I like hearing this! Their wills are strong!

Yes! And they had an intense course in meditation that will be extremely helpful during the rescue.

I feel a little hoodwinked at this point. They have stated this multiple times only for it not to pan out (maybe not this specifically, but you get what I mean). Maybe they have this time. I sure hope so. In some ways I feel these last minute scramble attempts are deflecting from the fact that realistically these boys have about 24 hours left. It’s as if they are hoping the public will forget the tight timeline and get distracted by a new hopeful possibility. Sorry I sound cynical. I know they are just doing their job and trying to bring us coverage.

Another new shaft was found today by searchers above #ThamLuang cave, beyond the chamber where the boys are located. Police paratroopers have rappelled down 100 meters, but have not hit bottom. Searchers now preparing to send down a remote vehicle with camera to explore further.

There is a confirmed tweet by engineer Elon Musk stating he is sending his Boring Company engineers to talk with rescue officials on Saturday. His "hole digging" engineers wouldn't have an appointment to speak with rescue officials on Saturday if the boys were going to be dived out on Friday.
Maybe they are going to attempt both ways as some of the boys aren't strong enough? Get out the stronger ones with the swim and hike right away, the others as soon as they can complete the hole digging and the boys could be lifted out?

Thank you to everyone for keeping this thread updated with current information. I’m away on holiday but been checking in as often as I can. I feel so scared for these poor boys and the SEAL who lost his life this morning shows how dangerous it is going to be to get them out.
Just praying for them to get out safely.

Are "diving" wet suits different than "normal" wet suits? I guess they must be, because child sized wet suits are widely available.

No, they aren't different. That's why I'm disgusted. I have no doubt manufacturers would have sent whatever Thai officials requested.

Great thinking, Kkdj !

Cripes, I'm a mess. This is horrible. Praying, praying, praying. Lord Jesus, please spare these babies and their rescuers.
This is about as much of a hire wire act as you can get.

I bought wet suits for my grandkids on Amazon. Amazon could have delivered the suits to Thailand by this time. :(

I honestly think it was poor reporting. I'll be they have the proper sizes.

Just remember we have got information coming from everywhere, both official and unofficial sources. Reporters of all nations, friends of reporters, the police, the divers, the Navy, the volunteers. Then there's translation; some will be spot on, some will be more amateur, some will be using auto-translate which is rubbish. The news outlets are all vying to be the first with news, it's all a bit chaotic and it's not surprising contradictory and sometimes inaccurate reports are coming in.

There's also the Thai culture of "saving face', an innate, instinctive, unique trait that characterises their nation. Often a Thai will lie rather than admit defeat. Ask for directions to a particular place and if they don't know they'll tell you something random anyway. Google it, it's so interesting.

I am wondering if they plan to bring the strongest, most capable boys out tonight and tomorrow.

And then have urgent plans to try and find other ways to move out the weaker boys when they can find a way.

I know the mentality well. It's the same here in India. You don't talk about problems, you don't say 'no'. The answer is always "Sure ok, no problem" even if you asked whether the rickshaw can drive you to New York. Not criticizing but it certainly is confusing sometimes. We might have similar issues with the reporting out of Thailand here.

Any live feeds at the moment?

  • #398
Praying, along with everyone, for strength and courage for the officials to decide and act to save the boys

Reuters shows live update not for 8 hours. I keep checking. If it's sooner I will post. I know you are all checking all of the live update sites as well.

From site:
THAILAND IN 8 HOURS
Rescue operations continue at Thailand's Tham Luang cave

One reason the team cannot yet be evacuated is that rescuers were also still searching for three more wetsuits with a thickness of five millimeters, the official, who has direct knowledge of the operation, told CNN. Three of the boys are too small for the wetsuits on hand.
Thai cave rescuers face race against time as oxygen levels drop - CNN

Seriously? Amazon could have overnighted them.

Thailand is reportedly one of the worst countries where journalists
are not allowed to have free rein on the news. News is very controlled here. I got worried earlier this week when they suddenly moved journalist way back and away from the activities
and it seemed to become almost a 'news blackout'.
On the Guardian site, which has a reporter on site waiting for the
press conference that's 3 hours late, the reporter mentions
the controlled news environment.
I don't know who or what to believe here anymore.
