Found Deceased CO - Gannon Stauch, 11, Colorado Springs, Lorson Ranch, El Paso County, 27 Jan 2020 *endangered* #13

We should remember that they may have found evidence they haven't made public yet. If they found something in Douglas County they'd probably continue searching for more, and anything they may have found may not yet be enough for an arrest or public statement.

At least 4 professional volunteer SAR teams have been assisting with this search. These are all highly-trained volunteers donating hundreds of hours of their time out in the cold. One of them, Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, is comprised of high schoolers. If you're feeling helpless, consider supporting...

This is all pretty typical for a missing child case in which foul play or critical endangerment is suspected. The FBI Evidence Response Team's involvement is noteworthy. That doesn't happen on every case like this and suggests there's some challenging evidence.

I can almost guarantee they have. It's exactly the type of feature they're trained to look for and search very carefully.

I think tomorrow and Monday are going to be interesting. It seems like they've really narrowed their search down with whatever information led them there and maybe the dogs. Give them some time to warm up and get some rest. I bet we'll have some new developments by Monday.

They'll likely treat the spot they've been digging like they would a crime scene and keep a watch on it overnight if they're going to return tomorrow. I'd expect to see them back in the same area tomorrow unless they've already found what they were looking for.

Definitely possible but I'm not sure they'd put a screen up if that were the case. Also, if someone of relatively small stature tried to dispose of his remains, they may have not been able to take him much further than just off the road. Who knows at this point.

Yes, absolutely. They would be able to provide text messages and call records, usually solid location history too, at a minimum. With the wide range of apps and other services people use nowadays that remotely store user's data, LE can often get much more information from the phone company...

Palmer Lake is also small and very close-knit. Lovely place and people but still has the kind of gossipy stuff you'd expect from a smaller town.

Also, if I were looking for a relatively quick "back route" from Lorson Ranch headed north, I'd take Powers until it becomes 83 and then it's a quick hop over to 105. Eta: when I was local to the area, 83 down to Powers was my preferred route between Parker and CO Springs.

Very possible. It's common for suspects to toss such things out the window while driving. Whether it's from someone talking, surveillance or location data from tech, they seem confident that whoever is responsible for his disappearance drove on this route.

I'm trying to zoom in to read the agency name but can't. It may not be an actual ambulance. Some SAR teams and FDs use retired ambulances for mobile command posts or other purposes. Yes, they may have an ambulance stage nearby if there's hope of finding a living victim, but the way a table is...

I just want to note that El Paso County Search and Rescue and Douglas County Search and Rescue are providing extensive assistance, and they are all highly-trained volunteers. These volunteers are donating weeks of their time and spend their own money on their gear. I have enormous faith in them...

A staging area is where all the teams meet up before going out on search assignments. It is essentially a parking lot, because it's where all the stuff is gathered before going out into the field. Just a main meeting point. It is not the location being searched, but has to be within a reasonable...

Anything involving water is a good likelihood. They do a lot of underwater work. That'd apply to iced over stuff too. Ravines could also present the possibility of high-angle technical work - using ropes on cliffs, that sort of thing. I'm not sure how much of that stuff they do, and there's...

Yeah, something like that. Recently they helped find a homicide victim's remains in a landfill (possible HAZMAT,) they also helped recover victims of that boat fire in CA from the sea. They don't just work with remains, and they've handled some really diverse scenes.

Those wondering about the FBI Evidence Team - no, that's definitely not routine, even for fairly similar high-profile searches. They specialize in challenging or hazardous evidence/remains recoveries - things like arson homicides and underwater recoveries. I don't think a relatively simple...

They're probe poles designed to search for avalanche victims but commonly used by SAR teams looking for a body in the snow. They typically methodically line search with them and if they poke something that feels large enough to be a body under the snow, they dig to check.

The King Soopers grocery store mentioned in the weird Twitter comments is far on the other side of town from the family home, but it is much closer to the current search area near Palmer Lake. I think it's just someone talking out their butt, maybe mistaking Gannon for another kid. Maybe Gannon...
