John Volanthen and Rick Stanton told the BBC they “smelt the children before we saw or heard them”.
“Wherever there is air space, we surface, we shout, we smell,” Mr Volanthen told the BBC. “It’s a standard procedure for such rescue operations.”
CNN just ran a nice segment on the rescue including statements by the boys. As I was watching it occurred to me that 13 will no longer be an unlucky number. A couple of minutes later the commentator said the same thing.

IIRC, there was a video posted a day or two ago that showed three of the boys walking around in the ward. They all looked to have phones.
