Underestimating the killer's IQ is not the route to solving this crime either.

  • #922
Had not thought about that
True. Or by donating even?

Sills could have an unidentified finger print and he's just waiting... I guess they can donate anonymously? If.they had to fill out paper work He has their name and prints.

True! Would love to get my hands on one of those questionnaires. Delve into my own psyche a bit.

How exactly does LE protect the public by arresting and charging someone who is then not prosecuted and released for lack of evidence or a speedy trial? IMO the two are tied intrinsically to one another. Successful prosecution IS insuring public safety isn't it?

Not that it matters because it is MOO that Sill is lost and has run out of avenues to pursue without some new info or lead coming in.

tlcya, yes, successful prosecutions are always the best case scenario. My post did not mention arresting. Only identifying the person/s responsible. Once a predator is aware that they have been identified, and are being scrutinized by investigators, they will go on the defensive, and keep a low profile. Most times predators have a lengthy misdemeanor and felony criminal record and can be held on probation/parole violations or other unrelated charges to buy time. jmo

I agree that investigators have likely hit a wall without a new lead or info. Hopefully there will be a break in the forensics results or tip from the increased reward amount..

IMO he already has 215 sets of prints from the neighborhood meeting/questionnaire.
I really don't know if they do that.

Maybe it was something intangible.....an intangible asset.....
Then it wouldn't be something this person could "rob" per say from their home.
IMOO.

Perhaps. But, if that is the case, then the killer has already gained what he wished by murdering the Dermonds and decapitating Mr. Dermond.

It's very good. I'm listening and watching now. Big Ed Kemper! Geez he hung out with the cops. They couldn't believe he was the killer when he was caught. :tyou:

HEY BS !:floorlaugh:

Yes it was great, great eye opener and very surprising ! What this case might be in the end, VERY SURPRISING................

IF it is ever solved......but someone knows something, SOMEWHERE!

If the murderer wanted money, why didn't he rob the Dermonds? Whoever tries to claim this reward is going to end up implicating theirselves. They can't say they stood by and watched and finally when the reward was big enough they decide to rat out their friend who has a fetish for male heads.

Yeah I'd be suspicious, what kind of people are they hoping will come forward

Maybe just someone that heard the perps talking about it? Or through the grapevine

SOmeone may have been afraid to NOT go along, for fear of losing his head, no pun intended !

RE: Sills Silence

1&2&3, If Sheriff Sills had a clue who was responsible for the Dermond's horrific murders. Would he be asking for donations from the public to raise the reward amount, one month later?

'Silence is the predators most lethal weapon'..

Why not? For example, maybe the killer is an 8-5 office guy with a secretary. Suppose the secretary came across something but isn't sure. A reward may encourage someone like that to come forward.

Your post made me smile because, because, because...you responded to gngr~snap's post about "Sills could have an unidentified fingerprint and he's just waiting".... and you would love to get your hands on one of those questionnaires,( leaving a fingerprint as well!) :) I know that's not a Freudian slip! I know you aren't implicating yourself! :) You're OK in my book! It was funny to me, though. Maybe I am tired....Maybe it's only humorous to me... anyways! Thanks for the smile!!

IMOO.
Or something tangible and unregistered...
"A bearer bond is a debt security issued by a business entity, such as a corporation, or by a government. It differs from the more common types of investment securities in that it is unregistered – no records are kept of the owner, or the transactions involving ownership. Whoever physically holds the paper on which the bond is issued owns the instrument. This is useful for investors who wish to retain anonymity. Recovery of the value of a bearer bond in the event of its loss, theft, or destruction is usually impossible. Some relief is possible in the case of United States public debt." from Wikipedia

I think bearer bonds were mentioned in an earlier thread.

And it was the subject of an episode of L & O-
"The detectives try to figure out a mystery after an elderly woman dies in a fire. The mystery deepens when the young woman who has been left some of the dead woman's estate is murdered. The case takes them to a state public administrator who has invented a new form of grave-robbing."

Just my thoughts and opinions.

Yeah, if he gets caught she may lose her job. Lol.

Maybe someone is just playing it through about whether to speak up or stay quiet and the $ will be the tipping point.

Imo. upping the reward isn't going to smoke out anyone even if it goes way up.

It is obvious that Sills and all the investigators are at a dead end and this is their only hope left now. So no one is talking and they aren't going to either.

But unless the killer confides in someone maybe years down the road I don't see this case ever being solved.

I am convinced that no outsider knows about these crimes.

Imo, the killer told no one and no one saw or heard a thing that night.

I think if anyone not connected to the case had seen anything they would have already contacted Sills or the FBI by now thinking they would have been able to get the reward when it was 20K.

As did AK serial killer Robert Hansen; 'Butcher Baker'. He owned a pastry shop in Anchorage. One of his victims escaped and went to LE. They didn't believe her because they frequented his pastry shop and knew RH well.. They Thought..

I think the reward is indicative of LE being at a dead end and that they feel a large reward will keep the case in the news and in conversation, thereby leading to someone who knows or suspects something to rat out friends or acquaintances they may have suspicions about but may not want to throw under the bus on suspicion alone.

Bigger reward means friends and associates who may have heard something second hand or suspect something is up to come forward.

This is not our perp(s) first criminal act by far IMO. Therefore this person has friends who are likely also not newbies to the criminal lifestyle. I suspect this larger reward is to make it worth some petty criminal's while to rat out an associate.

.......that tells me they don't have a dam clue as to who did it.

I still think that Sheriff Sills has some cards up his sleeve.
I think divulging too much information would possibly hurt the case, so it might look like LE doesn't have a clue, but yet they might.
LE isn't showing their hand completely, in my opinion.
I hope there is a strategy, one that isn't being shown completely outright.
We can only hope, right?
IMOO.

Actually, there have been many crimes solved by tips received when a substantial reward has been posted. Money talks. But it has to be enough so that someone will step up and take the risk of possible ramifications.

And, IF this is the situation then... maybe the possibility of a "professional hit" (mob-related) should be revisited?
