Amazing that a volunteer prosecutor could get away with so much because of who he was.

And yet have multiple properties worth millions.

I did find it odd that Randy nor Alex ran to fill their fathers shoes and Duffie Stone was elected.

I’ve wondered that too. I think more money in private practice. They had grandpa & then Duffie Stone to take of things there. And AM’s volunteering to keep the status flow.

If CM did sign off on the orders around the insurance payments (i.e., her signature wasn’t forged), she allowed AM’s name to be taken off, etc., who is she accountable to — what is process for proving/dealing with this?

Under this settlement, Fleming and his law firm are personally repaying all legal fees and expenses they received, and the firm’s malpractice insurance carrier is paying the full limits of its policy. The settlement was reached less than one month after Fleming says he first learned that the settlement funds recovered for Ms. Satterfield’s sons and her estate had “been stolen by Alex Murdaugh.”

It continues, “When it came time to disburse the settlement funds, Mr. Fleming trusted his close friend and colleague to deal with him truthfully and honorably, only to be misled and deceived in one of the worst possible ways for a lawyer: Alex Murdaugh lied to Mr. Fleming to steal client funds.”

Professionals, in my opinion, and I'll bet by assumed definition, are not supposed to be MISLED.
Especially easily misled and frequently misled.

Judge was either in with them on the scheme ( makes little sense) or so very intimidated by them that she suspended her own Legal knowledge and went with their pushing it thru, or she was blackmailed, or she was under the influence of a mind altering substance while on the bench.

Seems as though some of Low Country Politicians, Officials, Lawyers, Judges, maybe a few LE, and reporters, is one or the other or several of these choices.

Yeah because I guess, it seems anyways, it's very much frowned upon to even depose a judge, have them explain on the record? I'm guessing once you get to put on the judges robes, you're insulated from being held accountable for your actions on the bench? Who knew?

I would imagine it much easier to walk in to a lawyers office then the ceo of a bank, probably why they did the hand off, wipe their hands of it so to speak.

I wonder if the Satterfield sons ever questioned the lawyer/bank about it, iirc they didn’t know it was settled.

These 'professionals' who insisted "business issues" were beyond the Satterfield sons' experience were exactly right... Shady, criminal business issues are these guys' specialty.

These professionals were NOT misled, they were 'misleading' (aka defrauding, embezzling).

That just seems so wrong to me, to just make the assumption that a judge is somehow above reproach.
Apparently there were very specific protocols and procedures and filings that were ignored, and she signed off on them. At best for her, she’s guilty of not doing her job and making sure things are done correctly in her court. At worst for her, she’s part of it.

IDK but my guess would be these two young men (teens) hadn’t had any prior experience with attorneys, bankers, and procedures. It doesn’t sound like they had higher education or many advantages growing up — I’m sure approaching professional class people and executives would be intimidating — especially when it was AM’s idea for them to sue him.

Plus their mother had worked for the Ms for more than two decades and they probably thought AM and whomever he would refer them to would be taking care of them — they would have no sense of normal timeframes — how long it would take to get the money.

Just a guess — OMO.

EDIT: my thinking is also along the lines of Lotus Pawprint’s #913 post (above) — and they weren’t fiscally sophisticated enough to see what might be going on. I’m not saying that as a critisism, just talking about life experience and skill set. Again, OMO.
