4 months worth of food being sent in according to Thai Navy! Oh please don't let it take that long. That would cover rainy season. They will be teaching them to dive so let's all hope they are successful so they can leave sooner than later.

Just imagining how much my stepson ate at that age. 4 months worth of food for an average person would maybe last him 1 month. He was tall and thin and apparently had a hollow leg.

Kidding aside, I’m elated they found them alive. Hopefully it won’t take that long to get them out.

I think they'll get them out faster. Far too risky to leave them in imo. Rain could get really bad so that even pumping would not be enough. Not to mention the torture for them to be in there for weeks or months. Then they really would get ill.

Here is a good unedited video. You just need to watch the first five minutes. The video repeats after that.

ABC NEWS is reporting a doctor is a member of the diver rescue
team which has reached the group and will be spending the night with them.

Live: Thai cave rescue - CNN

Four divers went into the cave with survival kits and remained with the boys and their coach to offer assistance, the captain said.

It could take hours to remove one boy, veteran diver says

Veteran rescue diver Butch Hendrick believes it could take multiple hours to remove just one boy from the cave in Thailand.

"They'd have to make sure that each one was successfully out before they started with the next one because if they suddenly had a problem they don't want to be halfway through the exit and realize they have to go back," Hendrick said.

"It could be multiple hours per person for sure based on the distance interior they are in the cave," he said."
Hendrick told CNN multiple steps must happen before the boys are removed. Here's what he said it will take to get the the kids out of the cave:

  • Medical personnel will check the boys and their assistant coach so they can decide who will go first.
  • They will likely be given oxygen if they can't swim.
  • Two to three people will assist the boys and their coach to get through the narrow passages.

I wonder who is in charge of this recovery? Who's making all the
decisions?
I believe that would be the Thailand government. Probably the Thai Navy.

Live updates still being reported here:

Thailand cave rescue: divers work to rescue missing football team – live

Ben Reymenants, who spoke to BBC Newsnight, said it could be weeks until the water subsides enough for the rescue to be completed and that none of the children can swim or dive, which will slow rescue plans.
So there’s two volunteer Navy Seal doctors that actually sacrificed themselves to stay with the kids up to three, four months until the water subsides. Now the real hard work begins to get these kids out. None of them can swim or dive so that’s going to be a real challenge.

He said that its quite warm in the cave, at a temperature of around 26 degrees, and water is dripping from the walls.

This meant that, luckily, the children were unlikely to have experienced dehydration and hyperthermia.

this is from before they were actually found, 7/1/2018:

Thailand Cave Rescuers Report Progress in Search for Soccer Team
But the governor of Chiang Rai Province, Narongsak Osottanakorn, who is overseeing the search-and-rescue operation, expressed hope that Thai Navy SEAL divers could soon reach the cavern where the group is believed to be.

The governor told reporters that an army doctor, the only physician in Thailand who is also trained as a Navy SEAL diver, was at the scene and was prepared to enter the cave to treat any survivors before they are moved.

From Spell's link:

1m ago23:56

The boys have been provided with energy gel to eat and people have been sent to keep them company while the “logistical plan” is worked out, the Thai navy SEAL unit said on its official Facebook page.

“Power gel and sustenance equipment has been brought ... to the team ... and we’ve sent people to keep them company until the transport plan can begin,” said the post.

The Navy SEALs were jubilant in tone, writing on Facebook, in English “Hooyah” at the end of the post, but warned “our mission is not over”.

If he is on the rescue team, why is he re-tweeting what is going on? Without more information about him, his credibility looks low IMHO.
New video by BBC News from someone on the rescuing team. Says could be weeks or months before kids get out of the cave. NONE of them know how to swim.

I just watched the video on there, grinning ear-to-ear as I watched it twice over! They're so skinny but their voices are strong, their minds are strong, they've made it and they're going to get out!

Damn right they'll get out. And then the film will be called "222 Hours"

I have a feeling the coach is dealing with his own embarrassment and guilt on top of being starved and exhausted. He probably doesn't want to say much. I hope they go easy on him. He's young and I'm pretty sure he's learned his lesson.

The DM had a picture of about four of them together (shirtless) and it looked like three of the boys close with the coach as if he was their source of strength and being a very strong figure for them down there.

Whatever the circumstances of them getting stuck down there, they've had to hold it together for ten days in the dark, confined space, water rising and receding around them, not knowing how much time was passing, not knowing if they would get out, no food, very little light. That they all look and sound comparatively well is a credit to them all and to all their families.

That photo is not of the rescue. It is from an earlier trip and continues to be inaccurately identified by several media outlets.

(ETA: info based on the statement of a mother of one of the kids)

I've tried to figure out which is the coach in the video...can anyone tell where he is located?
