1st out expected to be a group of 4. Boys will still have to dive/led beneath water, but most of cave will be wading with heads above water. No scuba tanks on boys, rescue divers are porting their own oxygen with boys. The cave is not dry! Godspeed rescue divers. Bring the boys home to their families.

This has probably already been linked (sorry if so), but the diagrams shown scrolling down really bring home what they are up against. May the forces that be, the gods, the universe protect them.

It is expected that the withdrawal from the meaning will succeed quickly within the next three hours, which is expected for the first child to come out. The withdrawal of an action under enemy pressures is water and time

Update #ถ้ำหลวง #ThamLuang Press - Pls leave the working area the team and all people with tasks. How ready it is? Water level has reduced so much that we can walk through chamber 1 2 and 3. Some reduced by more than 30cm. If we wait there'll be more risk. The monsoon's coming.

One final update from Thailand cave rescue: officials confirm rescue operation has begun – live

An Australian doctor assessed the boys last night and gave them the all-clear, said the governor. Once they are out of the cave they will choose the most suitable way to move them and have helicopters on standby in case they are needed

"International all-stars" and Thailand's best selected for mission
The governor has said that the 13 international divers who will go in to the cave to rescue the boys are “all stars.”

“And we selected five of our best who can work with them,” he said.

It was previously reported that having Thai-speaking divers whom the boys have a bond with was going to be key to the rescue operation.

The governor will not confirm if the boys have to dive out of the caves, which has been a point of concern in the planning of the rescue.

The governor just said that today is the best day to attempt the journey “because most of the path is walkable”.

The operation could take three to four days, said an army spokesperson and the mission “depends on the weather”.

Despite this, the governor reported that all of the 12 boys and their coach are “very ready” to come out.

I humbly admit that I thought the worst you could encounter in a cave would be bats or a bear.
This is truly amazing. I’m watching every step of their rescue.

I am going to bed now.

Those beautiful boys' faces with their grins will be in my thoughts just before I go to sleep.

Thank you, everyone, for being here, for making this anxious situation softer and being so supportive.

You are all amazingly compassionate, strong and so very kind.

I join you all in praying for a successful rescue and safe return of each and every person in that cave.

May all of the boys, their coach and all of the divers be watched over and safely returned from this journey .

This is an auspicious moment. I will always remember this. This is a moment the world looked at with heart-filled love.

“Today is D-Day,” he said, adding that 13 international cave divers and 5 Navy SEAL members have gone into the cave to bring out the survivors.

He said the rescue operation began at 10.00 am and the survivors will be brought out in what is known as a “buddy dive” in which each of the survivors will be escorted by two rescue divers. He told a news briefing that the first survivor should be brought out by 9 pm tonight.

Narongsak said both the survivors and their families have already been informed of the rescue operation. “The boys are both physically and mentally fit and they all agree with the rescue mission. They all said they are prepared to encounter whatever lies ahead,” he said.

He said the current weather and conditions in the cave are “most conducive” for the rescue operation. “The monsoon rains are looming and the window of opportunity to save them is closing,” he said.

Ok folks...I’m off to bed. These boys, the divers, the parents, and everyone here will be in my thoughts. They all have to make it out safely, they just do.

The boys will each be accompanied by two expert divers

At the press conference, the acting Chiang Rai governor told the large group of assembled media that "today is D-Day".

The only way to bring them out is by navigating dark and tight passageways filled with muddy water and strong currents, as well as oxygen-depleted air.

The path out is considered especially complicated because of twists and turns in narrow flooded passages.

But the governor supervising the mission said earlier that mild weather and falling water levels over the last few days had created optimal conditions for an underwater evacuation that won't last if it rains again.
