Found Deceased NC - Clinton "Clint" Bonnell 50, Green Beret, Gray's Creek area, car at home in Fayetteville, 27 Jan 2025 *Arrest*

A Fayetteville woman is charged with murder and concealing a death in connection with the disappearance of Clint Bonnell. Bonnell’s wife, Shana Cloud, was arrested Friday at their home.

DNA collected from that body found Feb 25 was identified as belonging to Bonnell on Friday, and his wife was arrested.

Missing Cumberland County Green Beret Clint Bonnell planned to divorce his wife before disappearance
Bonnell’s girlfriend, who works near the gym, told deputies he went to an attorney that day to discuss filing for a divorce. He then visited her workplace to discuss the conversation he had with the attorney before going to Methodist University to study. In court papers, she said Bonnell texted her that night after he returned home. According to her, he said he told his wife about the divorce and that he was going to bed.

On Jan. 28, after he missed classes and could not be reached, both Methodist University and his girlfriend requested well-being checks on Bonnell.

Deputies said his wife declined to file a missing person report at that time. An incident report listing Bonnell as missing was completed by his girlfriend.

On Jan. 31, Cumberland County investigators returned to Bonnell’s home and found his bookbag and laptop. Both had projectile damage, suggesting Bonnell might have been harmed.

Cumberland County investigators met with Virginia State Police on Feb. 1 to execute a search warrant on Bonnell’s wife and her pickup truck in Troy, Va. Deputies seized her cell phone. The search warrant affidavit said she admitted at this point she had a confrontation with Bonnell over a note from his girlfriend.

Red bolding mine.
Maybe used it to transport Clint's remains ?
What a hideous end for him.
Dismemberment is a whole 'nother level of evil.
May justice be swift and harsh !
Imo.

Rest in eternal peace, Clint !
My utmost condolences to all who loved him. 😢

Did she dismember him? Seems like someone would have helped with that task and dumping his body in the pond.

So sad. Feel badly for his family, girlfriend, friends and classmates who seemed to love and admire him.
I've seen other cases where small women dismember and move larger bodies on their own. Dismemberment in this kind of case is first and foremost a practical action to reduce the body to pieces that a person can move and transport without aid.

We could not discuss it here but I think we all knew she may be involved, due to the total lack of statements and presence during his missing time. We only heard from his sister, that was not normal. I also think LE knew all the way and they did a great job, and luckily his remains were recovered.

Stefanie, Clint’s sister, provided the following statement on the arrest:

“I’ve known from the first time I talked to Shana on Jan. 29 she did something to my brother. I am very thankful he was found and Shana Cloud was arrested. I will continue to advocate for my brother and pray that justice is served.

Prayers and thoughts for their daughter, for she has lost her loving dad and must now cope with her mother’s actions as well.

Rest in peace Clint.

I hope they also arrest whoever helped her, I still believe she did not dispose of him alone, unless it was meticulously premeditated.

Cloud's first appearance is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Shana Cloud, 50, is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of death in the slaying of Clinton Bonnell, 50. The concealment charge on the arrest warrant alleges Cloud "failed to notify law enforcement of Clinton Bonnell's death while knowing or having reason to know Clinton Bonnell's death was not due to natural causes."

In a post on Facebook, a Bonnell family spokesperson wrote, "The Bonnell family is beyond devastated. Clint was an incredible human who sacrificed so much for others and dedicated his life to the betterment of this world. ... Our family will continue to fight for justice in Clint’s name."

I think she did it on her own as well. She is a farm girl/tough as nails type, and was obviously extremely angry. If he had ended up somewhere farther away, not dismembered, I would have been more likely to suspect someone else. My theory is that she shot him while he was wearing his backpack/laptop, since they had evidence of a gsw. I think maybe as he was leaving that morning for school, since she would’ve had to have shot at his back. Maybe it happened outside, and was thus easier to get rid of/cover up evidence?
