Sturgis had sandwiches delivered from a sandwich delivery company - I am sure this info was confirmed....she wouldn't have to leave the office for sandwiches...I think the sandwiches can be eliminated from our enquiry. :)

Sjl car passenger door locked suggests to me “if we believe sjl was ever in the car”
(Which has never been proved) she had gone to
1 pow to collect her items
2 buy the infamous sandwiches
3 got in another car
4 gone to another nearby address
Where it was left leaves no question that was where it was dumped, or does it?
Because sjl had her purse i would assume sjl was going to get the sandwiches, did she go to somewhere to buy them? Did she get them at the same place everytime? Does mg know where she would buy them? I would guess he does as most people rotate who buys or if you like them you would say where you bought them.I know you think it is a small thing but literally “the devil is in the detail”sjl may have gone to somewhere nearby popped in used the loo , so to speak and never come out, who knows but 38 years later and has anyone ever thought about where she would have bought her sandwiches? Maybe even the pow said they would make her sandwiches and she went through to the kitchen

One thing, there seems to be a lot of differing reports of where sjl car was parked do we have one definitive placing of it are all the work colleagues stories different?

This thread is now so long ....i'm sure posters addressed this previously - but for the record Whittingstall Rd or Radipole Rd? another negotiator had use of her car that morning and he said it was parked in one or the there of these roads .....no times tho

I think Whittingstall. He wasn't a negotiator though - he was taking photographs I think.

Well, I don't know. First of all, if they had sandwiches delivered and MG was going out for lunch, why did he need sandwiches as well? Maybe MG intended to pretend to go to the lunch and instead abduct SJL. If so, he'd miss out on his lunch, so perhaps he took sandwiches along so he wouldn't feel hungry later while committing his crimes.

Another question, was it commonplace at Sturgis for someone to eat all the pies? Was MG the prime suspect behind the disappearance of all the pies? Did MG usually have a pie for lunch? If so, why sandwiches that day?

Plus let's not forget JC was a mate of JT, the pre-release hostel chef. Maybe SJL asked JC if he could get JT to make MG's sandwiches for him in the prison kitchen? What if these were kipper sandwiches left over from breakfast? SJL then goes to meet "Mr Kipper" to collect MG's sandwiches - but JC forgets them. SJL flies into a rage and kills Mr Kipper by beating him with her purse. She realises she's now in trouble, so she drives to the PoW, picks up her diary and some sandwiches for MG, drops them into the office unseen then hastily drives to 123SR and pretends to be WJ for the next 38 years. All along, when the police interviewed her, SJL was right in front of them!

This works because SJL never had to hide the kipper sandwiches, as there never were any. This is making the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

That really does not make sense if you knew sjl would maybe use the car you would know where you left it or was the investigation that slow that weeks past before they asked the questions?

Ah the passenger who looked like James Galway - this supposed witness was never found - but what I cant understand - is the taxi driver must know where he dropped him off !!! so the police could have started there ...are you suggesting Cannan could have been this taxi fare? but that wouldn't fit with the rest of the Kipper narrative ...wheres the smart suit and the bottle of champagne?

or ......How about this for an alternative twist ....the taxi driver could have made up the James Galway witness and he himself could have been SJL's killer ...wonder if he was checked out.... I cant deny that you really are investigating every possible theory no matter how unlikely they may seem :)

I thought he was dropped off at the tube and returned to pow may have had a session with cv and stayed there the night who it may have been cv’s dream to do that but jc did it on the spot and cv is implicated , i definitely think the back garden should be checked may even turn up the keys ( unlikely but you never know)

Just bought the only copy listed of the Andrew Stephen book on World of Books website. £4.95 free postage. ( £30 on ebay as West L mentioned upthread). Worth keeping an eye out on that site too if anyone is looking for a copy.

While Im here, the eyewitness account that includes the bottle of champagne.... If was linked to SJL, the champagne could be...what?

A Romantic Gesture or Gift for SJL

To Celebrate or mark a Deal or Agreement. ( House Sale/Going into Partnership/Business Agreement/A Bonus etc?)

A Gesture or Gift intended for someone other than SJL

Intended for a later Party or Event?

A Gift given to the Person earlier by someone or by SJL at the time even!?

I’m a few posts behind, but I think it would be normal for a woman to take a purse with them when popping out. You might want to buy something, your car might breakdown and you need change for a phone box. It was summer and I don’t know what she was wearing when she went missing but it could easily have been a dress with no pockets, hence her putting her purse in the door pocket of the car. I really don’t think it was because she was buying sandwiches or planning to buy anything else. It’s just something you took with you!

I believe she was wearing a grey skirt, peach blouse, a dark or black blazer and low stilettos. Women's lightweight clothing probably would not have had pockets, so she would have needed to have carried her purse in her hand. But I'm still asking myself why she didn't take her handbag. It would be very unusual for a woman to go anywhere at all without one. It seems to suggest that she wasn't intending to be gone long.
If she'd intended to go to the POW to collect her stuff, as DV suggests, she'd need something (handbag)? to carry her stuff back in.

One explanation for the lack of handbag could be that, if sjl had the keys and the details in one hand, it may be easier to carry a purse in the other separately (I used to work in an estate agency myself and one of the everyday dilemmas was whether to take a handbag as well as everything else).

Imvho, she intended to do whatever she needed to (be it viewing or personal errand) and return pretty much straight away.)

I do think it odd that she wouldn't take her handbag, but it depends what kind of bag she had. The most practical kind have a long shoulder strap so it can be worn cross-body leaving the hands free. But failing that, it would be another thing to carry in the hands.

What I understand by a "blazer" is a tailored jacket which would usually have pockets.

Absolutely, if she was intending to be away more than a VERY short period of time surely she would have taken her handbag - I think the fact she didn't take it is crucial evidence ....I could see she would just grab her purse if she was going to a shop quickly or the bank perhaps but if she was driving somewhere in her eg to POW (15 - 20 mins away..).why wouldn't she take her bag ? why would she leave it in her office with other colleagues and members of the public in and out all the time especially if her handbag contained any personal items....
