It would be daylight there now.

First I heard of this, and I have no idea if it can be utilized:

French divers offer to help Thai cave rescue
French Divers Offer Help

"What we could bring is a dozen specialists trained for speleological dives using equipment dedicated to this environment who are able to dive in troubled water without any visibility," Olivier Lanet told Euronews.

"We have developed a stretcher which can be used to move a person through floodwater even if they are unable to move on their own. And this stretcher, once in the water, weighs nothing. It floats and can be easily maneuvered by two experienced divers."

"It would take four hours to reach the victims, perhaps two hours to teach them the basics of diving and to make two attempts. And then, probably four or five hours to bring them to the surface."

I think that all those things have been suggested before, but it is the narrow, low passages that are the problem.

Checking on the boys! May God have mercy on all persons involved with rescue.

As usual, the current "updates" are still all over the place, from "crash-course diving out" to "will take months" -- just churning all of the same initial reports over and over.
I'm beginning to think these articles are now based solely on the journalists' personal opinions, rather than any actual new official information.
Aarrgghh.
This is just such a miserable plight.

Hi Miss Jennifer17 -- I was thinking you are living in Thailand now -- or is it that you had lived there previously?

I lived there for ten years in two stints. I came home for good in 2008

Sorry for all my posts in a row -- seems I am always on here when nobody else is! (Or do I need to take a hint? )
Anyway, does anyone know if the divers were against the current in reaching the boys, or if it will be against current on the way out? Or possibly different current direction in different areas, depending on the inflow source? Or perhaps some areas are like a swirling, or rolling current?
Anybody know?

I know I read it somewhere, just not sure where so no link. Current is with them on the way out. Which is good.

Most people in the US are probably celebrating the 4th of July now. Don’t worry. You’re good
and don’t need to take a hint :) Wish I could answer the rest of your questions but I haven’t seen anything about which way the currents flow.

I just don’t understand what the problem getting these kids out is. I’ve looked at the pictures. I realize they can’t swim. Why can’t they just be led out by scuba? Is it that hard to learn to breathe through a scuba mask? I’ve never done it. I don’t know.

All I know is 10 days in a cave without knowing if I’d be rescued and now days waiting to be rescued I would have gone mad by now.

Just saw this article, luckily this shouldn't be an issue for these boys because of the shallowness. However, reading the comments gives some insights why this is a concern. If these boys hold their breath with scuba masks and compressed air on it could be fatal, regardless of depth. I think that's likely part of the issue.

Divers took more than three hours to reach the ledge where the boys are sheltering on Monday, but moving with the current on their return took about 50 minutes.
Thai cave rescue: boys 'learning to dive' before new storm

That is AWESOME. That will be a huge help to not have the current against them.

I could have sworn I multi quoted other posts but maybe it was in other threads. Oy.

It may be the board itself MsF. It's been glitchy a bit today for me.

They are 50 minutes from getting out??? WTF get them out already!!!
I know it sounds easy but if u read back to earlier threads it explains all the obstacles. Navy Seals found it extreme and beyond.
