NEW YORK CITY — A veteran NYPD detective who beat September 11-related cancer is the latest officer to fall victim to the novel coronavirus.

Today we lost another great detective to Covid-19 complications. Detective Robert Cardona is a 19 year veteran and leaves behind an 8-year-old son. While assigned to the 13th Precinct Detective Squad, Robert was a 911 cancer survivor and dedicated DEA delegate.

Gary Fowler, 56, went to the emergency rooms of three metro Detroit hospitals in the weeks leading up to his death, begging for a coronavirus test, begging for help because he was having difficulty breathing, but was repeatedly turned away, Keith said.

<snip>

Before he took his last breaths, Gary had scrawled on a piece of paper: "Heart beat irregular ... oxygen level low."

Family ravaged by coronavirus begged for tests, hospital care, but was repeatedly denied

Rest in peace Gary. I'm so sorry that the medical system failed you.

5-year-old with rare complication becomes first Michigan child to die of COVID-19

A month ago, 5-year-old Skylar Herbert complained to her parents that she had a bad headache.

On Sunday, after spending two weeks on a ventilator, the Detroit girl died. Skylar had tested positive for COVID-19 in March and later developed a rare form of meningitis and brain swelling.

“We decided to take her off the ventilator today because her improvement had stopped, the doctors told us that it was possible she was brain dead, and we basically just knew she wasn’t coming back to us,” said LaVondria Herbert, Skylar's mother, on Sunday.

Skylar, the daughter of Detroit first responders, is the first child with COVID-19 to die in Michigan. Until now, the youngest person on record to die with COVID-19 was 20, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services...

Philip "Big Phil" Scardilli of Colonia, NJ passed away on April 15, 2020 due to complications of the CoronaVirus. Philip would have been 92 on June 2. Philip, the youngest of 4 boys was born in Newark NJ to Joseph Scardilli & Julia Spaletta.

Phil's legacy will always be his love and devotion to his cherished family, which meant the world to him. Big Phil was always the life of the party, ready with a joke or a pat on the back. He gained notoriety for his freeform dancing at family functions, which was a mix of shadow boxing and frenetic bouncing about, occasionally in time to the music.
