The Dermonds were old and couldn't have been involved in much that would make anyone angry enough to brutalize them in such a way. I don't buy the theory that someone waited decades to take revenge on them for a past indiscretion. To me, it all comes down to money and someone who was impatient.

BINGO! That's my thoughts exactly.

Yep. This case is getting so cold and old, I'm sure this has been discussed before: a person who was impatient with the Dermonds not passing into the great beyond sooner certainly could have hired the murders done. I do think that's easier said than done, though, especially if your're just a "regular" person who might not have a lot of shady "friends."

Watch this interview especially about 3 minutes in and see SS fidgeting with his pen. He is trying real hard not to blurt something out. Lots of the interview he is looking down when most would be looking directly at the interviewer. I just think he wanted to say who did this

SS said.........self preservation or extortion

What needs preserving?

So what is there to preserve? We only need look at our life to see/find the answer. We need to protect and maintain all the things that we have achieved in life.

and also, in regards to any struggle........due to her hair in his hand, there was ATLEAST 2 people there, one pulling her away from him

hired hitmen......I don't see anyone, ANYONE doing this but for gain and there was no visible gain AT THE CRIME SCENE......sometimes things are simpler than they appear

how psycopaths can blend, this man is IN PRISON, he appears that even now, nothing is wrong, he talks and chats and laughs as if it's a day in the park, yet he murdered probably 100 plus women over 5 states OR MORE......you think you know someone but you may be looking at or talking to a murderer or serial killer, this guy disguised himself VERY WELL in society in UT in the Mormon community blending in being charming

but listen to them, they have no reaction to heinousness

youtube……...ted bundy phone interview...….nothing about these poor women, all about him, shallow, shallow emotions

A year after the Dermonds were murdered there was another elderly man murdered and beheaded and his head also has not been found. Robert Hollis of Inglewood,Ca and there have been no updates since the month of his murder, no suspects , nothing stolen, no evidence left behind so they say. SS has never mentioned this murder yet they are very similar very very similar . Could this be a serial killer? I guess it's possible. I wonder if SS even knows about this murder since there wasn't much news about it

I'd had a thought that perhaps one of the perps wasn't as strong as the other, and could barely help with Mrs. D, let alone Mr. D.'s body. Thus, taking evidence with the head and not the rest of him. Another thought was that maybe one of the perps, at least, had a softer spot for Mrs. D. Why would I think that? Not any one thing, but she didn't have her head cut off. I've also always wondered if one perp killed Mr. D and the other perp hit the Mrs. over the head. I still think it was probably a gun shot for Mr. D., but why not for Mrs. D.? Other things are just some gut feelings going way back. I DO know if either perp knew either of the D's, and I think one or both did, I sure wouldn't want them to have a soft spot for me- pure, pure evil, whoever they are.

You bring up some very good points, Tripod. The possibility, one of the perps was female, having a soft spot in her heart for Mrs. D, but having her eye on the prize $$$. Could this be the same female who was untruthful with SS?

IMHO

Thanks for posting this, dancin. Forgot what a smug, little, sociopath he was. So glad FL took care of this problem.

YW..ME TOO Wilde! Its scary to think how nice someone can be who is behind the scenes killing folks! It's not always the quiet or weird ones! I wonder thougth if there really were signs people just didnt see.....IDK, anyone too nice is on my radar......and We had a rapist across the street from us when I was a teen, never suspected him either but afterwards, I realized he was awful quiet and I mean VERY quiet and odd but nice enough...….he followed me once in the van he used for his little escapades, he never found where I walked to so I was very lucky!.......but after rewatching Bundy videos and bio, I had to warn my daughters again, so scary......this one hit home since my daughter is in utah

I don't ever remember SS or any official mentioning this one, SURELY he looked into it, I do remember this case, one main difference was this guy was in an apartment IIRC...oh and no wife to have to deal with...….and there was another couple very similar to the D's but no beheadings but both murdered?...…….....but whoever killed HOllis could have made it to CA from GA by the time this one happened too IIRC...…….

I don't know but do serial killers do all the murders EXACTLY the same? I Mean both I mentieond are very similar to D's in SOME way but both slightly different tho all elderly...….so could be

I guess we'll see if there are more that happen, those happen fairly close after the D's IIRC.....so sometimes there is a gap to throw off the LE I think...……..waiting to see....time will tell

according to Holmes typology, serial killers can be:

act-focused, and kill quickly, or
process-focused, and kill slowly.

Act-focused killers, killing is about the act itself. Visionary murders in this group hear voices or has visions that direct him to do so, while Missionary murders believe they are meant to get rid of a particular group of people. (problem with this is the hauling off of SD which doesn't seem thtey were focused on the "act itself" only)

Process-focused serial killers get enjoyment from torture and the death of their victims. (this don't fit, neither were tortured)

Lust killers derive sexual pleasure from killing, Thrill killers get a ‘thrill’ from it and Gain killers murder because they believe they will profit in some way. (no sexual assault on either)

Power killers wish to be in charge of life and death. (this could fit)

The FBI explained: ‘Psychopathy is a personality disorder manifested in people who use a mixture of charm, manipulation, intimidation, and occasionally violence to control others, in order to satisfy their own selfish needs.’ (could have done this to get inside)

By comparison, psychosis is when a person loses sense of reality. (they knew they were hauling off SD so that was reality)

The conditions share certain traits, but typically psychopaths are manipulative and know right from wrong, while psychotics suffer from delusions.
(so in this case, they appear to know right from wrong due to the fact they tried to hide SD in the lake or appeared to want to slow down the investigation)

SO ALL IN ALL , ACCORDING TO THE ABOVE, THIS WAS AN ACT FOCUSED(except the hauling of SD I would think thtey'd have left her on scene), PSYCHOPATH, POWER KILLER, (except the hauling off of SD makes it appear not so or I'd think they would have also left her at the scene)

in that case...….a psychopath.....

oh wow, so we've narrowed it down to a psychopath...…..psssshhh……….DUH

well it clearly seems like something else was going on, the beheading but they definitely knew what they were doing when they hauled her off so they knew right from wrong

but I still think they would have just left her in this case

It seems way more sinister to me, since she was removed from the scene as if they reeeaaalllly reeeaallly did NOT want to be discovered, like they planned it so they made NO MISTAKES.....this was not a crime of passion, heat of the moment murder just for a thrill IMO

had they not hauled off SD, it would all appear so much different I think

The Don North Murder in the Carribean……...HIs body was never found but it was assumed he was tied and anchored and thrown in the sea...…...HIs nephew said his uncle always wanted to be cremated and ashes scattered in the sea so he was kind of at peace since he was likely in the ocean anyway

Made me think of SD, she and RD wanted their ashes scattered in Lake Oconee...…..

Where her body was found....

Had she not been found, she would have inadvertently gotten her wish and RD may have gotten his...to some degree

KD stated they ALMOST didn't think it was appropriate to sprinkle their ashes in Oconee now

Ironic though, the lake thing...…….also KD stated he wished his mother was dead and not suffering about the 10th day after she was known to be missing...……...he also stated that she wouldn't have wanted to live without her husband RD anyway

so she got 1 wish, almost 2 wishes

to rule out serial killer...……..they wouldn't have left him and hauled her off...……...would they?

Hauling her off makes me think it WAS someone who knew them, to avoid detection and to slow down the investigation

all of the FBI profiles of serial killers don't appear to fit this crime due to the fact they hauled her off, not to do something sinister but to HIDE her and prevent detection of the killer

this seems to me a game changer in the killers profile as serial killer or types of psychopathic killer

clearly it was some type of psycho but something done by someone they know

SS said.........self preservation or extortion

and I still wonder strongly if she was not treated in the same manner as her husband that someone really didn't want to harm her more than they had to (in their warped sense of reality and sadistic compassion)

I did hear on one of the podcasts that SD was severely beaten I think the exact words were her face took massive hits

  • #1,399
I've never heard that, or didn't remember it.... He did fight for his life, had bruised and bloody hands, I am thinking part of the actual killing, not torture or we weren't told of other markings on their person that might indicate such

If your goal is getting what the Dermonds had acquired during their life together, then both must die together. Seems to me a beheading and blunt force trauma would assure that result. Very cruel.
