Maybe they removed the ties because they had brought them with them and they might contain forensic evidence? They may have removed them after they were killed so that they could be disposed of or destroyed?

I have to disagree. I thought that Johnathon was eloquent and extremely gracious. He noted the age gaps and went into great, loving detail about the personalities of each of his sisters and how much his parents valued them individually. I could not hope for anything as eloquent within my own family!

A thought that may be completely irrelevant but they must have been thinking of listing the house for awhile because the photos look as though they were taken in the fall before the leaves changed and flowers were still in bloom. IIRC the house had only actually been on the market for a few days.
