Fantastic. They can solve traffic congestion problems. What does that have to do with getting the kids out? This is a rural area. Not a lot of traffic congestion there. If he was serious about helping he should have offered it weeks ago. He's just looking for publicity IMHO.

This is in the middle of a rain forest/rural area. I totally agree he's jumped in to hold onto the tail coats of others and raise his profile worldwide as a 'rescuer'.
ugh

I think the pumping is still making a big difference, in one of the videos that auto played after one just up thread, they said at the start they were getting the water down by something like an inch a day and now it’s several inches per hour. And that (I guess because of the lowered water level) today was only taking 3 hours each way whereas at the beginning it was 11 hours round trip.

I have no idea which video it was, I was cooking dinner and listening.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that is the case :(

From the article linked just above us:
“According to the document, pumping operations have not been able to significantly lower the water level deep within the cave network. Rescue crews have assessed that the ongoing effort to pump water out from the main entrance of the cave has reached a point where it’s becoming less and less effective, and placing pumps further inside the cave -- beyond the 800 meter mark, where they currently are -- does not seem possible.”

Couldn’t they build some sort of dam to prevent a good amount of the rainwater from entering the cave?

What confuses me is, why do water levels rise when the pumps are turned and it wasnt raining? o_O

"According to an internal U.S. government report obtained by ABC News, the Royal Thai Navy, supported by divers from the United Kingdom, the United States and other nations, has briefed Thai military leadership, interior ministry officials and the provincial governor on a proposed operation to evacuate the 12 boys and their coach from the miles-long cave in Chiang Rai province, alongside experienced divers in what is being called a “buddy dive.” Thailand’s prime minister will be briefed on the proposal Saturday morning local time."

Everyone read, must read article, has latest plan:
Proposed ‘buddy dive’ plan to rescue boys in Thai cave could launch this weekend

Am I misreading it, or do they need to change that headline because the buddy dive plan is no longer a possibility?

According to the Guardian dot uk, there will be no attempt to remove the boys from the cave tonight. It is less than 24 hours until the monsoons are expected that will keep them in the cave for months.

According to the Guardian and other sources, there will be NO attempt to remove the boys tonight. Rain expected sometime tomorrow.

ETA: they are already at Saturday morning, so the rain is about 8 hrs away

Utter confusion. Hopefully only in the reporting and not on site.

"Thai authorities have said that 12 boys stranded inside a cave will not be imminently rescued – less than a day before the expected arrival of monsoon rains that could seal them inside for months.

Narongsak Osatanakorn, the governor of Chiang Rai province, said that rescuers were striving to free the boys and their 25-year-old coach, Ekapol Chanthawong, before it rained but would only do so if there was “minimum risk” to their lives.

“If we face the heavy rain, we must bring the kids out,” he told a midnight press briefing on Friday. “But if the situation is stable [inside their chamber], we can let them stay.”"

What confuses me is, why do water levels rise when the pumps are turned and it wasnt raining? o_O

I have read some theories that there are some other ways that water is seeping in. Perhaps through underground springs, etc. And some of the water that has been pumped out, may be returning in a roundabout fashion, through the way it runs off.

Rescue crews have also determined that it’s impractical to bring into the cave the necessary amounts of food and supplies that are required to sustain the boys and their coach before the oxygen levels drop to fatal levels or the water level rises. Divers can only bring in small amounts of supplies at a time.”
snipped for focus

jeez..didn't we just hear about how they had already brought in 4 months worth of food?

According to their weather report they are about 8 hours away from thunderstorms/rain.

Oh so they really gonna go ahead with the dive? Im so scared!!!

Some sources seem to be saying, yes, today. Some seem to be saying, no, not today.

Hope that clears it up for you :)

"Intense monsoon showers are expected to hit on Saturday and will undo days of work to drain the cave system.

The rescue operation has succeeded in clearing at least 130m litres of water from the cave but it is unclear how much more needs to be removed before authorities will risk removing them."

As far as I can tell it is raining.

They turned off the pumps twice when it wasnt raining yet water levels rose. So much run off?
