It really is so great to see the adorable Team MooPa -- and all of them with their fabulous heads of hair. They should take lots of pix, and enjoy that hair, before they enter the monastery. :)

This has been quite a journey. I honestly feared that it was not going to end well. I lit countless candles to light the way for the 13 and their rescuers.
Many, many thanks to everyone involved. I know that there are some that absolutely deserve special recognition, but I want to thank every single person that participated in the rescue. It would not have happened without so many people pulling together.

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn has issued a royal decree promoting and honouring the Thai Navy SEAL diver who died in a rescue operation earlier this month for the 12 boys trapped inside a flooded cave with their coach in northern Thailand.
Saman Kunan, 37, died on July 6 while placing oxygen tanks in the cave in preparation for the rescue, which was successfully completed last week over three consecutive days beginning on Sunday.

The king’s decree promoted Petty Officer First Class Kunan to lieutenant commander while honouring him with the royal decoration of Knight Grand Cross (first class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant."
The now lieutenant commander was the only fatality in the operation." The now lieutenant commander was the only fatality in the operation.

I think #9 looks too young to be the 25 year old coach.

One of the boys is also called Ekkapol, I thought he was the one with 9 behind him, his face didn't look like the Coach. But it is a bit hard to tell who's who when the masks are covering their faces.

I thought the boys were great in the video. They're all so nice and polite in how they speak. Adul was great with his little speech in English!

Thank you all for the continued updates. It's taken me a few days to catch up, and I've been looking at some of the videos and articles you've linked as I've gone. The story of how one of the rescuers lost the guide rope on his way out is terrifying. I'm so relieved they all got out safely and that there were no more fatalities. I'm really sorry for Saman's wife and family though :(

He is young looking, but that is him. Watch the video. He is the last one to speak and introduce himself at around 2:50:

You're right. I had to look up the name. He is the one who makes the longer thank you speech and adds in his thanks to the prime minister, and when he says thanks to 'ministries' is he talking about Buddhist monks and nuns praying for them?

Some other details (my paraphrase):
The 13 year old Pong says he doesn't remember the dive or being brought out of the cave (due to the sedatives). He woke up in the helicopter on the way to the hospital.
We also learn the boys have not been told about the death of the Thai Navy seal.
They had to take the boys' phones away so they would not look at the news.
They will be allowed to watch the World Cup Final as a treat.
And they have been told they will be flown to England to watch a match.

Read more at link: Thai boys tried to dig to freedom
(bbm)
:( *gulp* Yeah, I was kinda wondering about that -- they all seem so very cheery, I kinda had a feeling they didn't know. Coach, too?
I wonder when/how they'll be told? Individually? As a group? Left up to each family to decide? Perhaps they'll be told as a group, before they leave hospital, so they won't find out when they're alone surfing the net.
And surely they'll continue to get counselling, right?
From the same link:
"The boys broke into tears when they realised they couldn’t find a way out. Their coach tried to swim back to find an exit but there was none.
“They had to drink water seeping down the walls and huddle together to try to stay warm.
"During the first couple of days the boys tried to get out by digging a tunnel using rocks.
“They managed to bore a hole into the cave wall about three metres deep but it left them exhausted and they decided to stop.
“The coach taught them to save energy by meditating.”
I just don't want to even imagine their panic when they realized they couldn't get out :(
And they tried to dig a tunnel, through that massive mountain; oh bless their hearts... good thing they stopped, and didn't continue too panic and freak (too much) -- good on Coach.
Aon said: “By the time the British divers found them Pong expected to die in the cave
Poor Pong ...a little 13-year-old, thinking that. :(
Aunt Aon Gaekam, who raised the 13-year-old after his dad died and mum left, said he told her they grew too weak to continue the tunnel.
Well, that's one mother who didn't deserve any of our worries over the family members. Thank you Auntie Aon. ❤️

Hi Amomet! Nice to see you, back❤︎
There's an Ekkarat afaik.
and #9 is listing (and he's saying) Coach's last name too. He does look different behind the mask, than he does in his prior photos.
Oh crap - I hope he's not an imposter! No, jk, those are his eyebrows and his ears. :) Just more hair than usual.

Thank you, Verdigris!

Oh dear, all these days I've been wondering about the pronunciation of their names and I hadn't even got all their names straight.

Thai boys rescued from flooded cave pay tearful respects to the ex-Navy Seal diver who died trying to save them
  • The rescued boys and their coach hadn't been told about Saman Kunan's death
  • The former Thai Navy Seal was honoured at a state funeral in Thailand yesterday
  • Doctors decided the boys, aged between 11 and 16, are well enough to know now

Well, I guess they know now. :(
Hope it won't screw any of them up.
And I hope they tell them Saman's widow told them to not blame themselves.

No masks in these pics, but not cheery anymore, either. :(
Coach is at very left, in group photo.

When the 13 go to serve in the monastery, I wonder how long they will stay? When they will start? I hope they'll spend a good, long, time at home, with their families first.
I wonder if they will enter as a group, or individually, as each one feels ready? Although, since the monastery service is a direct result from this event, they might go in as a group.
I also wonder if any of them, including Coach will go back to continue the MooPa Wild Boars Team?

I like that the reports are saying that they and their families will be advised in advance, on how to deal with the media-circus that will ensure, one they are released from hospital.
I hope they might even have bodyguards.

Is it just me or does this feel exploitive. Did they really need a camera in their faces to tell them this upsetting news?

So sad, but I'm glad they were all told now while they are together. Better than having to find out on their own reading the news or from their friends at school. They will have each other to talk to and lean on for a few days anyway. JMO.

Thanks for finding this, I had only seen bits of this interview elsewhere. He said they practiced how they would move the children by taking local Thai children to a swimming pool. The more I see about this whole story, the more impressed I am at how much planning and testing went into the rescue.

From the above link:

"'We'll get them all out, but there’s a good chance some will die.’

That was the grim warning by British cave diver Jason Mallinson and his colleagues to the Thai authorities as they prepared to rescue 12 frightened and weakened schoolboys trapped two and a half miles deep inside a dark, flooded cave."
