After Nurmi files his brief to the COA what will the procedure be?

Will the DT just sit back and wait for their ruling or is there a hearing? ..... or are we about to see a trial within a trial?

DISRUPTION is the theme for the DT during this re-trial of the penalty phase. Right now it seems the DT is focusing on the media as the culprit.

JMHO when the focus is taking off the convicted murderer we seem to be getting oh what do I call it.... some type of public service announcement from the convicted murderers family.

Can I fire Kirk Nurmi? Seems like since he can't get off this case he's going to make it as miserable an experience as he possibly can for everyone. I'll do him the favor and give him the ol' heave-ho if the judge will allow. It'd certainly make her life less aggravating.

I think you might mean me - my son is hearing impaired, and I can read lips (not nearly as well as he can, though). There was another member here, who was hearing impaired herself - and who could read lips very well. If I remember correctly, she was asked not to 'transcribe any lip reading she might have seen, so I won't even attempt to.
If it's any consolation, there seemed to be very little said - mostly gum chewing.

Don't forget all the drama and gossip about the convict's supporter sites and paypal accounts and art sales and donations oh my! MDLR has probably spent more time handling the convict's 'business affairs' than she has trying to find any mitigating factors for her client. :moo:

Me either. If it was me, I'd try to keep the 'relationship' strictly professional. If I had nothing to do to keep Jodi from thinking I was available to chitchat, I'd pretend I was doing research in a law book, taking notes, looking busy. Surely Maria can do her job without looking like she really IS Jodi's bff.

Speculation alert: I suspect it's a concerted effort to make Jodi appear more human and likable. Or perhaps began that way. It's a trend. Casey's female attorney took on an almost motherly role (and the team sat her in the shortest chair) making her appear diminutive, almost childlike - rather than a child killer. And Oscar Pistorius' therapist cradled his head in her hands in open court while he cried - remorse and regret were big ticket words in that trial. I truly believe defense teams are now going above and beyond in presenting their clients in the most favourable, sympathetic light they possibly can. Manipulative, isn't it? But unfortunately it appears effective.

Personally, I'd quit before I even stepped in the same state as Arias but that's just me. There isn't enough money, prestige, or success on the planet to get me anywhere near her.

I am convinced the secret witness is Jodi. She is mad that Sherriff Joe put a stop to her media interview that she was suppose to do just before the trial started. Just like the murder she is out for revenge and the consequences don't matter to her. That is why IMO she is sitting at the defense table laughing it up. This is why she had Nurmi ask the other day to not have her filmed in her stripes. This is why all of sudden there is a problem with filming her at the defense table. If she cannot do the interview she will fight the media in any way she can. She is enjoying her game. She will refuse to testify till there is no higher appeal court for Numri to go to, then she will give up in defeat and testify, just like she was going to be her own lawyer till she couldn't make it work.
IIRC in the CA case one of the reason's the prosecution fought to not have the experts allowed to testify was because CA had not laid foundation for their testimony by taking the stand. Or something close to that. I don't know if that applies in this phase of the case or not, but if the experts can't testify she will either go on the stand or the trial will be over a lot sooner than Dec.
All in my non legal opinion.

I call it the Arias Family Panhandling Video (2014), recorded in September, but conveniently released to the public the day before the murderer's lawyer railed against media exploitation before the COA. :facepalm:

This is the only brace she’ll ever need, I know that LWOP is not sweet and if that is the final outcome in this case so be it, but I feel this killer deserves the DP, thrice over. We are all going to die at some point, but the thought that you are given a death penalty makes reality a bit harsher, plus she’ll be in solitary 23hrs a day. May justice prevail.

Good to see you again!! Glad you are here and we appreciate your information. We can always ask a MOD if it is ok if for you to transcribe but if you don't want to - no harm/no foul.

You got me thinking though . . . if Nurmi is so convinced that the video of Jodi and her non-Atty BFF might be seen by someone who can read lips and that somehow compromised JA's right to a fair verdict - then I say have it transcribed by a court approved lip-reader and prove what was said was "devastating" to his case!
