Shooting reported near White House

Well, I figured this was someone upset with the NG being in DC or just upset with authority/LE. I am curious if this person was possibly an Afghan national that helped the US troops when they were in Afghanistan. There is a special visa program for anyone helping.

The FBI will initially investigate the shooting as a possible act of terrorism, two senior U.S. law enforcement officials said.

The officials said the suspect, who is alleged to have used a handgun, has been initially identified as an Afghan national. Law enforcement officials are still trying to confirm all of the person’s details, they said.

John Miller on CNN: Shooter is a 29 year old immigrant from the state of Washington.

Jibes with the reporting that he may be an Afghan national.

I always wonder if when reports from the scanner mention 2 casualties, then do people think that means they died?
I've always understood "casualties" to mean total number of victims, while the term "fatalities" would be exclusively used for the number of deaths.

Suspect identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal - CBS News

The BBC's US partner, CBS News, now reports that the suspect has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal.

Multiple law enforcement sources tell CBS that Lakanwal, an Afghan national, entered the US in 2021.

I have actually always understood "casualties" as deaths

Just in as I was reading:

"
President Trump, who is Palm Beach, Fla., for the Thanksgiving holiday, just posted on social media about the shooting in Washington.

“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” he wrote. “God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!”
I don't even know what to say. I am glad the scum who shot our servicemembers is apprehended. I hope they both survive, but this doesn't sound good. :(
"Animals" and "Scum" are appropriate for anyone who murders innocent people just at work doing their job, and who didn't deserve this.

I hope he doesn't survive. JMO
Agreed.
If the murderer survives, the taxpayer will be on the hook possibly for the rest of his life for his room and board, medical, etc., because It's a given he'd get life without parole for this.
How is that fair.

Hoping they pull through.

The Governor posting that is absolutely disgraceful - surely he should be getting information from an official source prior to posting on social media.
Was hoping the bad news was wrong !!!
Fingers crossed.
And even if they both survive, they might be disabled physically or mentally for life -- that's infuriating.
Imo.

The suspect approached the guardsmen appearing to target them, firing first at one of the guardsmen who was mere feet away, according to three law enforcement sources.

One source said the suspect then fired at the other guardsman who tried to get behind a bus stop shelter.

The source said the suspect is not cooperating with investigators and had no identification on him at the time of his arrest.

The monster basically ambushed them.

I'm so confused. How does him being an immigrant make him a coward?
Ambushing people and shooting them in cold blood is cowardly, demented and evil to add a couple more characteristics. I don’t care if he’s an immigrant or not.

If you see my previous posts, I questioned if he was part of the program to bring Afghan nationals who helped US servicemembers in Afghanistan here to the US after we left in 2021. This is especially awful to me because we (the US) helped them to get out of Afghanistan because it was dangerous for them to stay since they helped the US. We brought them here to help them and then this person goes and shoots US soldiers. That is what I was reacting to, not the fact he was an immigrant.

Edited to add: I can see how it might seem that I was just upset this was an immigrant if you didn't see my other post questioning if he could be someone that helped us in Afghanistan.
