Not so sure about that. I think that the UK Forensic labs destroyed some physical samples from the MM case within a few years, but they kept the results that they had.

Wrong thread I know but nothing that tied CB to it.
Perhaps we might soon learn if any of this DNA belonged to CB, or indeed any other male person
I cannot precis CB's life of crime from his assaults on women to his drug dealing from one corner of Europe to the next and possibly beyond; his general criminality such as fuel theft or in his alleged role as "the climber" according to those who knew him best. I doubt even he could catalogue his life of criminality.
Even as we speak, the German and Portuguese authorities are labouring under the passage of the years when he was criminally active.
They have solved one aggravated rape for which he was responsible. At present they have five more cases of crimes involving women of varying ages to go. And who knows how many after that, only time will tell.
But it is known that very early in his career he absconded to Portugal from Germany to evade the consequences of criminal involvement with a child. Subsequently he was deported back to Germany to face the music.
His career was interrupted when as a result of being investigated for domestic abuse he was discovered to have perpetrated assaults on another young child and another extradition trip to Germany for more jail time.
When his time for that crime was served and later while on the run from Germany to Italy a vicious rape he carried out in 2005 was investigated which resulted in his extradition back to Germany from Italy to trial in 2019 resulting in the rest as they say being history of which it could also well be said,
"It cam wi' a lass, it’ll gang wi' a lass” James V of Scotland
While CB did not confine his long career of criminality only to assaulting women it is probably worth recalling to mind that the five criminal charges he presently faces are all about assaults on women.
It started in Germany and it finished in 2019 in Germany with a conviction for aggravated rape committed in 2005. Now investigators are mopping up whatever else they think he may have been involved in and these five cases may be the first in a batch of many others.
The prime suspect in the disappearance of MM has been charged in Germany with unrelated sexual offences.
CB is currently serving a seven-year sentence for rape which he committed in 2005, also in Portugal, prosecutors added.
The charges in full:
- At some point between 2000 and 2006: The rape of an unidentified woman aged between 70 and 80 in a holiday home in Portugal
- At some point between 2000 and 2006: The rape of a German-speaking girl believed to have been at least 14 years old in his home in Praia da Luz
- 2004: The rape of a 20-year-old Irish woman after entering her apartment in Praia da Rocha
- 2007: The sexual abuse of a 10-year-old German girl on a beach in Salema, Faro
- 2017: The sexual abuse of an 11-year-old Portuguese girl in a playground in Bartolomeu de Messines

In the first episode of "Sexta as 9" about Hazel B., Sandra Felgueiras shows a document where the MP of Portimao (prosecutors) reports that they don't have the genetic material of the case and that it was ordered to be destroyed when the case was closed. But in Episode 28 of September 18, 2020 (minute 1:12) Sandra says "the MP of Portimao ordered to destroy the evidence even before the prescription of the case, a crass error that could only be overpassed because the PJ kept the material and already sent it to the German prosecutor".

It sounds like a sensible and fairly realistic thing to say. Whatever I might think about HCW, he does come across as a pretty pragmatic man.

It'll be good to get into April when this trial will feel less disjointed and more like it's finally getting underway. I wonder if it's frustrating for all parties concerned that there's such a time lapse between the trial dates? Or maybe this is just normal for how Germany's court system operates.

Surely a prosecutor should have confidence in his own witnesses.
As we've heard before, the destruction of the base evidence is different to the actual profile extracted.
So they might have the profile of the attacker on file from evidence recovered at the scene, but no longer have those physical items/samples
Personally, I think dogs could have played a role.
CB also had his dogs in Portugal, dog hair hangs on your clothes, etc. and could have been left behind at the crime scenes.
Many dog hairs were found in the apartment..
probably nothing was done with it, because it was assumed that these hairs belonged to the sniffer dogs.

I don’t think they do for HaB. FF has seen the evidence and is talking about CB being a suspect only once he was outed for MM. And the scar. This is pointless if the have a DNA profile of CB on file.

CB carried his rape kit with him complete with camera to film the event. He went prepared to a property which he had obviously spent some time casing well enough to know that his target had a cat.

The hair recovered from the bed at the scene of the crime of the aggravated rape perpetrated against DM was human and the DNA profile matched that of CB.
it is not proof... hair can end up somewhere in different ways, but if, for example, hair from the dog was found in the apartment at the McCanns, that would of course be incriminating.
And yes, in America there are cases where pet hair has played a major role
