AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

Taking a moment to collect my thoughts.

NG is missing. That alone makes this an outlier. A break-in or SA, if there was a murder at all, no need to remove the victim. Unless for fear of DNA. But I don't think the details align with that all.

So why is she missing? Due to age/blood thinners, IMO it's entirely possible that her injury was unplanned, may have resulted from her mobility challenges, in which case, she would have gone missing with no sign of injury.

Why?

To hide DNA in the case of SA. If there was SA, I think LE knows that, based on the appearance of the crime scene.

If no obvious signs of SA, again, why is she missing?

Perpetrator needed her alive.

To aid in relocating her? Too heavy to carry? Force her to walk...

In order to swindle her? Take her to an ATM/Bitcoin and hope she has assets she can convert for you?

It's an anomaly. 84 year old victim. Missing. But likely alive when taken from her home.

It's easy to say that ransomers might be capitalizing on a news story. We know of one already.

But what I can't get past is that, if not as a set up for ransom, why was she removed from her home?

JMO
We either have to take the case at face value, that the kidnapper took her for ransom as they have indicated or the taking her for ransom is a manufactured story to stall, throw off to conceal another related crime. At this point we really have to work it as its being portrayed and go from there. LE will slowly rule in or out each detail. Im holding on to faith that shes ok and a break soon!!

I'm curious about any thoughts about the timing of this crime? Feb 1st feels very intentional.

I've done some looking into Feb 1st such as the obvious holidays, but can't seem to find anything of importance. The date being the 1st of Feb may have nothing to do with anything, but it's been bothering me.
We discussed earlier that Silence of the Lambs was released on 31 Jan and 1 Feb 1991 :)

There's no universe where I would be able to remain silent, but everyone is different, and every case is different.

If that universe was full of FBI agents telling you to zip it and family attorneys telling you to let everyone talk themselves into slander, I bet you'd reconsider! 😂

But yeah, it'd be hard as heck for sure!

In addition to the many theories about why this happened, is it possible that NG’s kidnapping is a message to other journalists out there not to cover certain topics in the press? For example, the final batch of the Epstein files were released on 1/30 and NG went missing 2 days later. SG interviewed Epstein survivors in September of 2019. Perhaps she was planning on doing another interview regarding the info in the files or with other survivors? Do you think this could be a possibility? It could be seen as a warning to other journalists.
no. IMO.

I just want to take a minute and apologize to all elders and NG. I have seen reference to “tucking in” so many times. I am the one who originally mentioned tucking my 86 year old mom into bed at night and locking her house up when I left. She didn’t want anyone overnight yet. But as I said, my mom was sick and her hospice days were weeks in the future. I literally helped her get in bed, fixed her sheets and blankets, removed her glasses and kissed her cheek. It was as much for me as it was for her. She died a few weeks later. I certainly did not mean to offend so many and wish I’d never used those words. NG did not need tucking in and I never meant to imply that.
it is fine but so many others used the phrase that as an independent woman in my 70's wanted to make it clear that is on a case by c ase situation. For you and your mother that was great for both of you. From now on if someone implies that anyone over a certain age needs lots of care just going to ignore it and get on with finding Nancy.

Thanks,
All I remembered was speculation of something having been done "recently".
Did you remember if any particular contractor was mentioned?
No, sorry.

Am not very informed about Bitcoin so have to wonder what is the significance if any that the circle K mentioned already has a Bitcoin ATM in it? Bitcoin has already come up in the case in relation to the ransom demand so could it be that this indicates a more local motive like someone addicted to purchasing the crypto currency?

All they’d see is what is in plain sight and if they found anything it would be useless anyway without having a search warrant.
They could get one immediately as they were in there if they spotted anything. They want them with their guard down.

Completely agree. I've also been wondering what SG does next if there are no developments. It's rare journalists and news anchor end up becoming the story, I wonder if a return to Today would be too much for her, and possibly she is rethinking her life after this traumatic experience.
I have too and it depends on the outcome. She has an amazing platform to pivot from and her perspective is going to change after this experience. I just pray it turns out well for them. As time passes so does my hope.

Don't even go there!!
Apologies, another member has just given me their ages. I did not know they were so young, of course they are not involved!

Have you listened to what AB herself has had to say about that? She speaks on it.
No. I lost faith in AB in another case (I think it was Lori Vallow), it was obvious that she was not aware of many facts in that case( and the court cases that followed) , so I no longer watch her.

We discussed earlier that Silence of the Lambs was released on 31 Jan and 1 Feb 1991 :)
I thought it was released on Feb 14th. There were some earlier premieres, most notable in NY and CA, but nothing tying it down to AZ, where this crime seems incredibly localized to.

I also know the line in the video released to the kidnappers also lines up with a line in Silence of the Lambs, but that particular line did seem more of an attempt to humanize the victim, to have the culprit engage and speak with the victim. I'm not sold on Silence of the Lambs having anything solid to do with this crime.

Regardless, there is no coincidence too small to ignore, so I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Perhaps it was never a planned kidnapping but a break-in that turned into one. Maybe when they broke in NG pleaded with the intruder(s) and told them about her daughter’s wealth/fame and a promise to get them what they want.

I’ve never heard of a ransom days after the kidnapping. Usually it’s left at the scene in the form of a note or immediately sent to the family.

I read somewhere that LE confirmed DNA from blood was NG. My question is: have they revealed if any other DNA was retrieved? Just because they didn't speak on it, wouldn't necessarily mean they don't another sample, right?
they have been careful to not speak about anything found in the house. Most agree that if there is blood outside it would be inside t oo.

Since it is extremely cold in my part of the country, I have been housebound. I should be catching up on housework, but this tragedy is just too compelling. So I have a kind of stream-of-consciousness thought process going on. I watched the Olympics opening ceremony last night and the commentators talked about how much SG loved hosting the Olympics and how much they all missed her. I was thinking that probably many more people would be watching the Olympics than would see SG on the "Today Show." What if someone wanted to punish SG? Let's say someone asked her for a sizable loan and she refused. Keeping her from hosting the Olympics could be revenge. It seems so very coincidental that the abduction of her dear mother should happen on the eve of SG's career-high gig. Just a random thought. Edited to add: just saw some similar thinking a few pages back.
I pondered the same thing. If this were an episode of Columbo from the 1970s, Peter Falk would be eyeing the understudy or anyone else who wanted to keep SG close to home. Columbo would've solved the case and Nancy would be safely back at home.

I'm not suggesting any of her colleagues had anything to do with this, but I did allow my brain to ponder that angle. JMO

Indeed, I was referring to the premieres in NY and CA. Might be a coincidence indeed!

i keep meaning to ask this but get caught up with reading more posts:

so the blood at the front door... people saying they think it may have come from her when taken out the front door.... but has anyone said was the front door and security door UNLOCKED!? that's FOUR locks that would have needed to be locked behind them. i don't see that being the case. IMO

the more likely scenario is she was taken out the back (which is probably the way they got in? again IMO
Possible scenario could be

Nancy was injured upon approach to the front door

Went in through the front door

Person took her phone from her

Garage was opened and closed as a ruse by someone who took control of her phone/app/garage opener, because the app was shared with a family member who would get alerts, or opened the garage door from inside, to leave the house.

Someone several hours later removed the door camera, lights, staged a back door break-in, and took Nancy out through the back door, before morning when this would eventually be discovered by someone checking in on her.

The gap between arrival home and removal in the early hours was thinking time

MOO

When discussing imminent updates, a reporter asked Trump whether there would be nationwide searches. Trump responded "I'm not talking about a search, I'm talking about a solution". Is this a clue that this may be a genuine ransom situation?

I am not very informed in bitcoin either, can they identify a wallet and if there was an activity on it and from where? Maybe they are looking at the cameras outside of that gas station, looks like the atm is not inside the gas but 120 ft away? Based on this map below. The highlight on the chevron camera looks like they were looking outside

If I was driving a mobility-impaired friend or family member home, I would have them remotely open the garage door while still seated in the car, then I would pull in to the garage, assuming there is room (if her car is parked inside) -- maybe I would even back in, if that gets her passenger door closer to the house door while still leaving maneuvering room.

Unless, of course, the passenger requested I do otherwise. MOO
it is safe to assume that Annie and/or her husband took NG home often. They probably had a routine down and it went the same that night. In my garage it is easier for passenger to get. out before a car is pulled into the garage and more room to enter the home. I s ee no reason to think it was complicated that night just their usual routine.
