RA's confessions were spontaneous. Nothing about remorse or sorrow for the victims, but pathetic RA didn't want to be separated for eternity from his emotional support enablers He wanted to unburden his own pitiful self of what he did in order to clear his conscience. But not if it meant losing love from mommy and wifey.
Track that.
He'll confess, in order to be with them in the afterlife IF they promise to stand by him in this life.
Which is also saying: if they won't stand by him in this life then he'd not confessing, afterlife be damned.
Guess the afterlife doesn't mean all that much to him.
Straight up manipulation.
As long as they'd still love him, he wanted to confess. To get it off the books, as it were.
The second he started confessing, KA told his attorneys who advised her to cut that talk off and then not to speak to him at all. THAT is what sent him into his grand mal tailspin.
IMO his codependent, dysfunctional relationships were his crack cocaine. Abduct two little girls for SA, slash their necks, leave them for dead, whatever. But wife won't talk to me, life is over. Breaks his tablet in anger (which staff promptly replaced, without cost to him). I bet he did want to die. Not because of the crimes. Not because of prison conditions. But because his mood coddlers cut him off.
Had his attorneys listened to their client, they could have guided him through a guilty plea. They too, as officers of the court, are supposed to be seekers of the truth. The evidence, though much was lost to five years, was damning. As the final witness, RA confirmed that he was there on the bridge within mere minutes of the two girls, was still there when BW returned from work, and he himself encountered no other men....
Imagine if RA had pleaded guilty as charged, then. It would have spared the heavy, expensive trial. Eliminated the Franks motions. Removed the outrageous theatrics and manufactured conspiracies.
He could have been sentenced, all the while speaking freely to his wife and mother, which probably tastes a whole lot better than excrement.
Me, I don't care about his comfort, wants or needs, but they -- his Defense attorneys -- had a duty of care. To listen to their client and do what was is in his best interest.
They had a different agenda.
And frankly, they should be sanctioned for it.
It's a court of law, not an internet circus.
