One book that I read years ago compared some water rescues in caves to space flight as far as logistics and support go. The author is probably right:
- 1,000 people ranging from Seals, expert advisors, electricians, a variety of technicians, to cooks, to porters to porters for the porters etc. are needed to place six Thai Seals with in 600 meters of the boy’s possible location.
- This effort includes placing and rotating over 600 dive tanks of oxygen and relay teams of SEAL and other expert divers.
The fact that none of the rescuers, especially the divers, have gotten killed despite the need to dive in flooded caves with muddy water really shows their skills. Then again, I believe the Thai military has been long known for quiet efficiency despite having a shoe string budget.
