clues.

“We are still today dusting for fingerprints and we’re doing kind of a final wrap-up today of this home,” said Sills.

Channel 2’s Richard Elliot spoke on the phone with the Dermond’s son Keith. He’s in Jacksonville, Fla. He didn’t want to be recorded, but did talk about what the past two weeks have been like for his family.

“Not too good as you might imagine, this is a worse nightmare then we could have ever dreamed up,” said Keith Dermond.

The last time anyone ever saw Russell Dermond alive was at a Lake Oconee Publix exactly two weeks ago. Investigators believe someone killed him either that night, or sometime the next day.

Keith Dermond doesn’t believe someone specifically targeted his parents for this brutal crime. He believes it’s random, maybe the work of a cult.

Wonder where he got that scenario idea
?

'I've always lived by the philosophy of study long, study wrong, dancinunderthemoon'.. I feel that there is a specific reason for Keith Dermond's statement and theory.' I also feel that the strange phone calls that he received soon after the murders may also be significant, and may shed light on why he came to this conclusion.. Wished Sheriff Sills would be asked by reporters, what the specifics of these phone calls were, and the interpretation or meaning of Keith Dermond's statement..

So maybe those mysterious phone calls somehow implied or suggested it or someone else he spoke with? Or whomever else he may have initially speak with about the mysterious murders may have insinuated, implied or suggested such........Seems reasonable to think that a police impersonator may have made it to their door. Funny I had the windstream tech out last week, the operator told me his arrival would be between 8 am and 7 pm. My first hougth of course was this was a rediculous narrowing but my second thought was, if someone shows up after dark, Im either not answering the door or I'm going to answer with my gun in tow..........he never showed, the next day, the tech showed, in our discussion on the size required of broadband, asked did I live alone..............Scary thought and it made me think of the Dermonds as many have suggested before, a tech, deliveryman of some sort and of course the impersonator scenario...............I have distrusted more since the Dermond murders. Praying the 2 police impersonators are located but probably not likely, as in this case, they make a mistake or unless someone talks

Yes, I am sure that folks in that area are much more aware, cautious, and less trusting since the Dermond murders, dancinunderthemoon. Better safe than sorry..
I posted on the GCSO facebook page requesting an update on the possible police impersonators. Guessing that this is a possible lack of communications, or some overzealous PI's chasing the large Dermond reward money.. At least I hope it is..
