Family of youngest Thai boy in cave rescue never lost hope

View attachment 138610

Just look at that face! ↑ -- isn't he just the most ever lovin' cutest little thing you ever did see?! ❤️ The Littlest Oinky.

There's no image of that picture his cousin drew, though. I'd like to see it.

Lots more at the link; this is a very sweet article.

Family of youngest Thai boy in cave rescue never lost hope

⚽
Awww...that little Oinky sure is adorable.

He was the last one of the boys to come out, followed by the coach.
Oinky: I'm scared. You're coming with me, promise?

Coach: Don't worry. I will be right behind you. Be brave, don't forget to breathe, enjoy the ride home! I will protect you from behind.

Oinky: Falls asleep almost immediately as he hits the water. Napping is his favorite pastime.

Here's a bit on the boys who did not go to the cave with their teammates. Slightly different stories than what I have heard before. No mention of one not going because his mother said he could not.

Teammates who skipped ill-fated hike into cave don't blame trapped squad's coach

ABC News' Matt Gutman speaks with the other members of the Wild Boars soccer team in Chiang Rai province, Thailand, July 6, 2018.

[Queue and Kaan]
-Both boys, who go by their nicknames, had planned to go on the June 23 hike into Tham Luang Nang Non,
-Queue, 13, didn't go because he had stayed up late watching a World Cup match, and Kaan, also 13, was sick. Otherwise, they'd also be stranded in the partly flooded cave.
-Queue said he wouldn't even always tell his mother when he visited the cave, giving off the impression that the hike wasn't considered particularly dangerous.
-The coach would often give the boys a pep talk before entering the vast cave
-"We brought some food, water and lots of flashlights," [they sometimes went out and were in the dark, but were not afraid because cosch was with them]
-kept on walking and scribbled their names or drew pictures on the cave's walls.
-Queue said Thai officials came to him and his other teammates for information about the cave, asking about which route they usually took and what the conditions were like inside.

The two boys who narrowly missed going on disastrous cave trip

Songpol Kanthawong and Tsaweechai Namsang
, both 13, shared their good fortune with the Daily Mail while their 12 friends and coach remained trapped inside the flooded Thamg Luang cave for a 13th day. (one because he hadn’t finished his homework and the other because he didn’t have his bike).

Songpol Kanthawong and Tsaweechai Namsang – both 13 – were supposed to be with 12 other boys and their football coach

Songpol told MailOnline: 'I should have gone on the trip to the cave but I didn't have my bike so I could ride up there. Otherwise I would have been stuck too.'

Tsaweechai added: 'I was going to go to the cave but I had not done my homework. So I had to go home to finish it.'

Thank you vvm, Spelly! :)
I remember the one that needed to study, (or do homework) -
and can recall the bike one-
I think maybe even vaguely the one who stayed up late to watch the WC... I think. But my brain is fried. lol

Here's the little brother story;
Another boy, 13-year-old Songpon Kanthawong, known as Pangpond, had been too scared to venture further than the cave’s mouth in previous trips but was determined to join this time.

He was prevented because his 11-year-old brother wanted to tag along, something the boys’ mother thought too taxing for her younger son, says Pangpond’s father, Noppadol Kanthawong. She forbade both boys from going, then got a neighbor to collect them from soccer practice to make sure, Mr. Noppadol says.

‘Where Have You Guys Been?’: Thai Cave Challenge Quickly Became a Trap

I had posted that article a while back - (no doubt others have as well) it's a really good article with interviews w/family and friends talking about events on that day. Maybe little brother story, came after the other ones...
Hmmm... just noticed this boy's name, and the name on who posted the photo that Gardy found, of them all on their bikes, that day... same name, so perhaps it wasn't coach who took it -- or maybe coach took it and shared it w/all, and then this boy posted it later.
anyway, again, tyvm! It's really hard to find these particular articles once I close them, even if I bookmark them!

ETA/ another Hmmm... the boy who didn't have his bike is same one who's Mom kept him from going; so I guess that's how she kept him from going! LOL. :)
And also the same name who posted the bike pic.

Love that!
Well, they say intelligent people nap a lot...
he'll probably grow up to eliminate crime and poverty everywhere; find a cure for cancer; and bring Peace unto this World...

Hey, wait - isn't SpongeBob SquarePants ...well ...square? :)

(OK, now that all the boys are out safely, we can be a little silly, yes?)
btw, I also think it's the absolute greatest that a 16-year-old sportsman is getting a SpongeBob SquarePants Bday cake! See - this story just keeps getting better and better! ❤️

Wait, what? John & Rick had been at the cave just 2 weeks before this all happened?

'Vern told me he knew some English guys who could definitely help. They are his friends and they had been here at the cave a couple of weeks before.

Brit caver hailed magician for getting Thais to recruit hero divers | Daily Mail Online

Those beautiful Thai boys look stronger everyday!! A brilliant rescue story never to be forgotten. Well done rescuers....

Really good to read that British diver Vernon Unsworth (living in Thailand) is receiving much deserved credit for his critical role in the rescue!

What is it that's said about politics, death, and taxes and how they know no borders....

'Thanks for saving me': Twelve Thai boys who were saved in a dramatic rescue after being trapped in a cave for 12 days speak for the first time and reveal they've already ordered their favourite meal – a KFC

LOL -- I was wondering when they were going to get their KFC!

image.jpg

Here's just one of the pics - there are more like this of each of these sweetipies -- (too many to post here.) Go look at them...
So adorable! They look all nice and clean, too.
I bet they feel great!
Thai boys saved after miracle rescue from cave can't wait to tuck in to KFC | Daily Mail Online

ETA /well poop-- I'm a little bummed -- there were 12 single shots, so I thought it was all 12 boys -- but a few are just different photos of the same boys.
Bummer
Still adorable, but not all 12...
maybe a few aren't quite up to KFC yet...

EXCLUSIVE: 'We dug for our lives': One of 12 boys trapped in a flooded Thai cave tells for the first time how they had to shovel mud with their hands to escape rising water
The perch they found was so small that not everyone could sit down at the same time. For days on end, they had to take turns to stand up.
Duangpetch Promthep, known affectionately as Dom, said the boys and their coach were forced to lick rain water from the roof of the cave to survive.
Poor babies.... they all couldn't even all sit or lie down at the same time? Even more miserable that I thought it was for them! :(
'Some of the boys got very scared but they tried to support each other.'

The youngest boy 'Titan' - Chanin Wiboonrungrueng, suffered the most. He cried a lot and suffered terribly from the cold.

But the coach hugged the youngster to keep him warm and taught him and his team mates to meditate to preserve their strength and cope with the tiredness and hunger.
!!! :( :( :( But, yay Coach.

image.jpg
"Dom was given this life jacket signed by all 12 players in the Wild Boars football team that he wore as he waited on a perch in the cave waiting patiently to be rescued by British divers"
'Dom says he wants a new phone because his old one fell into the water in the cave.
'He wants a Samsung smartphone like his older brother.'

Bless his little heart! He can have ANYTHING he wants!

There are lots of family photos in this article:

It is truly miraculous that we get to celebrate these boys by TALKING WITH them now as they recover. It would have been so tragically heartbreaking to be talking about them after their bodies were recovered. This is so lovely to be able to hear about the dangerous situation, as they lay safely in a hospital, getting all healthy again.

Thank You Lord, for this lovely outcome. What a happy ending.

Almost too incredible to comprehend.

John V being interviewed on BBCNews now

He was asked if he could see what he did was remarkable, and replied somewhat reluctantly but with a smile “it was a first, hows that”. Love him!

The boys are free of infectious diseases and have been able to see their parents freely, all being well they will be allowed home on Thursday. They’ve been advised not to speak to media for a month to enable them to spend time recovering properly.

I love reading all the updates about how they're all recovering. <3 All the info that comes out about the circumstances they were in... I'm glad we didn't know all that while they were still in the cave. It's hard enough to hear now, with knowing they came out safely.

KFC and Samsung ought to give the boys scholarships for the free advertising, lol!

Oops, I meant to quote this for my last post. I hope they are given KFC for life and all get new Samsung phones free from the companies. KFC and Samsung should at least do that or maybe give them all college scholarships for the free advertising. :D

This was the work of thousands of people with big hearts, lots of knowledge and experience, incredibly hard work and a drive to help others in need. They came together and worked together under immense pressure because of their dedication and a lifetime of training.

I'm an atheist and not a believer in miracles. I do not believe this was any of the hundreds of gods out there or a miracle. This was extremely difficult work and I give 100% of the credit to all of those who were there. We can see in the videos that it wasn't a miracle, imo. I see people working under intense circumstances with a common goal. Parents not giving up hope. A coach that helped with keeping them calm and warm. Boys who listened to him and learned from him to keep their hope alive.

mir·a·cle
ˈmirək(ə)l/
noun
  1. a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.
We can understand how this effort resulted in a positive outcome. Science helped in a major way. Bringing brains together- people that knew the cave, people that knew how to rescue cave dive and all that comes with that, the pump crews, all the divers that helped along the way out, the doctors and nurses. We know how this came to be. We read it, we watched it. We watched a town of caring individuals come together in a time of need to help in their way- from laundry to cooking - it came together because they cared. They had empathy. Before placing blame and freaking out- they worked hard to see it through. It takes a village.

Besides, we don't know which goddess or god to thank - there are hundreds out there :) and most Thai people are buddhist.

It amazes me to learn how much the boys/coach all worked together to stay as calm and healthy as possible, yet worked hard to do it, too. I am so surprised how heslthy they seem once they were out. It's all totally amazing.

I'm not a big miracle person either, but for me this qualifies. No gods or godesses needed. One definition of miracle is: a highly improbable or extraordinary event, development, or accomplishment that brings very welcome consequences. I think I can go with this! It was extraordinary that so many worked together to make this happen, from the boys in the cave to the world waiting with bated breath and hopes, and all the workers in-between.

Enjoyed following with you, poppy!

I got you Spellz! I was going with the definition I knew. With the definition you gave, I can get with that :D

I enjoyed following with you as well.

Elon Musk must enjoy helping people with complex, ominous problems.

Elon Musk can 'stick his submarine where it hurts', says Thai cave rescuer diver

But Mr Unsworth described Musk’s offer to help as “just a PR stunt”.

“He can stick his submarine where it hurts,” he told CNN. “It had absolutely no chance of working. He had no conception of what the cave passage was like.

“The submarine, I believe, was about five foot six long, rigid, so it wouldn’t have gone round corners or round any obstacles.

“It wouldn’t have made the first 50 metres into the cave from the dive start point. Just a PR stunt.”

.....

Totally agree.
