If I translated it right, "corto calcetin" means short-socks. Maybe we can call him (her?) Zoxx.

I have had so much trouble opening this thread today. It keeps hanging and closing. I notice sometimes (if it loads more than the first post on the page) that the pics and videos load first and then it "might" start opening actual words .... but crashes before it gets to the end. So frustrating.

Spellbound, the Zoxx name is cute. There are tall nylon socks that riders wear over their breeches that make tall riding boots easy to wear. I have been calling her Zella because that is what stuck in my head when I saw her. Zella looks really nice with beautiful white markings and nicely formed legs. I can't wait for more pics!

Sometimes the SB page loads fine and other times it doesn't for me on my iPad. I think it has to do with the videos and pics we all post on here as there are more found here than anywhere else IIRC. Who knows. Thanks for trying to get it fixed.

Hope you are feeling ok. Every time I see a Lyrica commercial I think of you. I am so sorry you have to suffer through CFS as it is not fun. You are amazing in your outlook as you always bring sun and light here on the SB. So glad you are here as I can read your posts and feel better immediately. Xo

AWW, Zuri, you are too kind! I find it only makes ME feel bad if I complain, so no need for that. I just do what I can and try not to worry about what will be waiting when I get back to it. (that isn't easy, because I am told I must be obsessive-compulsive.....! I am ) Stopping whatever physical work I do "before" I can't move is the trick ..... because ya don't hurt until you sit down for a bit. It's all trial and error as to what works for each of us.. All too often, I end up hurting first, then resting --- but at least then I know why it hurts.

Zuri, I actually like the name "Zella". Bernina will have choices for the nickname.

I am beginning to think you could be right about the volume of pics/videos interfering with using the iPad here. Seems our tech service should be able to fix it, though. Crossing my fingers they at least try.

Hello everyone!

First - :gaah: it took me 1/2 hour to get on here... not just THIS thread, but others on WS... I kept having to "recover webpage" and than wait :waiting: for the ad above to start moving and it wouldn't!!!

But FINALLY - I'm here! :happydance:

I never liked Gary Lewis & The Playboys, cause as you said - the songs all sounded the same!

I remember Dino, Desi & Billy! LOL!

Oh Bernina!! Love the picture of Zubaz! and nice name! Giddyup!!

Spellbound - Juan's book, Conviction, was only $12.

Is that the name of Juan's book? :book:

Hatfield - we too used to go up to the tree farm up the road and cut our own! Yes! Love the smell of a fresh cut tree!! And it is amazing how much water they want in the first few days! But since we both got a little older... cough, cough... that activity has ended. But the trees at Home Depot are pretty fresh! And I'm  about the "Slice-O-Matic"!!

Niner, how is your DH and how is he feeling? Did he have his PET scan and CT scan yet? Has he started his chemo yet? And how are you holding up?

I think of you every single day and send hugs through the Universe.

Hi Zuri! Thanks for asking - he's getting a bone scan today; took him to the place this morning for his shot - I guess he's radioactive now, and will be taking him back in about 40 minutes from now! Than next week we have an appointment next Monday, I believe, at his hematologist for the results. I'm doing okay - just waiting for these results and we'll "see" where we are at in his recovery progress.

:tyou:

Okay - going to another thread - hopefully!

1954 - Armistice Day becomes Veteran’s Day November 7th, 1954 : It was made known this day in 1954 that the upcoming holiday normally celebrated on November 11th would be Veteran’s Day. This used to be called Armistice Day, in order to celebrate the end of World War I. However, since another major world war had passed, it seemed time to call Armistice Day by the new name-Veteran’s day, as mentioned already. This first V-day celebration scheduled was meant to honor vets from the Civil War, WWI and WWII, and the Korean conflict.

I saw a touching show on PBS about a reunion some WWII vets too to Iwo Jima. It is really touching and shows that we can be friends with previous enemies and we are all human.

The photos of their visit work at the very bottom of this 1st link. The others photo links higher up in there in 1st link don't work for me. Also including a 2nd link to the PBS show I saw.

One of the memorials on the island has this:
"UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE"

I too have been having trouble getting pages to load on WS. I have found a little trick that sometimes works to make it a little better although it doesn't always work all the time.

If the loading of the page locks up then I leave that one locked up, and then I open up a brand new Internet Explorer Session and go to WS on that one. Not just a new window but booting up a whole new IE session while leaving the other one. It seems to help opening up WS pages on the 2nd one.

Sometimes I have to even open up a 3rd or 4th IE session. I will then go back and close down the other locked sessions.

For whatever reason, it seems to help. Just wanted to share the tip if it helps.

I think the issues are all related to the fancy ads but its just a guess. Ive been meaning to load up Firefox on this machine as I had better luck with that on my old machine rather than IE but haven't got around to it yet.

ETA: I shared this info on the other thread also.

SBM:
Yes, that is Juan's book, and I paid "$12.99 or less" for mine. Nurmi wants $16 for the first installment of his book!

Thanks, Hatfield. If enough of us add our problems there, maybe it will be taken more seriously and something can be done to correct the problem. It only started for me after the ads, so you could be right. And only on my PC

Hi Spelbound and all, agree many pictures etc. could cause problems then I think back to C.A. and posts flying fast and furious , I don't remember problems. Sometimes the board refuses to post . I tried to get into a site with one page, all I got was the header! WS.was down last evenin

___________
Hi I am back. The board cut off my post before wouldn't let me complete the word.
So I left Dodge.:laughcry:

My brother in law was in Vietnam 1968 - 1969, and he's met several former Vietnamese soldiers that he fought against, and they both apologized to each other.

Last night Websleuths crashed for me for about an hour. And I have trouble on Sentencing and Beyond.

This is Armistice Day or Remembrance Day or Veterans Day or Victory Day or World War I Memorial Day. The name of this special day may be different in different places throughout many nations; but its significance is the same.

It was on this day at 11 a.m. in 1918 that World War I ceased. The Allied and Central Powers signed an armistice agreement at 5 a.m. in Marshal Foch’s railway car in the Forest of Compiegne, France.

Many still bow their heads in remembrance at the 11th hour of this the 11th day of the 11th month.

I am pretty sure everyone has a "Favorite Christmas Ornament" that they put up each year on the tree.

Mine is one that my Mom and Dad gave me when I was about 6 years old and I got to put it on our family tree each year.

Its an Elf that has his hands holding his legs. I think they call them "Elf on a Shelf" nowadays. Mine has green fake velvet legs and I adored that ornament as a child. Somehow I managed to get the elf ornament from my parents and I started to put it on my own tree each year.

Its hysterical now because the green velvet legs are fading so bad that it is almost not green anymore. LOL

I look forward to pulling that Elf out of the Christmas ornament boxes each year. I go searching for him. LOL

When I get to put up our tree, I will have to get a picture of it and share. Until then, below is kind of what it looks like.

Do you hide a pickle in your tree?

Hey all!

Nice weather here - last few days - 58 degrees!! :autumn:

I have some Christmas ornaments that my parents (actually, my Mamma) :D gave us every year with the date on them! And the Huz's favorite I gave him way back when is Homer Simpson with a beer in his hand and a Santa hat on!

Well - not much going on here! Lazy day today after yesterday's hospital visit for the Huz - bone scan - and hoping we get some "good" news on Monday!!

Off to read my other threads!

Take care everyone! and

JINGLES!! to all who need it!

:seeya:

Hello SB friends! I hope you all are having a wonderful day. I saw where the Midwest was getting some wild weather with high winds, which we are going to be getting tomorrow. Please stay safe!

Niner, I am praying for good scan results. Your post gave me a great idea about writing the name/date on the ornaments. This year I will mark the ornaments with my children's initials so that way they will know it is theirs when the time comes. Thanks for the idea! It is too late to date them, but at least there will be no fighting over the ornaments. (Like there would be)

Perhaps I should initial the staplers too...

Hatfield, I love the Elf! I learned about the Pickle on the tree here on the SB, so I went out and bought a pickle ornament. Now I can't remember what it means.

Last year I went to Pier One and bought those tiny LED light strands that are battery operated. As I am not Martha Stewart, I put the lights amongst the greenery on my mantle and above the kitchen cabinets with decorations. The lights were so bright it looked like a landing strip in places. WTH. If anyone has these, could you please tell me how to best decorate with them? I was able to take some back, but Chayton chewed the box of the 20 ft. Long strand.
