Insisting that lies are the truth in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary has become the American way.

I’m not any more outraged about this than the other lies we hear on a daily basis. The bigger the name, the more lies you get to tell, it seems.
Lies should always be called out, it doesn’t matter who is telling them.

Just because other people are doing it, doesn’t ever make it ok.

JS’ lies were harmful ones, and I fear he will continue to tell them.

He is more empowered than ever.

Exactly. Every once in a while it is important to look at the big picture. Smollett takes the world for a fool when he claims that he did nothing wrong.

People who get away with committing fraud, such as impersonation and inciting social unrest, need to be called out. Letting people like that get away with it means they will do it again, but bigger. He escalated from impersonating another driver (his brother) to impersonating the victim of a hate crime. What next? Impersonating an airline pilot?
Didn’t he say he wouldn’t be his mother‘s son if he did this? There you go: he’s not his mother’s son, he was impersonating his brother AGAIN! :D

Is there a link that says Jussie sent the letter? I have not seen that, yet seen people ask for it over and over with no avail
Do you know anything about the letter?

It was a stick figure drawing if s man bring lynched by 2 men

And it called Jussie vile names. Just like what actually happened according to Jussies Story.

The 2 Nigerian brothers that are on video with Jussie during the incident and who were in constant communication with him right before the Attack—and who are on video buying the red hats and the bleach—-

They also had the magazines that had the cutout words used to make the letter thsat was sent to Jussies work

And the brothers said during grand jury that Jussie sent the letter

I am not sure who else may have sent it besides the brothers or Jussie. Snd if the bros sent it then it was with knowledge of jussue

I didn’t say it was right, but it’s common. Personally, I’m just not getting my blood pressure up or my knickers in a twist over this one. I expect he will have trouble finding work in the future. Being black-balled is a pretty bleak outlook for an actor. He will be nearly as untouchable as Kevin Spacey, I think, but with a much smaller nest-egg to fall back on than Spacey has. I don’t think he will feel “empowered” for long. It’s possible that 20 years from now his career might “recover” to the wee extent we are seeing with Mel Gibson’s career - when he’s older and grayer.

This is really good, and Harvey echoes many of the same sentiments we have here.

If this happens so often, why send a memo to ask for examples?

Why didn’t this follow normal protocol, and end in a plea deal that would have charged JS with one felony, given him community service, paid restitution, and probation?

What he did, was not community service.

Totally bizarre.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes!

I 100% agree. No matter how powerful they are, or how rich they are, or what position they hold. Lies SHOULD and NEED to be called out.

Yes. He did say that he would not be his mother's son if he incited social, racial and gender neutral unrest. He incited all of the above. Is his mother white or black? Just curious, given his reference to his mother being stricter about this sort of thing.

Cool. Please show me a link where it says that. I’ve looked for it and asked for it but can’t find it

Because I don’t think that’s true, I will accept it and believe it if shown where it says that. I have not seen a link provided yet and it’s been asked for multiple times by multiple people.

I don’t think so.

There are people out there who still believe him, and see the prosecutor’s actions as vindication.

No charges, no crime.

Of course that isn’t true, but that is the perception.

He pulled an absurd hoax. Got a tremendous amount of attention. And now he gets to walk, basically scott free.

Tens of thousands of dollars wasted.

A crime ridden city forced to devote resources to a lie.

And everyone comes out looking really bad.

Except for Jussie (in the eyes of his supporters).

But that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

The sentiment is “so what?”

Or, “maybe he isn’t lying.”

Or, “other more important people tell bigger lies.”

The facts, the evidence, the witnesses, all paint a damning picture.

We were lied to.

Oh, I bet Jussie gets his well earned justice down the road......Most people do...moo

I didn’t drop the charges...
And if a court case proved it then he’s guilty.

There’s IS also much bigger people spreading bigger lies that hurt way more people on a daily basis. And I agree their lies should be called out too.

Thanks! :)

It remains to be seen what will happen. But as I’m still seeing mostly outrage in the black community and everywhere else over his lies, I stand by my opinion that he will not be a popular choice for acting work in the future.

It’s really ok for some of us to state our blood pressure remains low despite lies out of Hollywood. I’m not telling you or anyone else to calm down. I’m only stating my opinion and why I’m pretty zen about this one. I trust in karma in this particular situation.

Jussie Smollett could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of mail fraud

Feb 21, 2019

"Empire" star Jussie Smollett only resorted to staging a "bogus" attack on himself three weeks ago after the threatening letter he sent himself at his Chicago Fox studio two weeks before that didn't get him enough attention, Chicago cops said on Thursday.

"If he mailed that threatening letter to himself by using the post office, he engaged in postal fraud. That's five to 10 years in jail — that's three times what he's facing for filing a false report if the feds want to go there," Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano said.

Smollett looked to gain attention from the letter and then the attack in order to get a bump up in pay, cops claimed.

Napolitano speculated that Smollett would plead not guilty and be released either on his own recognizance or with a small bond, before detailing the legal jeopardy he now faces.

"Each time he lied is a separate and distinct offense if the prosecutors want to frame it that way," Napolitano explained. "Filing the false report is an offense. Lying to them to back it up the first time he met with them is a second offense. Lying to them the second time he met with them — sometimes they merge those into one charge, but if they really want to get aggressive with him, they will file and get the grand jury to approve several charges against him, which expands his exposure in jail and gives police more negotiating latitude with his lawyers."

ETA: Punishment for the felony charges he faced is up to 3 years in prison.

Link what - the point that the mean letter at Smollett's work used fashion magazine cutout words?

He achieved the celebrity notoriety that he coveted. Now it's time for the media and everyone else to let him know that he is a forgotten man who has no voice in conversations about society, race, or gender. He needs to be silenced, and further wild claims viewed as "crying wolf."

Later in the evening, two sources with knowledge of the investigation tell CBS Chicago that the Osundairo brothers are claiming that Smollett sent himself the racist letter that arrived at the Empire set; they also say that Smollett staged the attack after the letter didn’t spark the outcry he sought.

A Complete Timeline of the Jussie Smollett Case If this is not considered MSM please feel free to delete. It just talked about the letter in the article.....I am not saying this proves anything..this just states where people got that impression that JS sent the letter to himself

Jussie Smollett Was Involved In Creating Racist Letter, Which Later Led To Attack, Sources Say

CHICAGO (CBS) — The two brothers involved in the Jussie Smollett attack told police that Smollett was behind creating a racist letter that was sent to the actor on the set of his show, “Empire,” according to two sources with first-hand knowledge of the investigation.

And when that letter did not get a “bigger reaction,” Smollett orchestrated the attack a week later with the two men–Ola and Abel Osundairo, sources said.
