I think it's only at one spot where the water is so deep. Another tweet said (from the pc) that the water used to be head-high and now only knee-high in places. I think what's important is that there is air between the water and the rock so that they can swim rather than having to dive, because there's no visibility in the murky water.
It still doesn't sound good to me. I'm sure that some parts will start to clear out eventually , but that is still a lot of water.

It definitely is. When they find them it will present great risks and more challenges to get them out safely. They can't afford to wait because the rain might get more intense as monsoon progresses. It's all very precarious.

One tweet said more than 1,000 people are currently working on site. That's a huge effort. I hope they'll be successful, it would be terrible if they can't get to them in time.

Divers with extra supplies advance in Thai cave passageway

Thai navy SEALs said in a Facebook post early Monday that divers since Sunday night had reached a bend where the kilometer- (half-mile-) long passage splits in two directions. The divers are aiming for a sandy chamber on higher ground in the cave, where they believe the group would be safe.

Experts in cave rescues from around the world continued to gather at the site. An official Australian group has now followed a U.S. military team, British cave experts, Chinese lifesaving responders and several other volunteer groups from various countries.

One book that I read years ago compared some water rescues in caves to space flight as far as logistics and support go. The author is probably right:

- 1,000 people ranging from Seals, expert advisors, electricians, a variety of technicians, pipe fitters, drillers, to cooks, to porters to porters for the porters etc. are needed to place six Thai Seals with in 600 meters of the boy’s possible location.

- This effort includes placing and rotating over 600 dive tanks of oxygen and relay teams of SEAL and other expert divers.

The fact that none of the rescuers, especially the divers, have gotten killed despite the need to dive in flooded caves with muddy water really shows their skills. Then again, I believe the Thai military has been long known for quiet efficiency despite having a shoe string budget.

This is a harrowing situation. I keep praying they will get to them in time.

I once saw a video somewhere of a diver going through a small passage and the diver had to take his tank off his back and pass the tank through the opening ahead of himself and then reattach the tank to his back once through.

It sounds like the opening in some spots are so small then similar techniques may have to be used which makes things very difficult and scary to do. Its also why its taking so long. They are hitting obstacles they need to overcome.

Continued prayers for all involved.

If these cave diving experts, have to do such difficult, dangerous maneuvers, it makes me even more worried. How did these inexperienced young boys get so far in these caves, without all of this skill and equipment?

Conditions changed dramatically after the boys entered the cave system. Heavy rains flooded many areas and I also read mudslides occurred.

If I understand correctly, the cave is open during the dry season.

There was no water at the time I presume. They saw the water coming in and getting higher and receded, searching higher ground. imo

I'm worried how they will get the boys out through this narrow passage? o_O

English live tweeting has stopped. I google-translated a few official tweets in Thai but they don't make much sense (translating Thai seems to be very difficult). But one said clearly that the divers had problems, doesn't specify what problems though.

Can anyone explain what the plan is to get all the boys out through these narrow, water filled passages?
Wouldn't the boys each need scuba equipment also?

One of the articles linked earlier mentioned the boys possibly needing to learn how to use scuba equipment to be rescued.

Early on they were discussing the possible need to teach the kids basic scuba skills. There is a doctor on hand who will assist in treatment and deciding how and when to extract. I'm hoping the water level will have been lowered enough they don't have to use scuba gear.

I linked this article earlier but it has the best description I've read.

The governor told reporters that an army doctor, the only physician in Thailand who is also trained as a Navy SEAL diver, was at the scene and was prepared to enter the cave to treat any survivors before they are moved.
