Yes very plausible but if she was accidentally murdered how does that explain the CCTV alleyway footage taken before CL was last heard from? Maybe the man/men have nothing to do with the case at all. I’m convinced the straighteners, the Ford Focus, suddenly breaking outside her home and a woman are all involved in some way. The rest I’m baffled by.
I have often also been baffled by many of the elements of this case @Eve71 How I try to make sense of it is by taking a view that not all activity seen is suspicious.

For example:

The Dark person seen on CCTV in the evening may have been a "fling" who hadn't seen her in the Nags for a few days. They may have been checking out to see if she was in her back bedroom and on her sun bed, looking for the tell tale ultra violet light from her window. Or they could have been looking for the same thing that might indicate she would have been upstairs and so they could enter by her front door. Remember that one of POIs was a locksmith.
The breaking car in the morning could have been a genuine lift giver who had turned up by arrangement and then assumed that she had decided to walk.

The CCTV in the morning shows first activity in that area at 5;07. The breaking car is at 5:42-35 minutes later-If you were getting a lift, a lift giver would arrive at this time.
It could also be someone dropping her off after an all nighter, that would then make her late for work unless they waited for her to quickly grab some items.

Then there was the car seen at 5:32 on the melrosegate cameras heading in the direction of her house and driving away from the university. Was this her all night out drop off, getting her home just a few minutes before her arranged lift at 5:42.
Did she get home and was there someone waiting for her?

The dark person may have been someone staying at Nags checking again if Claudia was around. Perhaps at 5:07 Claudia was normally up and getting ready.

Then we have the person seen at her door at 6:45. Could they be the clean up team or just a lift giver who is concerned she is not at work?

I would expect that even in 2009 police would have footage of cars and registration numbers. They should know if the breaking car went on and was seen anywhere or if they went off the grid. if they went off the grid, did they park in the nags car park or the adjoining garage. Did they do a plate change?

Police will have far more evidence and that is why I am confident that they are pretty close to knowing what happened.

That's really poor and suspicious.

Poor maybe but not suspicious imho. Look at that MI6 chap in 2010, he was missing a week before anyone bothered to check he was ok. People just get in with their lives. It really depends on the employer procedures and the management.

It is more suspicious that none of her friends alerted anyone until SC did

Yes I read this and, annoyingly, am unable to find the quotation to support it. I think it may have been her mother during one of her interviews with the press who said that the laying out of the dye products on the loo seat (by police for purposes of photography, according to Mrs L) gave a false impression of importance to something which was fairly innocuous.

Was that the one who allegedly put himself in the suitcase?

Yes and some friends seen her house everyday, but didn’t think it strange they hadn’t seen CL? Thought when they weren’t socialising together, they’d be texting each other?

But as a special services operative you are often in positions of being off the grid for time and your not "missed" its part of the territory that you and your loved ones live with day in day out

Some of those friends have become media stars

Yes his name escapes me

I quite agree but this guy had a desk job analysing data

Gareth Wyn Williams was his name @Mrs Marple
Information is the new world currency.
So what did he know?
Not sure what an SIS officer has to do with CL. That's why I often don't bother getting involved in these threads
Too much diversion.

Why????

If CL was "seeing" the significant other of a good friend and that friend had their suspicions of an affair...

CL and the significant other would certainly not meet in the local pub, far too many prying eyes. CL would not discuss this with other friends, as they would very much disapprove. So they meet in an area away from where people know them. The significant other leaves home saying they are going out and good friend follows, to see where they go. Once there, they see significant other with CL, good friend feels totally betrayed and that's where the plotting begins....

Perhaps good friend gets themselves a new boyfriend and ropes them in to assist? Good friend asks/calls new boyfriend to go and see if significant other is at CL's. New boyfriend cannot see from the road (curtains closed), so goes round to the back of the house and through to the alleyway. Confirming that significant other is not with CL, good friend pays a visit asking CL to dye their hair (?!). During this time good friend takes revenge (possibly using the cord of the straighteners). Afterwards good friend calls significant other, advising what they have done and (due to their narcissistic nature) stating this is all significant others fault and significant other needs to deal with the situation. Good friend knows CL's routine very well, appreciating they would have until 6am before anyone would miss CL. Significant other has many connections and calls in some favours/ uses blackmail(?!) asking for a no questions non-traceable car....

Just a theory!

It’s a very plausible theory and had thought along similar lines, but couldn’t find anything regarding hair colour of friend after CL disappearance.

Spot on
And then the significant other commits their true sign of love

Perhaps the hair colour was staged to look like Claudia had fled
This would buy the Perps time as initially police would be looking for a flight / missing person rather than a body
