Keep-it-real Like you I have to consider witness sighting seriously and I have plenty of questions I would like to ask those witnesses.
Regarding the couple seen at Melrosegate:
There is a person walking towards the university at approx 1m 51s on this video:
Last known movements of Claudia Lawrence
I always assumed it was a male but looking again at the gait and build, it could be a female in a waist length jacket. I don't believe it's CL because the hair length is too short IMO but it might account for the sighting reported at the substation which is about 5 mins earlier on that route. Police would be able to work out whether this would be possible from timings.
I am less surprised at the lack of response from the public to this sighting as it was in such a student-populated area of York; the local student population is very transient and would not necessarily tune into appeals as readily, particularly international students of which there were thousands. I guess what I am suggesting is that this could have been an 'innocent' encounter and if it was a drug deal, it is unlikely they would come forward willingly as many York Uni students have affluent parents funding their education who would not take kindly to learning that their offspring are engaging in illicit activity. IMO.
Like so much of this case we are left in limbo when we ask ourselves if the police followed through on what we would assume was a direct line of investigation regarding a possible lead.
There may be reasons certain ports were used instead of other possibly more convenient ones especially if the people transporting the vans were possibly involved in illegal activities, perhaps these ports had a more lax approach to security of boarding and unboarding goods/vehicles or there network had connections at the port.
We are really looking for a connecting timeline here, CCTV would show those vans and boarding the Ferry. CCTV would show them departing the Ferry dates and times would confirm this if the people left those vehicles while aboard the ferry its likely they would be caught on CCTV too.
From this information we could calculate if there was enough time for any person/vehicle to be involved in CL's diasappearance before continueing their onward journey.
I haven seen many holiday snaps of CL's trips to Cyprus so a full length photo of RCampbell has eluded me, if anyone has one I would like to see it I want to see if compares in anyway to the alleyman.
RC told police he was traveling between two ports in Greece when Cl disappeared .
Police would have checked that ,
Also the express article makes it clear that she was texting and communicating with both Steve and RC .
Jk would have been able to confirm Claudia detailed intentions for the Easter holiday.
She could have been planning to surprise both friends at the Island .
I think some of us ( including me ) are getting fixated with just one line of thinking same mistake the police did IMO
Far too many officers far too many reports for one person to take a decision and come to some conclusion.
How is the artificial intelligence computer coming along !? If only !
