Speaking at the Old Bailey on Monday, Taxi driver Urfan Sharif, 42, denied killing his 10-year-old daughter by beating her.

Sharif said he returned from work to find Sara "collapsed" after his wife, Beinash Batool, called him home on the evening of August 8 last year.

He was cross-examined in court by Batool’s barrister, having previously accused his wife of abusing Sara, who is her stepdaughter.

Caroline Carberry KC asked him: “You are a lying, manipulative and controlling man, aren’t you?”, to which he responded: “No, I am not.”

The barrister detailed Sharif’s history of alleged domestic violence, which the defendant denied.

Sharif was shown photographic and video evidence of bruises and marks on Sara, but he denied knowing about them.

After seeing one, he replied: “I didn’t pay that much attention to what was going on.”

The defendant was also shown a photograph of Sara with a “badly” cut fringe and a scratch on her nose.

He pointed to the dock and said: “I did not cause it, somebody who caused it (is) sitting there.

Ms Carberry also accused Sharif of being an “angry” drinker and a gambler - which he denied.

They said on 5 News at 5 that three separate ex female partners of Urfan have made allegations of domestic abuse against him which I'd missed. I only knew about Olga.

I wonder if the three are Olga, Beinash and a new one. Because if Beinash isn't in that count of three as an ex, it means FOUR known women declaring him abusive!

BB is not an ex - well not legally anyway. Possibly another Pakistani ex partner ?

Quite how he managed to get custody of the children with all these allegations swirling around is one of the main things the inevitable Public Enquiry will be looking at, together with the actions of Social Services. This is from the Daily Mail article above -

Monday November 11

The cross examination of Urfan Sharif, the father of Sara Sharif, by Mrs Caryoln Carberry, the barrister representing Sharif’s wife and Sara’s stepmother, Beinash Batool, commenced today.

Sara always wore a hijab in the house, Sharif said, and he never saw marks to her neck. Mrs Carberry played a video from June 9, 2023, taken by Batool, which shows Sara in the garden playing with her siblings. Sara is not wearing a hijab and faint marks are visible on her neck.

Sharif agreed he could see the marks on Sara but denied being in the house. He agreed that Sara looks happy in the garden with Batool and her siblings.

Mrs Carberry showed the court a zoomed in image from the video, showing marks on Sara’s hands. Sharif told the jury these were a rash and he “did not pay attention”, as he was away a lot of the time.

The barrister then showed another clip from the video of Sara’s face, and asked him how he missed the faded bruises on Sara’s face, neck, hands and wrist area that would have been much more vivid prior to the video.
