Wow, diver was booked on flight and told to "expect the unexpected"...
Found via "smell"...
Debris in cave from equipment (pumps, etc) also added to challenge.

Is it just me or does this feel exploitive. Did they really need a camera in their faces to tell them this upsetting news?
I was kinda questioning that close-up, too.
I feel (jmo) that they definitely should have taken that group shot while surrounding the tribute sketch, to honour the tragic fallen hero of their rescue.
But the close-up of coach and one of the boys, well I assume (can only hope) that it was a zoom, taken from a respectable distance away. And that they, or at least doctors approved it being released. Otherwise, I guess we can say byebye to more inside hospital images, for the duration.
After learning this, I hope that none of them will be on a down-slide now. Especially concerned since the coach will be hit really hard. Or who knows, perhaps this may give him even more determination to atone, and do great things.
I'm also wondering if the Dr.s might still have them all on a mild beta-blocker. Propranolol has shown to help reduce PTSD.

I hope the boys are watching the World Cup final. I’m sulking that England didn’t make it but seeing these boys out of the cave and getting stronger is better than winning IMO.

What a scum bag Elon Musk is. Suggesting the British diver is a paedo! WTF.

Well goodness, if you look at that mini sub and at what they actually used (flat, flexible "stretcher") to bring the boys out, you can see it probably would not have worked. It would not fit through all the small crevices and holes they had to go through.

To say he never saw the rescue diver (after he had discarded Musk's sub) is a long stretch, u nless he was constantly there himself.

Sour grapes, perhaps?

Where have you seen that??

I like the British caver's response "he can stick his submarine where it hurts"

Sorry Musk, but whatever good you tried to do with your actions, you've undone it with your words.

Thank you all for the updates! My God all those reports of what could have gone wrong and almost went wrong are so scary
I'm still in awe they pulled this off. It sounds too good to be true and yet it is.

I’m ready for tomatoes to be thrown my way.
I just don’t get the hate thrown at Elon Musk? He tried to help by creating this awesome mini sub. What his team built in a short period of time is amazing. It wasn’t used, no harm, no fowl. Stupid people then flock to twitter and everywhere else to belittle him, and his help. Even a diver? ( I believe I saw the diver made negative comments first?)
I wish Elon would be the bigger person and just not respond to these people but he is human.

"You know what, don’t bother showing the video. We will make one of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo. Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it."

BBM

I was on the fence regarding EM. He just pushed me off that fence. What an arse.

imho

That was certainly uncalled for BUT I also don’t understand the nasty comments from the diver!
This was such an amazing rescue. So many people from so many countries coming together. Why do people feel the need to ruin that??

ETA: I think Elon needs to just stop responding to it all.

smh Why would he call him a 'pedo guy'? A bit of self restraint would have been better. How childish of him. I think this will cost him a lot of good will.

I wonder if it might cost him cash. If VN is consulting a libel attorney?

I agree!

But that 'pedo guy' comment was a

I'd barely heard of him before this event so have no prior opinion on him whatsoever. He absolutely deserves credit for what he built, but the correct statement would have been "I am delighted the divers rescued all the boys safely, and hope to work with them in streamlining future rescue designs"

Thai boys rescued from flooded cave pay tearful respects to the ex-Navy Seal diver who died trying to save them
  • The rescued boys and their coach hadn't been told about Saman Kunan's death
  • The former Thai Navy Seal was honoured at a state funeral in Thailand yesterday
  • Doctors decided the boys, aged between 11 and 16, are well enough to know now

Well, I guess they know now. :(
Hope it won't screw any of them up.
And I hope they tell them Saman's widow told them to not blame themselves.

No masks in these pics, but not cheery anymore, either. :(
Coach is at very left, in group photo.

Thai cave rescue: Boys pay tearful respects to the ex-Navy Seal diver who died | Daily Mail Online
Very sad...I hope they honor Saman Kunan, the hero, be thankful to everyone who cared, saved, then promptly fell in love with them all, and let time heal the pain they are experiencing.
