Still reading through this thread, but couple quick thoughts:
- My daughter is 5 and she doesn't get out of bed until we come to get her. Not because this is anything we ever imposed on her - it's just her preference. I can see her continuing to do this still, even when she's older. She's slow to wake, but we hear her on the monitor, so when she begins to stir we go in, open the drapes, etc. to help her get moving.
- I can imagine confusion about the talent show if, for example, Terry typically handled all the school stuff? So maybe the school communicated the talent show info through stepmom (she was very involved in the school) and she didn't pass it along, or perhaps Kyron was not sure if he wanted to do it or not (since he's shy), so there was some ambiguity about him appearing in the show. Maybe Kyron didn't want to do it, so the family didn't have the show on their radar.
For example, for almost the entire school year our daughter was too shy to participate on her share day (show and tell) so we never kept track of her scheduled day, not until she decided she would participate. It just wasn't on our radar. If she happened to go missing on her share day, the school might show her as scheduled for show and tell, but we wouldn't really know or have anything planned for it. Perhaps the play it's just not relevant so the family hasn't focused on it? SIGH. I don't know. Strange that 3 weeks later they don't have an explanation though.
