One thing that doesn't add up to me though is - she had a bicycle in the house.
This is interesting. Did she? Not saying you're wrong. Can you put some meat on the bones of this.
Sorry I read it somewhere - on a blog - but can't find a link to say she had a bicycle in the house. But yes it seemed she liked the exercise
"Joan Lawrence also spoke and touched upon a subject that tortured both parents: their fears Claudia that had been taken on her walk to work, after their attempts to persuade her to use a car failed. "I was worried about her and offered her the money for a taxi," said Mrs Lawrence. "But she wouldn't take it. She liked walking for the exercise.""
On Wednesday 18 March, Claudia Lawrence went to work, phoned her parents, texted a girlfriend. Then she vanished from her family and friends' lives - leaving them distraught, and the police with a job to do

If she habitually went out of the back of her house to walk to work, instead of the front door, people who knew her could know that habit and her be confronted in the alley by someone.
Why would she go out of the back door?
I think you're correct that that wouldn't be a short cut to Melrosegate or to the University, but I wouldn't know the shortcuts avoiding main roads. However, if she didn't go out of the back, how did she disappear? The idea that she could be abducted from the front of her house in plain view, even in the dark, with security cameras around, seems very unlikely.
Except phone located in Heworth location ruled out the notion that she could be at Melrosegate or near the university?
Not at all. The phone records suggested in a 9 mile area which includes the university and Melrosegate.
Thank you. I was trying to find a plan/map I'd seen (I think it was on here) showing the scope of her phone coverage. I read here (DM) that her phone was active near her home
"A police theory that missing chef Claudia Lawrence was killed by someone she knew is supported by evidence her mobile phone was active near her home four hours after her disappearance, it emerged today."
Ms Lawrence's March 19 2009 disappearance led to a £1million murder inquiry and the latest disclosure is partly why police believe her killer was someone who knew her.

On the other hand, the Northern Echo say the Police said the phone wasn't taken outside of York - which is a bigger area obviously.
"The police source told the Sunday Times: “Her mobile phone never left the area of York.
“This is part of the reason why the police believe she fell victim to an attack by somebody that she knew who was familiar with the area.”"
A NEW revelation that Claudia Lawrence’s phone was switched off by somebody hours after she failed to arrive at work has been described as…

But if it was just within the York area itself and not just the Heworth area, then how does that suggest it was someone she knew? Maybe just bad reporting?
So if she was still in Heworth with her phone, I can see why the Police might have thought something happened at the back of her house.
You've made this up. The polis did not assume something happened "at the back of her house".
I didn't make this up - as I mentioned earlier, I read it somewhere, but it may have been an unreliable source, inferring that from this quote by the police in 2015
"
Referring to the re-examination of the alleyway, Det Sup Malyn said: "I am interested in this alleyway and whether it was significant in Claudia's disappearance.
"We are looking at it with fresh eyes and I do feel from judgement and experience it is worth revisiting these scenes.
"We still don't know if Claudia left for work... or whether something happened overnight within her house.
"If the latter is the case, the person or persons responsible, in my view, would have used the rear alleyway as the front door leads onto a busy main road. This is why this specific piece of information needs to be fully investigated.""
Police searching for missing Claudia Lawrence re-examine the alleyway behind her home, as the lead officer suggests some people may not have been honest with police.

I think there has been a fair bit of discussion about the alley way behind her house on here, and it was something I thought - someone could have come to her back door that evening and she answered it and was lured out. Also the additional forensics in the house didn't show anything so it suggests something happened out of the house.
So my own feeling was - it was either that (behind her house that evening or even next morning), or that she accepted a lift from someone - and the arguing couple near the university and maroon car - now that it seems the phone data means it could have been in a larger area than Heworth.
